I haven’t seen a Christmas cake thread yet this year - can I see pics of all your lovely cakes? Here’s mine!

How on earth do you cut such a work of art?.
Absolutely amazing OP.

First time making one so be gentle! But they were dairy free and gluten free!

wow they are brilliant !

sprigatito · 22/12/2025 20:41

We should definitely revisit this thread once the cakes are cut, with pics and reviews of the insides. I’m so looking forward to a slice, it had better be good!

No photo of mine, but it's another royal icing, old fashioned cake, with my old childhood plastic reindeer, tree and a couple of random animals which I have never been able to identify. It's gluten free, contains half a bottle of brandy, and appears to weigh a tonne.

SpuytenDuyvil · 22/12/2025 20:49

This is a Martha Stewart recipe we made a few years back. We used marzipan on the outside rather than buttercream because I love it and we painted it with thinned out cocoa powder. Look at the hilarious toadstools DH made

@flapjackfairy the post box and robin ❤️ so cute, it looks fantastic

TwinklyRoseTurtle · 22/12/2025 20:52

Lovely cake OP, very traditional, reminds me of a 90’s cartoon ☺️

Gliblet · 22/12/2025 20:56

I can't stand fondant icing (and feel terrible about throwing it away) so I go old school 😁 We do have a very traditional old fashioned Santa decoration but we also have a Warhammer figure DH painted up, so this year's cake is being guarded by Father Orkmas

Oh these are all gorgeous. I have Christmas Cake envy.

I am gluten free and dairy free (but eat eggs). I had planned, as I do every year to make my own but didn't get time. I usually can buy a (admittedly crap) free from one in the shops which does me as I'm the only one that likes it. But no shops are doing them this year. So, I am Christmas Cakeless and sad.

I was thinking of making a mini one to myself anyway. Anyone got any great recipes for a last minute Christmas Cake? I know its supposed to be done ages ago and fed with brandy but I'd rather have a last minute fruit cake with marzipan and icing than nothing.

I can adapt to gf and dairy free from a normal recipe.

I had half a bag of presoaked mixed fruit leftover when I did our cake so I made one of these to take to work and it's bloody amazing, easily moist enough to cope with switching to GF flour. If you swapped the caster sugar for all brown sugar it would have more of a Christmas cake feel but it's a lovely recipe without that too.

@Gliblet I detest fondant too. Love a traditional snowy peak cake like yours.
Icing mine tomorrow.

LumpyandBumps · 22/12/2025 21:33

I’m a bit late as only just seen this thread. I’ve made a couple of cakes for others as I don’t like fruit cake.
I made a Tunis Cake for my family.

Just been decorating 2 cakes with my grandkids age 15 and 12. They had a bit of help with the fondant which I laid over the cake for them to smooth down. Otherwise they're all their own work and designs. It was definitely a rather messy morning, but great fun.

Oh OP, I absolutely love your cake! It's adorable. The way you've given Santa a big round belly under the blanket is so perfect. You are very talented!

I hope you enjoy eating it OP, please do update us once you've had a taste.

Rehab4rightmove · 22/12/2025 22:14

Best Christmas thread yet!

Well done everyone, so much talent!

Breathmiller · 22/12/2025 22:15

I was inspired by you all and bought the ingredients today and made this one https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/make-mature-christmas-cake

Half the amount and subbed for gf and df but its out of the oven and looks so good.

Going to marzipan and (fondant) ice it tomorrow or Wednesday.

I am so chuffed. My first ever.

Feeding a Christmas cake with alcohol

Classic Christmas cake

Bake this festive fruit cake in advance of Christmas and feed it regularly with rum, brandy or whisky to build the flavour and keep it moist

I only bought white fondant icing and can't be bothered being too fancy with the decoration si am not going out to buy colouring. Any suggestions for a simple white fondant decoration? I thought of stars

Thank you, but I just used a holly leaf stamp, and the tree is just holly leaves piled up! So easy.

I was going to make one I saw on instagram with a bottle of Baileys. Has anyone made it?

the cakes on this thread are incredible!

I know the video you mean, I did the alternative with pure orange juice, three ingredients, just fruit, juice and flour but made them in a muffin tin and they were delicious. I don't think they keep like a traditional cake but very easy to make and are lovely.
