I got the sock eye line caught Alaskan smoked salmon slices from Waitrose plus a great cheese board, the Irwin's potato bread and the soda wheaten. And a delightful and expensive ice-cream. Christmas is sorted.

My main shop was Aldi.

cardibach · 22/12/2025 19:26

I have done the last shop I am doing. If we don’t have it now, we aren’t eating or drinking it.

Piggywaspushed · 22/12/2025 19:37

I forgot to get Cranberry Sauce.

BIossomtoes · 22/12/2025 19:43

There’s still time @Piggywaspushed I bought Christmas Pudding ice cream today. I’m going to have trouble keeping my hands off it until Thursday.

just back from Waitrose with potato bread and the wheaten soda as well! You can take the girl out of Ireland !!

PandoraSocks · 22/12/2025 21:08

I want Christmas pudding ice-cream. It's not fair! 😡

Notonthestairs · 22/12/2025 21:14

I don't eat ice cream. Any flavour.
(Also wont touch pears or melon but I think thats less odd)

In order to inject a bit of peril in to food planning I booked my food delivery for Christmas Eve afternoon.

Fully expect to be driving to M&S (or local garage) five minutes before closing with a list of things that were subbed.

BIWI · 22/12/2025 21:21

All shopping done here. Aldi was surprisingly quiet when I went at lunchtime - loads of spaces in the car park. But Sainsbury’s was rammed.

You’d think the shops were closed for weeks!

Made my Yorkshire Puddings this evening, now in the freezer, and the two sauces for the Sticky Toffee Pudding, which is also in the freezer. So not really much more to do now, except on the actual day.

I thought I was being daring getting everything delivered tomorrow!

pointythings · 22/12/2025 21:27

We did our last shop in Aldi today. Got everything we need except cupcake cases in the right size (not the teeny tiny ones). Getting those in Sainsburys in town tomorrow.

DD made fabulous tomato soup and flatbreads for dinner - base of leftover tomato and basil from where she works, with added veg, lasagna and some minced beef.

cardibach · 22/12/2025 21:27

😱 @Notonthestairs
I can’t do much of any prep until some stuff comes out of the fridge… o room for prepped cheesecake for eg. Christmas Day is going to be busy…

Notonthestairs · 22/12/2025 21:33

Really regretting my choices. 😂
Checked my online trolley and realised I had forgotten potatoes! Still not like they are crucial or anything! (I did manage to add them to the order minutes before it ended)

It's not Christmas without them both!

BestIsWest · 22/12/2025 21:43

We've evolved a Christmas tradition where I ‘forget’ something essential and send DH and DC out for it on Christmas Eve because I’m too ‘busy prepping food’ to go myself. Once they’ve gone I crack open the chocs, open the wine and put on Muppet Christmas Carol.

I want the cheesecake mentioned up thread.

LlttledrummergirI · 22/12/2025 21:46

We do that as well, except it's usually 3 trips...

placemats · 22/12/2025 22:32

Chris Rea has died. He lived a long life despite his multiple health issues. Driving home for Christmas was a song that means a lot to me. x

cardibach · 22/12/2025 22:34

I saw that @placemats. Very sad news.

Notonthestairs · 22/12/2025 22:37

My mum played his songs on rotation. I had a little listen whilst I made dinner tonight. I had forgotten quite a few of them. A very talented (and seemingly very decent) gent.

PickAChew · 22/12/2025 23:59

I hadn't realised he was a Smoggie but I can hear it in his singing, now I know.

Back in the days when i used to like Christmas I used to make Christmas cake ice-cream. It always went down well.

More on this shocking case here. It's no surprise that he was in possession of CSA images on his devices. Much support for Ms Young.

Philip Young is standing in an office wearing a blue shirt and smiling.
