I haven’t seen a Christmas cake thread yet this year - can I see pics of all your lovely cakes? Here’s mine!

aw that looks great ! Well done

Thanks flapjackfairy . That picture wasn't mine but the one on the recipe.

But mine looks just as good, even if I do say so myself 😁.

It has amused my dh how surprised and proud I am of this cake. I am a fairly proficient cook/baker and used to do fancy birthday cakes for the all the kids but for some reason a fruit cake covered in marzipan and icing and called a Christmas cake seemed complicated and scary.

I’m a bit late as only just seen this thread. I’ve made a couple of cakes for others as I don’t like fruit cake.
I made a Tunis Cake for my family.

That Tunis cake is gorgeous, and it looks absolutely delicious as well! I’ve never made one, but I may have a go next year.

making the cake is one of my absolutely favourite bits of christmas. You can make the cake on a dingy autumn day and feel.the approach of the festive season. It always cheers me up.
And as you now know it is not hard at all.

You cakes are all gorgeous! Love yours OP.
They are all so cute.

I don't like Christmas cake and I don't think any of my family likes it, so we've never had a cake like that.
We usually just have some desserts from M&S.

I've loved looking at everyone's on this thread though.

I’m not that bothered these days about the marzipan and icing so mine are naked! ‘Fed’ them a couple of times with brandy though.
The recipe I use was given to me nearly 50 years ago by a woman I worked with who offered to make my wedding cake as a gift, and her daughter decorated it. I’ve used that recipe ever since.
I now make 2 square ones, then cut into 4 smaller squares and gift them to 4 friends, my hairdresser and this year my elderly next door neighbour, leaving half of one for me!

I look on people who can do things like this like I look at astronauts - a mixture of awe and wonder 😅

This is my favourite easy fruit cake recipe

Is that from an old St Michael’s cookbook? I recognise the font 😂

That’s how I like it best with a hunk of vintage cheddar!

First time I’ve made a Christmas cake, my MIL has made and given us one for over 20 years. But she broke her wrist a few weeks ago. So here’s my attempt.

longtompot · 24/12/2025 10:57

@toodleloohey I made a very similar looking one a few years ago. I got the idea from the good housekeeping website and I think it was one my favourite ways to decorate it.
Sadly no cake for us this year as I messed mine up and have turned it into the pudding. I am making a pecan pie for the first time. Not sure it will be as nice with a slice of strong cheddar, but will see.

toodleloohey · 24/12/2025 11:28

@longtompotnow a Christmas cake pudding sounds incredible 😋
