I haven’t seen a Christmas cake thread yet this year - can I see pics of all your lovely cakes? Here’s mine!

having seen these i am too embarrassed to post mine. It is a typical snowscene with a few plastic decs on top. v reminiscent of my childhood .

Me too, mine's even more basic. Rough royal icing with some gold sprinkles on it is my limit this year.

These cakes are amazing, well done!

Oh please do post, I love the traditionally decorated cakes!

ok you asked for it. I have got a frill to hide the big landslide of icing at the front but it is not dry yet

It’s gorgeous and so evocative…I love the traditional ones. I love swooshed royal icing too, but decided on fondant this year for a change

@sprigatito @kitchenplans
Aw thanks
I have never had the courage to try anything different but seeing these lovely efforts I might just brave it next year.

I am impressed with all of these. Love love love the penguins especially. Mine is dull - traditional.

Shoxfordian · 21/12/2025 07:14

Here's mine, I didn't make the sugar decorations myself because I'm not that clever and the patchwork icing isn't really a style choice, it's a ran out of icing choice but from a distance, or in dim lighting, its cute 😂

aw that looks amazing!

I have only ever made one Christmas cake and unfortunately it was a bit dry... Despite being liberally doused with brandy. I think it looked OK though - I'm not very good at decorating but I was quite pleased.

Very classy, using different shades of green really brings the wreath to life.

These are all wonderful. You are all so talented!

Shoxfordian · 21/12/2025 11:40

Ah thank you - its also the Mary berry cake underneath but with the fruit soaked in a bottle of brandy for 4 days first 😀

Breathmiller · 21/12/2025 11:47

Oh these are all gorgeous. I have Christmas Cake envy.

I am gluten free and dairy free (but eat eggs). I had planned, as I do every year to make my own but didn't get time. I usually can buy a (admittedly crap) free from one in the shops which does me as I'm the only one that likes it. But no shops are doing them this year. So, I am Christmas Cakeless and sad.

I was thinking of making a mini one to myself anyway. Anyone got any great recipes for a last minute Christmas Cake? I know its supposed to be done ages ago and fed with brandy but I'd rather have a last minute fruit cake with marzipan and icing than nothing.

I can adapt to gf and dairy free from a normal recipe.

Shoxfordian · 21/12/2025 12:45

This is my favourite easy fruit cake recipe

@Shoxfordian . Thanks so much. That looks doable.

xmasstress12 · 21/12/2025 13:31

@Shoxfordian is that an old m&s cookbook?

Shoxfordian · 21/12/2025 13:36

@xmasstress12 I'm not sure, its one I used to make with my Mum, its an ancient cookbook

Poorly3yrold · 21/12/2025 13:36

First time making one so be gentle! But they were dairy free and gluten free!

I was going to make one I saw on instagram with a bottle of Baileys. Has anyone made it?

the cakes on this thread are incredible!

xmasstress12 · 21/12/2025 13:38

@Shoxfordian the font & style looks very familiar to ones I stole off my mum!

andIsaid · 21/12/2025 14:08

Gosh, you are all marvelous.

Those cakes make me smile - I am awash with lovely memories.

A big part of Christmas in my youth was visiting relatives and friends - there was always a cake on the sideboard!

In fact, you could tell how many visitors had been through by the amount of cake gone. 😁

I may have to start having a cake here - it is something I abandoned a long time ago.

But - I could never make what you lot have made. Beautiful one and all.
