Too beautiful

Does everyone else fine their children just too beautiful for words? I’m not so idiotic that I think my kids are actually genuinely extraordinarily beautiful… so I assume other people feel this way… do you? Mine are 2 and 4 if that matters.

My son gets lots of compliments on his blonde curls, and a man on a train told me he had "beautiful, beautiful, beautiful eyes". He's often mistaken for a girl, however many trucks or dinosaurs there are on his clothes.

So I don't think I'm entirely maternally deluded in thinking he's a very beautiful boy indeed! But then I come from a family of good-lookers.

For balance, I'm a scruff who inherited slightly wonky versions of the genes, but my son inherited the best of them. He looks like my brother, who looks like Bradley Cooper.

Oh and me, my sister, and my niblings were all child models.

My son was ugly until he turned 7 months, then he was stunning.
My grandson is always stunning 😍

Interesting! It doesn’t sound like they are young… did you feel the same when they were young?

I've always been able to be objective about them.

I used to call DD the goblin princess as she wasn't a pretty baby!
The boys were super cute but I wouldn't say beautiful! There was a time when DD was a toddler and she was beautiful though.

mondaytosunday · 20/12/2025 01:32

No. My kids are attractive and I love them dearly but they aren’t beautiful. Few are.

Skyflyinghigh · 20/12/2025 14:46

My obstetrician said there is only one beautiful baby in the world and every mother has it

blankcanvas3 · 20/12/2025 15:05

People stop me to tell me how beautiful DD1 is. She’s very classically pretty, blonde curls, blue eyes etc and I think how confident she is helps too because she’s always smiling to strangers and chatting to them. I thought DS was the cutest baby in the entire world but now I look back I wince at photos 😂 He’s a very good looking 17 year old though. DD2 is extremely cute but I wouldn’t say she’s absolutely beautiful objectively.

faffadoodledo · 20/12/2025 17:15

My daughter has gotten more beautiful as she has aged. Not a classically beautiful small child - tho cheeky and fun. But now is breathtaking (in my eyes). Shes 27 and has looked after her skin which is like alabaster with her dark, quiet eyes. Trouble is, she doesn’t see her own natural beauty amid a world of fakery.
my son is like a handsome Viking. He’d look great modelling rugged Finisterre clothing!
they both take my breath away even now.

Emmz1510 · 20/12/2025 17:29

Yep!

I’m asking about how other people feel about their children, in order to to establish if the way I feel about my children is usual. Fortunately n everyone else (aside from you) has understood and responded appropriately.

I did understand, sweetheart and I have responded appropriately. Sorry you don't seem to understand that. Maybe you're blinded by your "beautiful" children .

Hollybobs1 · 20/12/2025 18:36

Did I write this? 😂

Manthide · 20/12/2025 20:07

I have face blindness and sometimes don't even recognise my own dc. A few years ago I was at a party with dd3 and a young boy came into the venue. I thought what a handsome young man! Exdh followed and I realised it was my ds!

Floundering66 · 20/12/2025 21:13

Yes - I think my little boy is the most beautiful child I’ve ever seen. I used to find lots of children cute but since having him none compare 😂 I could stare at him all day!

My whole post is about how I am probably blinded by my beautiful children… that’s the whole point 😂

This is absolutely wild!
Interested to know if you can make pictures in your mind? Aphantasia?

No I can't! It does cause me a lot of anxiety though. Dd3 once went into her ballet class with her hair up and came out with it down and for a few moments I wondered who was calling me mummy. Another time a mother asked me to pick up her dd from school in an emergency and I thought I might take the wrong one (luckily she knew me). Exdh still thinks I ignored him on purpose when he waited at a bus stop for me and I walked past him!

Usernamenotav · 21/12/2025 22:42

Yes! My kids are beyond beautiful. But everyone says that so now I'm not sure if they actually are. But I genuinely think they are 😂

Lararoft · 21/12/2025 22:49

I’m 49 and my lovely dad still thinks I’m beautiful.. if a bit fat lol.
Im really not beautiful imo.

Zigazagbox · 22/12/2025 00:54

I think my kids are gorgeous but I also look back at photos of dh and I when we were babies or when we were small children and I think we were both gorgeous children too.

We grew into slightly awkward teenagers and decent looking adults (dh would be conventionally attractive if he was taller I think and I would say I’m on the good end of average) so it will be interesting to see whether they grow into or out of their looks

Zigazagbox · 22/12/2025 00:58

I’m also interested to see if I will have the same overwhelming’ oh wow, they are gorgeous’ feeling about my potential future grandchildren as I do about my children.

Farticus101 · 22/12/2025 06:08

Yes, I feel like my child is the most beautiful child I've ever seen. They also get a lot of attention out and about (sometimes uncomfortably so)

HOWEVER, I am aware that most mothers feel exactly the same about their own children! I do believe it is innate in mothers regardless of the child's actual appearance.

Oooooo - maybe my boys will get even more beauty’s with age! (Not sure that’s possible though 😂)
