Thankyou cardi thats a powerful piece and I hope it touches people around the nation.

PandoraSocks · 24/12/2025 09:21

Yuliia is an absolute treasure. Thanks for sharing that @cardibach

BIWI · 24/12/2025 09:40

What a great piece of writing. (And message, of course).

Happy Christmas everyone. Flowers

Yulia can certainly write. Fair cheered me up when I found it (a friend shared it). Agree with that, too @Evenstar

DuncinToffee · 24/12/2025 10:32

I am preparing slow cooked lamb for tonight and off to the shop for some last bit and bobs later.

We drove up to MIL and the roads were fine.

DD went to Liverpool centre yesterday and sh e said it was very busy with queues outside quite a few shops.

Sun is out

I’m just having breakfast then I’ll start on some dinner prep for tomorrow - the mackerel pate without which it isn’t Christmas, and wrapping the pigs in their blankets (can’t buy ready made as they always use smoked bacon of which I am not a fan). Might also make the sausage meat stuffing. Bit short of space in the fridge but I can do Jenga I think to get Tupperware boxes in.

DuncinToffee · 24/12/2025 11:07

I don't think I have ever eaten mackerel pate

This is a recipe from an old M&S cookbook - probably from the 80s. Old school. My DD loves it (so do I) and somehow it’s become a Christmas must have!

SerendipityJane · 24/12/2025 11:13

MN Slow cooker chicken for Xmas and the annual "wtf are DBs up to" around visiting.

Merry Christmas to all - the piece from Yulia is why even if you don't buy into the woo, there's a lot to be said for the Xian idea of being nice to each other.

LlttledrummergirI · 24/12/2025 11:22

We are prepping here. Dh has done the meats, dd is doing the sausage rolls, chocolate log, brownies and sausage rolls, so all I'm doing later is the gluten free and vegetarian options.

You would be surprised how often temp staff have professor in their title for entry level jobs.

I love mackerel pate as well.

One Christmas Eve we made the mistake of frying Cranston kippers for lunch and the smell lingered on until Boxing Day.

Lovely writing from Yuliia Bond. I follow her on FB. She’s a star in the making.

As half expected a call from DS, his girlfriend is recovering from food poisoning so not well enough to travel to her family so is coming here instead. Don’t mind at all but I need to find veggie alternatives for stuffing, gravy etc so this fulfils the requirement for DH and DD to go out and leave me in peace for an hour.

cardibach · 24/12/2025 12:15

Pate, pigs in blankets and sausage eat stuffing prepped. Christmas is a go.

PickAChew · 24/12/2025 12:44

Mountain ofsalad and bready products bought, this morning. M&S was fairly quiet but, according to the chatter at the bus stop, Sainsburys was chaos.

Lovely words by Yulia.

itsgettingweird · 24/12/2025 13:52

Just been to crematorium it’s so sad yet beautiful this time of year.

Then to Sainburys on the way home as I forgot to get squash in my food shop or when I went to Tesco yesterday for trifles and cream!

Surprisingly quiet and DS also stung me for some My Kipling frosted French fancies 🤣🎄

Went to see Muppet Christmas Carol in the cinema with DS and wrapped presents. Everything is very low key this year (planned) so not an enormous amount of wrapping at all. Food prep begins tomorrow morning but there too we are keeping it low key - there's only the three of us.

itsgettingweird · 24/12/2025 18:37

No food prep here as go to my dad for Xmas lunch with my siblings, DS, nephew and SIL.

just ds and I in the morning which is lovely and we will be having crumpets for breakfast and then I think he’ll spend the evening with his friend as his mum died a few weeks ago and her funeral isn’t until January.

I will be in my PJs watching call the midwife Xmas special!

Cheguevarahamster · 24/12/2025 18:41

Merry Christmas all. 🤶🎅🌲All prepped for tomorrow. It's very low key as only 4 of us. Taking it easy tomorrow. Glass of wine in hand and looking forward to my bed as I've done 19k steps today. 😀

BIWI · 24/12/2025 19:04

Pretty much all prepped for tomorrow - just have the potatoes and parsnips to peel/roast, and then assemble the wellingtons.

Steak, chips and salad for DH and I tonight. DS1 is working and DS2 is out.

Enjoying my birthday Champagne! (back from August Grin)

BIossomtoes · 24/12/2025 19:24

Just eaten sausage and mash. Very quiet Christmas here, celebrating the success of Mr B’s surgery - they called him with the news yesterday - then it’s 16 of us on Monday. Hopefully we’ll survive!

Notonthestairs · 24/12/2025 19:40

My food order came - no subs! Wrapping finally done. Just waiting for lasagna to finish.
Really fancy a glass of fizz now I’ve seen yours BIWI.

We’ll be going to bed late - waiting for the kids to fall asleep so we can bring the presents downstairs. Heaven knows why we still tiptoe around - they both know that Santa doesn’t exist! Old habits I suppose.

Happy Christmas! 🎄
