I quite like the look of them. Might go for it next year.

Really good send up. Are you a bit of a Goth?

Was you inspired by Mortitia and Gomez from the Adams family or perhaps one of the Munsters characters.

Loved the tree!

MrsChristmasHasResigned · 28/12/2025 19:17

As a kid in the 70s we had a wodge of white fibrous material which was brought out every year - you teased it out and covered the tree with it once it was decorated and had lights on. I loved it although it probably had all kinds of problematic chemicals in - but the tree looked magical. Once Christmas was over you took all of the stuff off, and wadded it up for next year.

Angel hair? I mentioned it earlier in the thread.

Nope - can't get to the hanging chocolates. Though that might not be a bad thing, as it means they'll still be on there come Twelfth Night and I'll be taking down the decorations on my own ... 😋😁

Hahahaha!

@FlashingFairyLight I do think you have a point. But I quite like the lights twinkling through the net.

I'm really not a fan of Christmas trees but have one for the children. But did wonder about trying something new and less traditional.

If you like the look of lights twinkling through net, I found these lights on Amazon. They look great twinkling behind my light linen curtains.

Haven't read the full thread, so don't know if this has been posted. This was indeed published in Livingetc magazine.

If you google "veiled Christmas tree" then a lot more comes up than if you google "shrouded Christmas tree". Apparently it's on Tiktok and Instagram, not that it makes it any more acceptable or desirable, but OP probably didn't make it up.

When I read shrouded tree, I pictured the one in the attached pic 😁

treaconometrie · 28/12/2025 23:23

wot 😱

fetchacloth · 29/12/2025 00:17

I wouldn't cover my Christmas tree like that but it might prevent the cat trying to climb it.🙃

grapesstrawberriespleass · 29/12/2025 01:08

This is so ugly.

Calloja23 · 29/12/2025 04:46

Never heard of it or seen one before, but looking at that picture, it’s horrible! Why?

TheCheekyCyanHelper · 29/12/2025 06:22

This has to be a troll thread.

WonderingWanda · 29/12/2025 06:30

It looks ridiculous. I googled veiled tree and could only find one reference to it, an (appalling) interior designer trying to start a micro trend I also found one where someone had an entirely black tree with only black decorations. Neither idea is festive or attractive.

BunnyLake · 29/12/2025 07:51

Slightyamusedandsilly · 27/12/2025 13:14

But xmas trees themselves are German so the whole thing is cultural appropriation.

This thread is turning out a lot more interesting than I expected!

Cultural appropriation is only negative if it is disrespecting a culture or downplaying hardships experienced by a culture. Otherwise it’s cultural appreciation. I don’t think christmas trees are appropriation.

ShodAndShadySenators · 29/12/2025 09:03

I'll be honest, after spending many hours putting 2000-odd lights on my tree and tons of baubles and other decorations, I'd be crazy to then throw a veil over the whole thing. I WANT to see it clearly, why would I want to obscure it so it's all mad soft focus and indistinct? If I wanted to get that effect I could just take my glasses off and look at it in glorious myopia. Far easier in the long run.

And modern light emitting diodes do not get hot and will not generate enough heat to risk any material on the tree going up in the flames. The old filament bulbs could and did, but some of those had 3 watt bulbs. LEDs run at a fraction of the power but even if it's safe to wrap a veil around the tree, I still wouldn't do it because I really like how my tree looks!

Still, each to their own. We all pick and choose which aspects we like and ignore those we don't.

Is that you, Miss Havisham?

It does look like you're in mourning for the ghost of Christmas past...

I don't think that looks like a spider's web, more old net curtains
