What’s for Christmas Eve dinner?

I just got back with a Camembert to bake and a smorgasbord of party nibbles. Many pigs in blankets! All the cheeses and hams. Already have enough booze to open a bar.

my usual healthy diet is having a few days off…

Curious to know what everyone else is having?

Merry Christmas and hope you all have a great one 🎄🎄

We are going retro:
Prawn cocktail
Steak and cheesy mash (was going to be steak and chips but I'm not too well, so frozen mash is it)
Trifle made by husband

Easy but special

cocoromo · 24/12/2025 17:34

Lamb stew with mash for us and some chocolate log for desert!

youalright · 24/12/2025 17:38

Chinese takeaway

McDonalds, KFC or a Burger King, not decided yet! 😋

Pumpkinpiefilling · 24/12/2025 17:40

Steak, chips, peppercorn sauce and then cinnamon buns with cream cheese frosting.

Rules are you have to list the whole order 😆

NeverCouldGetTheHangOfThursdays · 24/12/2025 17:45

Chinese takeaway 😁It's become a bit of a tradition for us on Christmas Eve. This year DH is having sweet and sour chicken balls with chips and I'm having veggie chow mein with spring rolls.

patooties · 24/12/2025 17:45

Chinese - we had roasted ham, jackets, salads etc at lunch

Butthechildrentheylovethebooks · 24/12/2025 17:45

Always fajitas here on Christmas Eve.

Coffeeishot · 24/12/2025 17:46

Duck with pancakes, spring rolls chicken fried rice and mushrooms in a gravy.

Mydoghealsmyheart · 24/12/2025 17:46

Christmas dinner being eaten here this evening as DH is working tomorrow and right through the Christmas period. Mind you after spending hours today in the kitchen coaxing the turkey not to be dry, I could easily be tempted by some of the lovely meal ideas on here! Bon appetit everyone and Happy Christmas.

SushiDisco · 24/12/2025 17:48

We always have a “picky dinner” on Christmas Eve. Truffle mushroom pizza, halloumi fries, olives, salad and beetroot.

mamaduckbone · 24/12/2025 17:49

We started on the cheeses / pate / chutneys for lunch and we've got beef shin in garlic and ginger with noodles for dinner that's been in the slow cooker since 10am merrily bubbling away (which is just as well as we've been bubbling away in the pub for a couple of hours)
Happy Christmas Eve! My fave day of Christmas 🎄

Fionasapples · 24/12/2025 17:51

Pizza and garlic bread, every year! We used to get a Dominos delivery but 2 years ago it was horrible and horribly expensive so I get supermarket ones now.

FlyingApple · 24/12/2025 17:51

Husband has made chilli, tastes amazing!

Sugarcube84 · 24/12/2025 17:52

Did the Xmas ham today so we had that with homemade chips, beans and bread and butter nothing beats a homemade chip butty.

Ive tried fancy dinners over the years but everyone seems to appreciate a plain dinner with all the indulgence to follow on Xmas/Boxing Day

MilleniumMouse · 24/12/2025 17:55

Following for inspiration Grin I've got a fridge stuffed full of food and have no idea what I want.

Chippy, it’s on its way as we are absolutely shattered!

Londonmummy66 · 24/12/2025 18:00

DH is half German so we have to have a formal meal centred around fish. So we're having salmon blini to nibble on. Then dinner is a green salad with pears and a blue cheese dressing followed by salmon encroute with asparagus and tenderstem and then DD has made a pavlova.

Icequeen01 · 24/12/2025 18:04

A joint of brisket cooked in red wine, stock, onions and carrots which makes a lovely gravy. It’s been slowly cooking in the slow cooker for 6 hours now. I will serve it with creamy mash, brocolli and green beans. We are waiting for DS to finish work so hopefully we will eat around 7pm unless he suddenly has an emergency at work 🤞🤞🤞

Inthewrongtimezone · 24/12/2025 18:05

I'm busy prepping and cooking for tomorrow, so probably won't have much time to eat anything!

Nobody here this evening except me and DH, so we'll just grab a snack from the fridge.

The house is a tip (worse than usual) but as we're not here tomorrow I'm past caring. I can sort it all out on Boxing Day - or maybe next week. 😂
