I quite like the look of them. Might go for it next year.

My cats would just see the veil as an extra challenge! 😄

Ahhhhh. You win! That is such a good point.

That does sound nice. I tried to find insect baubles this year because I have a DC very into entomology but didn't manage it.

Etsy have insect themed tree decorations.

Thanks! I did manage to find a really nice glittery scarob beetle (not a decoration but could easily be turned into one) but by the point I had the idea to make my own, the tree was up and no way was I doing it all twice.

Next year though. That or the veiled tree.

My cats would eat lametta. The plonkers used to try to chew the flocking off an artificial tree I had one year. Not the brightest.

I'm not saying I love it either, but I don't like it any less than I like having an xmas tree in the first place either.

Ahh, it been a few years since we had cat and I had forgotten the havoc they can unleash on a tree!

Is that you, Miss Havisham?

😂😂😂

ChillingWithMySnowmies · 27/12/2025 13:27

Hard NO from me, looks awful.

And i will physically cut a piece of my santa hat and eat it if it evet becomes a fashion/trend.

It looks like a nasty fire hazard and bloody stupid.

OctopusFriend · 27/12/2025 13:27

I think people have these ideas and post them to see who will copy!
The power of social media. Even if something looks stupid, someone will do it!

Tryagain26 · 27/12/2025 13:28

No, why?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 27/12/2025 13:28

Slightyamusedandsilly · 27/12/2025 13:09

I don't see how? It'd cost about a fiver to buy net or muslin to cover a tree?

@CaptainMyCaptain quite possible to use cotton muslin.

Edited

According to the article I found about how to do this, you would need fourteen metres of material to swathe your tree properly, so rather more than a fiver.

I want to ask - why would you do that as in, why shroud your tree (sounds like a euphemism!)

😂

From your thread title I was picturing it black-veiled. Lurking mournfully in the corner like it had wandered in from a funeral 😅

I am crying at this answer 😭😭 peak mumsnet. IS IT INSURED??!

Crinkle77 · 27/12/2025 13:31

My God its hideous and surely a fire risk?

Lavender14 · 27/12/2025 13:31

Sorry op but it just looks like cobwebs to me. I have seen a few of these but I just can't get behind it.

Is it organic? It doesn't look very biodegradable. YABVU, OP 😂

Guess I’ll see you in 12 months time on the (evidently) short “Show us your lovely, strange and unusual Christmas trees” thread then, @Slightyamusedandsilly🤝🪲

It looks like you bought it and forgot to take the wrapping off. It’s a no from me.

I got lots of images when I googled it, but all from Living Etc magazine.

For my tree, that would block the tree, rather than create a gossamer effect. But yes, I guess if you had a really big tree, it would need a lot. Mine would need maybe 3 or 4 metres.

Yeah, unless bug boy has moved on to a new craze. He has a vague interest in slugs, but I do draw the line there.
