We get Sainsbo. Every year l viw to change it because every year the Xmas food delivery has half of the items not available.

Whereas Dss gets Waitrose. They got it all.

I find Tesco fairly reliable. It's either Ocado or Waitrose that don't deliver around here (I can never remember which!) because we are too Out in the Sticks!

If it wasn't for the fresh fish, I'd give up on Morrisons, because I always end up with a lot of things that are out of stock, and you can't opt out of substitutions. Then I end up with some peculiar substitutions!

We just had our Ocado shop delivered, only 2 missing items and that was the sausages for pigs in blankets. Not sure I can face going out to get some.

“Blankets, anyone?” 😂

Ocado here - no subs and nothing missing.

Tesco - no crap pate but they sub with salmon pate. I noticed it has a long date so next year I will order in advance. Posh orange juice and crossaints not avaliable. Will buy posh crossaints in advance and freeze next year.

No brandy butter which is no big deal.

Waitrose order the stock to match the online orders apparently, but you can't make changes after a certain date. Other supermarkets just pack what they have on the shelves.

Waitrose is split into 2 categories - entertaining and normal.groceries. I could ammend my groceries until 9pm the night before, same as a normal shop, and i still only had 2 unavailable and 3 very reasonable substitutes. I think they just have a better infrastructure all together.

afaloren · 24/12/2025 12:41

I had Ocado this year and there were no substitutions and nothing missing. I find them very good year round.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 24/12/2025 12:48

Sainsbury’s this morning. A few subs but all made sense (sent back one thing).

vanillalattes · 24/12/2025 12:49

We got a Morrisons delivery yesterday. Everything arrived - no subs.

ImFineItsAllFine · 24/12/2025 12:51

We did Ocado for all the really critical stuff and got everything.

Bryonyberries · 24/12/2025 12:55

I got some subs but all were better than what I’d ordered!

I use Ocado, nothing missing.

Ditto. Not only was there nothing missing, they arrived bang on time and had emailed in advance to say they were aware of a problem with special offers that might mean I didn't get a multibuy discount so here was a voucher for the difference. There's a reason I've stuck with Ocado for over 20 years.

I really hope this is a typo 😁.

Can I ask why is food delivery such a big deal over there? I’m in Australia and while you can get food delivered most people just go to the shops. I’ve never heard of anything like booking spots weeks out. Is it because people don’t have cars or it’s harder to get to shops?

wandererofthekingdom · 24/12/2025 13:04

Ocado came this morning and it was all there!

HostaCentral · 24/12/2025 13:06

I got an expensive bronze organic turkey instead instead of a bog standard cheap one.

Very happy 😁

Beachhutgirl · 24/12/2025 13:25

Sainsburys did me really well, only one entirely sensible sub of Christmas food.

But I will have to face shopping after Christmas, as I ordered a cake for my Mum's post Christmas birthday, and they sent a unicorn cake instead of a floral decorated one. Looked a nice cake but I just don't think a unicorn cake works for a 96th birthday!

jamimmi · 24/12/2025 13:35

Sainsburys.on face value did well initally, then I saw the use by dates, delivered on the 23 at 630pm, rolls use by 22 dec, sausages by the 23 and all the pasta salads and coldslaw by the 24th so no use for xmas day. There was nothing.on the order about short dates like there uaually is. They have refunded but ive had to go.out today tintey and repace it all

Fedupoftheshits · 24/12/2025 13:35

I use Ocado and year after year have been very impressed with no missing items or acceptable subs which have been rare.

My top tip is to save your usual Christmas order as a ‘list’ then when you book your slot have it in your trolley so the main stuff is confirmed back in October when the slots are released. I only add a few bits about a week before cut off. I think this is what helps with lack of missing items etc.

I also get it delivered morning of the 23rd to allow time to go to the shops should anything not arrive.

Power26 · 24/12/2025 13:59

I did Ocado/M&S and Sainsbury’s and had zero substitutions. No missing items from Ocado & Sainsbury’s just missed what I didn’t allow substitutions for, which was just an apple crumble. So overall, £200+ spent and got exactly what I wanted, can’t complain

Cherrybomb00 · 24/12/2025 14:31

Ocado, no missing items and one sub which was m&s branded sprouts for Ocado branded sprouts.

bugalugs45 · 24/12/2025 14:57

My Waitrose arrived this morning with 4 subs, nothing critical thankfully , but low fat custard when ordefed
normal , low fat is banned in our house in December , and the only gravy we have is bisto best which they subbed for normal bisto ( sent back & got my mums spare jar lol )

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 24/12/2025 15:06

Ocado is getting very expensive, but I have to hand it to them, they very rarely have things missing a. We spent £350+ on our Christmas shop, and the only thing substituted was one of the cheeses.

It’s the weather and the fact that it’s winter. Where I am we get about seven hours of daylight, most of it grey and damp, with the occasional horizontal rain. I’m not going to add to the misery of that by driving to packed carparks and shops in the dark for food that can come right to my back door at a time that suits me.

Aweekoffwork · 24/12/2025 15:28

Morrisons couldn’t supply the turkey initially, they didn’t even substitute it 😳 but two hours later a delivery man turned up with one under his arm saying there had been a computer glitch and no-one got their turkeys and he was out delivering a load 😄

MakeMineAMilkyTea · 24/12/2025 16:05

Ocado last night, 1 sub on some crisps but alternative was acceptable. What wasn’t acceptable was the multi buy offers not applied for the 3rd week in a row. Popped to m&s this morning to pick up my food order and also grab any bits missing from last nights delivery (didn’t need to thankfully as it was heaving at 7am).
