Beautiful. They must be so cold.

Well it doesn't seem to stop them barking and yelping at all hours of the night...

BestIsWest · 05/01/2026 16:42

We’ve got foxes round here too. I could hear a vixen screeching last night and they are often in the back gardens. The smell is driving one of the dogs mad at the moment, he wants to be on patrol outside every evening.

It wasn't until it snowed I was aware that our place is clearly on a fox patrol route. Although I have seen a fox on our lawn, and walk underneath my study. The best one was returning from shopping (so mid afternoon) and as I reverse the car onto the drive a fox casually sauntered down the road, in the middle, with such an attitude I swear it said "So what ?" as it did so.

We had foxes lurking around the alley that led into a playing field where I grew up in London.

Foxes have clearly been reading up on "How to Evolve". Although it wasn't until recently I heard urban otters are a thing too 😮

A couple of years ago, someone driving in Moseley managed to film a fox that had caught a snake, at night.

PandoraSocks · 05/01/2026 17:03

Hopefully it is too cold for them to start shagging, Jane. OMG, the noise they make 😱

You don't have to tell me. It's quite distressing. Nature red in tooth and claw ...

I knew I wasn't imagining it

"Makes you proud to be British" as Churchill once said.

They've got to keep warm, somehow!

SerendipityJane · 05/01/2026 18:11

Am I odd in longing to imagine wolves as well (or would it be instead of) foxes in the snow ?

I'd happily sign up for that (also prefer wolves to dogs, again weird).

Well I suppose it's one way to keep warm!

As we have no snow, this is an old photo from the hill behind my house when we took the dc sledging.

We had a little sprinkle of snow. Supposed to be back at work today but have been up all night with a poorly cat ☹️ so had to get to the vets this morning with him. Luckily my workplace are very understanding as I would have been beyond exhausted having pulled an all nighter and been really worried leaving him as he really isn’t feeling well.

DuncinToffee · 05/01/2026 19:34

No snow at ours but we could enjoy the snowy landscape in the full sunshine being stuck on the M6.

I had a fox run out in front of me in the city last week at 10am!!! Brave little bugger he was! In fact there’s loads just wandering around the city brazenly 🤣

I hear them in my town at night in my road but I live right next to a train track and there’s usually loads living in the woodland around there.

BIWI · 05/01/2026 20:26

Foxes here have learnt how to get into our food waste bins. Had to rush out just now, as we heard ours being knocked over. We’d put a couple of roof tiles on top to weigh it down, but the fox has learnt how to push them off!

Talking of age as we were, I wasn't altogether surprised by the age of the people who were cyber bullying Brigitte Macron.

An age gap almost exactly the same as between Mr and the current Mrs Trump, or between Mr and the current Mrs Johnson.

Piggywaspushed · 05/01/2026 22:13

I'm talking about the age of the perpetrators?

cardibach · 05/01/2026 22:45

Hope your cat feels better soon @ThatbloodyRoblox
just in from band rehearsal. It’s pretty chilly and icy again.

LlttledrummergirI · 05/01/2026 22:51

Can I repeat Cardibachs sentiments. I hope your cat recovers quickly. Flowers

BIWI · 05/01/2026 23:00

Sorry to hear about poorly cat @ThatbloodyRoblox - all good wishes for a swift recovery

PandoraSocks · 06/01/2026 08:10

Happy epiphany all!

@ThatbloodyRoblox I hope your cat is OK.
