Too beautiful

Does everyone else fine their children just too beautiful for words? I’m not so idiotic that I think my kids are actually genuinely extraordinarily beautiful… so I assume other people feel this way… do you? Mine are 2 and 4 if that matters.

Yes, about MINE. Not about anyone else’s children though!

Well yeah, that’s what I was getting at!

Did you actually read my post? Literally the whole premise is that my kids are presumably only beautiful in my eyes.

Of course I did. You claim to not be idiotic enough to realise that this isn't the case, yet you decided to make a whole thread about it 🤔

I’m asking about how other people feel about their children, in order to to establish if the way I feel about my children is usual. Fortunately n everyone else (aside from you) has understood and responded appropriately.

I remember, long before I had my DC, a friend of ours had a baby. She assured us that he was the most beautiful baby who ever lived and that everyone at the hospital where he was delivered all said the same. When we got to meet him he was, well, very strange looking. He had a really big chin and giant head. I don’t believe any baby is ugly, but if you were going to say it about any baby, it would probably be him. Gorgeous eyes and the best little character, but not the prettiest. He’s 25 now and a nice looking chap. When I had my eldest a few years later, I looked at him and thought no other baby came close. When a few of the nurses commented on how ‘gorgeous’ he was, I started to get really paranoid that my baby was a fright and they were overcompensating by saying how lovely he was! Looking back, I think he was rather lovely. I think both my children, now 17 annd 13, are unusually blessed in the looks department, but I definitely think most people feel that way about their children. And it doesn’t matter whether they really are or aren’t. My SIL said of her second child, that she was stunningly beautiful and when I said I thought the same about my eldest (youngest wasn’t born then) she looked at me with surprise and pity as if I was deluded🤣

My auntie used to have a saying "Every crow thinks her is the blackest".

toobeautifulforwords · 19/12/2025 16:36

The weird thing is, when I look at old photos of them I find them less beautiful. It’s like their present state is just overwhelmingly beautiful to me (which I guess is evolutionarily advantageous so not odd really)

Yes! Then you look back at the newborn pics! 😨

I used to feel sorry for the other mums at the baby groups as my baby was so much more beautiful than theirs 🙈😂

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 19/12/2025 19:20

When my youngest child was born I felt sad for her because she would never be as beautiful as her older sister. Surprise, surprise she was!

They are in their thirties now and still beautiful to me but the younger one is properly, objectively, head turningly stunning. The weird thing is she is the absolute image of me at the same age and I don't think I was at all pretty.

Perception is weird.

Tulipsriver · 19/12/2025 19:24

Yes, I find my 3 and 5 year olds extraordinarily beautiful and always have done.

In my hormonal state after birth I even asked the midwives why my baby had come out so perfect when most newborns look like old men.... looking back at photos, he was just as squished and odd looking as all other newborns!

When I was pregnant over 40 years ago I was told by an elderly lady "There's one beautiful baby in the world, and every mothers got it" it's always stuck with me, and of course, my blond haired, blue eyed boy was 'it'.

I used to feel like this about my DC, now they are grown up I can see they are just above average looking. So now I’m like it with my DCat who actually is the most handsome cat in the world.

I'm not a parent but interested to know if thinking your own offspring are beautiful carries on throughout adulthood? Do older parents think their 30/40/50 something offspring are beautiful?

This is part of the reason I started the thread to be honest (and why i include their ages) they are cute squidgy toddlers at the moment so potentially easy to find beautiful!
