What’s your post-Christmas house like?

Is the tree down? Are the kids presents still all over your living room? Are there any corners with discarded wrapping paper still in them? How are the washing/dishes piles looking?

The leftover turkey should be gone tonight, then it’s back to work on Monday for me.

Beds stripped, towels washed and dried and house orderly abd quiet.

LikeNoYeah · 27/12/2025 19:12

Tree still up. I usually take it down on New Year’s Day, but might keep it up later this year (back to work on the 5th, so maybe until 4th).

We still have our ‘Christmas table’ with (dwindling!) booze and treats laid out.

My kids are older teen/young adults now, so no piles of toys anywhere.

Our house is cleaner and tidier than usual, actually. I’d quite like to hibernate now until early March, with my nice clean house and the twinkly lights. No such luck! 😆

Gliblet · 27/12/2025 19:15

Decorations are still up, house is pretty tidy though - MIL went home today (with some snacks and leftovers), we've done some rearranging to make space for stuff, and DH did all the laundry while I read and then watched a film with DS.

Tree still up

Few gifts sprinkled around

Lots of leftovers, mostly cake/chocs

couldthisbe2501 · 27/12/2025 19:43

All presents (clothes, shoes, smellies and Lego) have been put away. We only have large Lego sets now so they come out one at a time to be built on the dining table! All Xmas decorations are still up and will be til the 5th/6th when Xmas actually ends! My house is tidy! It was tidy from
Boxing day! All rubbish has been sorted and recycled and left overs have been used! We have a freezer full of party food ready for the 29th, we’re having domino’s on NYE.

This time between Christmas and NY is my favourite time of all. No work, no where to be, lovely decorations and food and a tidy festive house!

Bryonyberries · 27/12/2025 19:47

Decorations are still up. Probably come down New Year’s Day as I’m back to work on 2nd, although as it’s only one work day they may stay up til the Sunday. Hate going back to the mundane with them still up.

Rest of the house semi sorted but we have been moving bedrooms about so a little bit more chaotic. Easier to do while we are all at home.

Hmmmmwineandchocs · 27/12/2025 19:48

Decorations still up and will be until 3rd. All presents got put away on Christmas Day.
House very tidy now family have gone home. Love having them but looking forward to a few days of relaxing, eating and drinking in peace without thinking i need to engage/entertain.
9yr old sad it’s over but is enjoying her presents and enjoying a school break as she’s exhausted.

CBAwithallthethings · 27/12/2025 20:07

House still has toys all over the place but some things have been sorted away. Turkey curry tonight but lots of cheese still left and crisps and chocolates still on the go.
Decorations will stay up until after new year.

BunchOfShapes · 27/12/2025 20:10

No idea how the house is, as we set off for a holiday cottage this morning. It is lovely being Somewhere Else for a bit tbh!

We left the house tidy, but the tree will need to come down when we get home next week. I took the wreath off the door when we left though

Makingpeace · 27/12/2025 20:15

Tree still up, still has a small handful of presents for my kids under it to unwrap when they aren't so overwhelmed (ages 5 and 2).
Haven't even cut the Christmas cake yet! Christmas cracker hats and cracker rubbish still everywhere. Port still in the decanter slowly to be finished. We're all still in our matching PJs at every opportunity and we ate porridge for dinner tonight. It's very much Christmas chaos here still.

Arraminta · 27/12/2025 20:25

Still Christmas here. Both trees still looking twinkly and the fridge is jam packed with Stilton. I've just added a tot of Bailey's to my coffee and I can hear DD assembling yet another cheese Smorgasbord in the kitchen.

We're hosting a Christmas party tomorrow night so house is tidy, with a recycling done, but I'm very grateful our cleaner is coming on Monday.

henlake7 · 27/12/2025 20:30

Decorations down, house tidy, Christmas food gone (mostly eaten but last few bits thrown), rubbish bagged up ready to go and presents put away.
TBH I was feeling crappy coz my diet and exercise really went to shit in December....I just needed to get things back to normal.

Pineapplewaves · 27/12/2025 20:31

The kids new toys are piled up in their rooms, they don’t want to put them away yet as they are still special. I will find homes for everything when they are back at school. We finished off the leftovers today so it’s back to normal eating tomorrow (excluding chocolate, there is chocolate everywhere!). We are hosting again on New Year’s Day so they’ll be more leftovers next weekend! The house is back to normal and I caught up with the washing before Christmas so just one load to go on tomorrow. Decorations will stay up until 12th night.

RobinTheCavewoman · 27/12/2025 20:38

Tree and lights up, plenty of cheese and snacks left, board games out, most gifts away but I have older DC.

Owlmoonstar · 27/12/2025 20:40

Clean. Spacious. A sense of 'im ready for spring' in the air. Although I'm fully aware we have dark days ahead.

I love Xmas. But I need a clean slate for NYE.

stargirl1701 · 27/12/2025 18:17

It’s not post-Christmas, OP. It literally is Christmas.

Hear! Hear!

House is gorgeous. Fire roaring, dog snoring. Fairy lights and candles. No discarded wrapping paper but a couple of piles of new books/toiletries. Fridge re-stocked for next round of visitors. New calendar ready to be written in.

God - I sound like a smug MN twat 😂

bumblingbovine49 · 27/12/2025 20:41

Tree and decorations still up, will be until 5th or 6th Jan. I don't go back to work until 7th Jan yay! So plan to enjoy tree until 6th. It only went up on 14 Dec anyway so only been up 2 weeks so far. Will have been up about 3 weeks by the time it comes down

Most of the presents have been put away now. We didn't host so not many leftovers anyway but definitely still have cheese boards and chocolate and snacks left to eat. Should all be gone by 1st Jan though

Luisaa · 27/12/2025 20:54

Tree and decorations went away today and despite how cosy it was, I now feel… organized! The tree was lovely and I love to decorate but after a few weeks of them up, I’m always keen to see in the New Year with a clean, tidy & organised home without the dread of having to get things into the loft during those first few days of the New Year.

The toy situation however… buying toy storage is top of the priority list! Fridge still needs re organising and I could do with going through a few drawers at some point as well as the shoe storage cupboard. The joys!

Tree and decs still up, half/most of all toys and presents have found a home although still some around that I need to find a place for. Looking forward to getting the tree down tbh, as much as I love it, I'm always ready to take it down after Christmas and get everything organised for the New Year, but will be leaving it up a bit longer for the kids. Food mostly gone. Whole bottle of baileys left as no-one ever drinks it so not sure why I buy it 😂

NessShaness · 27/12/2025 21:39

House is clean and tidy, tree and lights still up and will be until next weekend I think.

It feels very cosy.

HansHolbein · 27/12/2025 21:41

Tree and decorations still up. Don’t know when they will come down.

House pretty clean and tidy. Washed our bed today. Will do the kids beds tomorrow.

Would like to go for a walk tomorrow, after I’ve gone to M&S for a few things.

Got a pile of ironing staring at me…

ChopstickNovice · 28/12/2025 10:04

Decorations up. DS9's toys relatively tidy but there's two lego sets in various stages on the dining table. Parents went home yesterday afternoon. Love them but also glad they have left and taken their strange Puritan ways with them!

mumonthehill · 28/12/2025 10:09

Tree still up but guests all gone. Still seem to have lots of food! Have a bag of goodies and new books stacked up by the sofa ready to dip into over the next few days. Mine will all come down on new years day.

Snackpocket · 28/12/2025 10:13

My decorations are still up and will be up until next weekend I expect. I’ve not done much cleaning but DH is going to play golf Tuesday so think I’ll do a once over then. Got leftovers to eat today and enough chocolate to sink a ship. Going to have a day off booze as working tomorrow but still enjoying the downtime this time of year offers!
