We get Sainsbo. Every year l viw to change it because every year the Xmas food delivery has half of the items not available.

Whereas Dss gets Waitrose. They got it all.

“Blankets, anyone?” 😂

When we were growing up we always had chipolatas and bacon rolls separately - pigs in blankets were deemed a bit common 🤣 I think my parents have now accepted that pigs in blankets are an acceptable accompaniment for turkey, though as they generally have beef wellington nowadays it’s all a bit academic ☺️

HouseWithASeaView · 24/12/2025 16:19

We had our Sainsburys delivery yesterday. A couple of sensible substitutions. A couple of larger items when I’d ordered a smaller one. The shellfish was marked as short dated but is 25th which is when we’ll be eating it so I told the driver it was fine but he refunded it anyway. So I’ve done better than I should have done! Neighbours had a similar experience.

JBJ · 24/12/2025 16:37

I did Morrisons for the first time this year. No streaky bacon, but substituted with 30 small pigs in blankets, no parsnips at all and no fresh rosemary or garlic. Got the email early this morning, so nipped to my local co-op first thing and grabbed the missing items. It’s better than Asda a few years ago - no veg, potatoes, cheese, crackers, stuffing… basically my whole shop!

Nothing missing from my Ocado order luckily. Find them very good for items actually being there.

RandomUsernameHere · 24/12/2025 17:10

Tesco here and everything was available apart from one item out of a very big shop.

LemaxObsessive · 24/12/2025 17:42

I got Ocado and only one sub which wasn’t Christmas related. However, last year Morrisons turned up at 6:15pm Christmas Eve with one bag containing brandy butter and a cucumber. Everything else was missing! A £180 order! I swear to goodness that was it, I was fuming and had to run to the supermarket before they closed at 7pm, with my child already in her pyjamas and try do a full Christmas shop from bare shelves getting funny looks for having a kid in pjs!

If you want to be sure (as close as there is such a thing) order all your non perishables for delivery in early December, do a Christmas to order for key items like the turkey to collect on 23rd (they are pre ordered) and book a 22nd December for perishables giving you the chance to collect with the turkey any missing bits

This is the way. Although I forgot to order mincemeat with the non perishables and both Tesco and Waitrose had sold out! I have half a jar from last year so not a disaster just fewer mince pies than normal

LemaxObsessive · 24/12/2025 17:47

Yes like PP said, do your full order in October when you book the slot and do NOT edit your order any time in December at all, that way your items are pretty much reserved. Luckily with Ocado you can ‘add to order’ via the app without having to edit the full order.

ItsChristmasEve · 24/12/2025 17:50

We use Tescos and Morrisons. Both delivered yesterday and only one substitution from each, a dog toy and some crisps. I think we’ve only ever had a couple of substitutions and nothing that’s been that important. We always have late afternoon and early evening slots.

I use Ocado, nothing missing.

Me too, all as ordered.

Icantfindanewname · 24/12/2025 17:56

Ocado too. Delivered Mon evening, had been booked on date the slots were released. Edited up to 23:30 Saturday night. Everything turned up, only casualty was a squished pack of breadcakes. Good dates on everything.

GiveMeWordGames · 24/12/2025 17:58

Ocado delivery yesterday and Waitrose click and collect on Monday for Turkey and other bits.

Waitrose all present and correct. Ocado subbed posher gravy for gravy and my large pork pie became a smaller one but the two missing items were bizarrely ordinary things. Milk and tomatoes. I mean, huh? They sell a bajillion versions of those, surely a sub could have been made.

Can I ask why is food delivery such a big deal over there? I’m in Australia and while you can get food delivered most people just go to the shops. I’ve never heard of anything like booking spots weeks out. Is it because people don’t have cars or it’s harder to get to shops?

It’s crazy, did my food shop yesterday at 5pm, shop was almost empty and bought everything I needed.

AllTheChatsAboutTea · 24/12/2025 18:17

I had 12 subs in my Tesco Click and Collect at 7am this morning including smoked gammon joint swapped for unsmoked, cheese crackers swapped for Ritz, and frozen sausage rolls swapped for cheese and onion rolls. I went into the store and managed to find the items I’d actually ordered, which makes me question how thoroughly the pickers are looking for the correct items.

Thankfully the “Christmas reserve” items - the turkey, cheese tower, salmon en croute - were all there.

Same here. Ocado have good stock control so if you can order it, it nearly always comes.

Olderbutt · 24/12/2025 18:50

Tesco delivery 5pm Tuesday, I couldn't get a morning slot as I can't be bothered to get up extra early in November to nab one. All there, same as almost every week. Ive heard that Asda are the worst. I can't do ' big' shops in store easily, duets disability

13RidgmontRoad · 24/12/2025 19:53

I am in the supermarkets non-stop in the run-up to Christmas, because of work, but when we rely on a delivery I always book it with a day's leeway - 22nd/23rd for xmas - on the assumption that something will be out of stock or I'll have forgotten to add something.

Neodymium · 24/12/2025 20:21

AuldWeegie · 24/12/2025 15:25

It’s the weather and the fact that it’s winter. Where I am we get about seven hours of daylight, most of it grey and damp, with the occasional horizontal rain. I’m not going to add to the misery of that by driving to packed carparks and shops in the dark for food that can come right to my back door at a time that suits me.

Edited

I get that. But having to decide exactly what you want and have it booked in October like some people are saying. I didn’t even know what I was planning to have in October. Seems like more trouble then just going to the shops.

I guess I am lucky that in my area we have so many supermarkets and all have plenty of parking. The only time we almost didn’t get a park was at Costco on the day before Xmas eve.

So get Waitrose. We do. It’s bloody brilliant.
Sainsbury’s isn’t cheap before anyone says it’s so much less expensive.

But Waitrose is more expensive than Sainsbury though.

My only sub from Sainsbury was 7 Up for Spite! I was pleased with that…

tonyhawks23 · 24/12/2025 20:45

Our Sainsbury's was spot on.thanks Sainsbury's.

wendy1288 · 24/12/2025 21:21

Ocado here too, nothing missing and some seriously yummy m&s products included too

Dr13Hadley · 24/12/2025 21:29

We only had one sub which was pink alcohol free fizz (Nozeco) for the normal one. Not a problem. Oh and a bag of fancy crisps was missing but I’m sure my arteries will appreciate that so no biggy.

edited to add that was from Ocado.

Waitrose orders are picked in store so same risks as the other supermarkets. Ocado and Morrisons run from the same depots so, in theory, stock control should be better as no shoppers also picking from the same stock. .

However, Ocado substitute fairly regularly in my experience and don't price match if the substitute is more expensive like Tesco and Sainsbury's do. Hence my £12 raspberries which were a substitute for standard £3 ones yesterday went back to the depot. I'm not sure what was worth twelve quid - for that price I'd want them to make the pavlova they're going in...🤣

I NEVER have substitutions with Ocado and have used them for 13 years.

Also, they DO price match, with Tesco I think. I get price match vouchers most weeks.
