I quite like the look of them. Might go for it next year.

It’s the Emperor’s New Clothes Christmas tree edition: instagram is telling us it looks good, so we do it?

Not for me.

Cultural appropriation is only negative if it is disrespecting a culture or downplaying hardships experienced by a culture. Otherwise it’s cultural appreciation. I don’t think christmas trees are appropriation.

I was responding to someone saying a veiled tree was Ukrainian and therefore cultural appropriation.

They're either both appropriation or appreciation.

Plus, technically, you're incorrect anyway.
Dreadlocks are considered cultural appropriation, particularly when worn by white people, primarily due to the modern context of systemic racism and the power dynamics associated with the hairstyle in Western societies.

Angel hair? I mentioned it earlier in the thread.

Yes, sorry did not see the post. It made the lights look amazing when they shone through it. Probably toxic as fuck, but I really loved how it looked.

You know, the shrouded Christmas tree trend could be the perfect vehicle to showcase your dislike of all these modern Christmas trends.

Picture it now:

Instead of an angel, an Elf on The Shelf sits atop the shrouded tree. Mummified in cobwebs like Frodo in Shelob's lair, it stares down at your Christmas visitors, frozen forever in a silent scream.

At the foot of the tree, in a coffin comprised of a Christmas Eve box, lies the lurid green corpse of a Grinch. Even in death, he smirks. He alone is in on the joke.

Some distance away, a clutch of taxidermied robins lie feet up in a patch of glitter-and-oat "reindeer food". Dead on Christmas morning, the poor things. Microplastics. They never stood a chance 😔

And so on. You could make a whole morbid tableau! A commentary on how commercialism has killed modern Christmas 😂

Couldn’t resist……..

Christmas Eve boxes and the elf can fuck off as well

My DD does the Elf for her kids, it's farcical, the Elf broke eggs on the floor one day. Toilet paper festooned the living room on another. What is this for? Ridicuous.

Oh God, what fresh Christmas hell?!

What is the point of this? Is it for people in mourning? Sorry but it’s not for me I like my pretty tree
