Enjoy your playing this afternoon @cardibach. I’ve said before how envious I am of people who can sing or play. I can do neither. My resolution for next year is to start learning an instrument. I’d like it to be the trumpet but DH has vetoed that. Can’t think why.
It’s not wet here for once and I’m over the lurgy so might venture out later. There’s carols, a choir, a brass band, Santa and Mari Lwyd in the park in the next village.

dontcallmelen · 21/12/2025 12:57

Totally relate & understand Cardi it’s the cold & greyness that gets to me I hate the feeling of being bundled up in clothing my hands & feet are constantly freezing even indoors have to give myself a good talking to make myself go out otherwise I would happily spend December January & February in bed I feel for you, some solstice flowers for those who are having a bit of a tough time.

At least February has only 28 days in 2026 and there's usually a warm spell. I walked around the Lost Gardens of Heligan in mid February many years ago with no coat and it was glorious.

DuncinToffee · 21/12/2025 14:13

Thanks Blossom, I enjoyed that

Even better to see one of the related articles that Andrew hates Coldplay, couldn't agree more Smile

Empathy is no more a luxury than oxygen and we cannot go on without it, no matter what the market says, or what the haters predict. It won’t be technology that saves the world, but friendship, an instinct for betterment that works both ways. Without it, there isn’t enough money in the world to make life tolerable.

That is really lovely and very befitting of the season, I think. Thanks for sharing @BIossomtoes ❤️

I agree. Also having friends who are younger and older than you is important as well.

I hate winter too although I can (just about) deal with cold, bright days better than grey days when the rain is just relentless. The worst period for me is between the clocks going back at the end of October and the shortest day.

From today I can see ahead and know that the worst of the darkness is over. I'll start sowing seeds in January and February and whilst I know there will still be awful weather to be had during those months, I find that I can see the promise of things to come by watching my little seedlings grow. (Having said all that, I still think winter hibernation would be a good idea).

Happy Winter Solstice.

I saw this on FB. "The Light, Winter Solstice" by Lizzie Spikes.

hopefully I’ll catch up at some point!

Hope everyone is well?

Edited

Oooilove a Mari Lwyd. Would be shit at the battle and lose my beer though.

This is a common view. Wish it was m8ne. I hate No ember and December as much as you do. Sadly, the time after the solstice is worse for me. I onky start to feel ok in about mid April.

Went to a wonderful candlelight carol service tonight with a silver band, so pleased to take DH out for an outing

A nice antidote to the pervasive commercialisation of Christmas 😁

Excellent news. Animals produced for human consumption and profit should have a decent life and death, no one should be eating distressed animal flesh.

Hen cages and pig farrowing crates to be banned under animal welfare plans

The government says its animal welfare strategy will bring "the biggest reforms in a generation".

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2025/dec/22/what-happened-next-led-by-donkeys-trump-epstein-windsor-castle

Some time in the middle of the night, when the activists were in the cells of Maidenhead police station, officers came in and arrested them again, this time for public nuisance, having decided that was more likely to succeed in court. When they came to be questioned, the only officers available were from the child protection squad – and the irony of child protection officers questioning Led By Donkeys over the paedophile Jeffrey Epstein because all the regular police were busy protecting Donald Trump … well, it was striking.

What happened next: the night Led By Donkeys projected Trump and Epstein on to Windsor Castle

The art activists made headlines during the US president’s state visit when they shocked the waiting media with a short documentary – and were quickly arrested

Reform and Conservatives are throwing a hissy fit over the new EHRC chair asking people to stop demonising immigrants.

It's the season of goodwill

I got my Asda order this morning. I don’t usually order online but being away I decided I couldn’t face the supermarket!

i got 4 things unavailable but had already clicked no substitutions.

One was pork for pulling, 2 cheeses and GF crackers.

Nipped to Aldi (down the road) to get these items and my prescription from the pharmacy.

Order arrives.

I have a whole pork leg!!!! Re checked the bill and not been charged for it - I’m a bit worried someone somewhere is missing their pork?!

so o will be doing roast pork for NYE!!!
