TV programs you gave up on

I’ve tried to rewatch them many times, but I’ve still never been able to finish

for me it’s

Greys Anatomy
Lost

Then there are ones like Stranger Things that I just couldn’t get into even though it has so much hype around it.

I gave up on Call the Midwife after they let the sickly-saintly doctor character dominate the show! (Wasn’t the actor who plays the doctor married to the writer or director or something?) Somewhat ironic and disappointing they let this happen in a programme that is predominately meant to be about pioneering women in a patriarchal society!

I’m a bit like @VenusStarr in that I do need something to really get me interested early on. I don’t have the patience for long drawn out things or for anything that heads into conspiracy theory territory….so I don’t even try with a lot of stuff and I’m sure sometimes that will be my loss. I do get really disappointed when something that I think I am going to like and I do commit to ends up being a disappointment.

Finding Alice started really well, seemed really intriguing then just got weird and completely unbelievable. As for The Gold…usually I could watch Hugh Bonneville wash dishes and find it fulfilling but it was such a yawn!

RenoDakota · 15/12/2025 07:21

Race Across The World. Used to enjoy it but couldn't be arsed this time because of the fake jeopardy and the sob stories.

Better Call Saul. Couldn't find the love for it I had for Breaking Bad.

Lost
Homeland
Better call Saul
Peaky Blinders
Dexter, new blood (and any of the newer Dexter series)
Nobody wants this
Firefly lane
Virgin River
Sopranos
Greys anatomy
6 feet under
Sabrina (Netflix newer series)
The old man
Interview with the vampire series
Rabbit hole
Dopesick
Mind hunter (?)
Ripper street

There's loads more, can't remember what they're called. If it doesn't get me early on, I'm afraid I don't commit.

All of these…thanks, you saved me typing this out 😂👌🏻

Chafing · 15/12/2025 07:32

There are lots of series, US ones especially, that start out great and decline. I have only watched the first series of Homeland, which was fab, and the one where a hapless guy became president after a bombing killed all better qualified candidates and turned out to be great...

I couldn't get in to Succession either.

Onearmedscissor · 15/12/2025 07:35

The Bear

I watched 4 episodes but everyone mumbled so much that I had no idea what was going on

DinoLil · 15/12/2025 07:40

Game of Thrones.

Game of yawns more like!

redblock · 15/12/2025 07:42

Not sure if it counts but I gave up on the soaps years ago. I used to always watch corrie, emmerdale and eastenders but it’s been 4 or 5 years since I gave up on all of them! I realised I was spending a lot of time per week watching tv that I actually didn’t care about and all the storylines became silly or just depressing.

ThisJadeBear · 15/12/2025 08:00

Succession - keep being told by DH to have another go as it’s addictive.
Killing Eve - first season was amazing and I loved the cast. It was ridiculous as it moved along so I gave up.
I also agree with @redblock about soaps. I stopped watching them over lockdown when they shut down filming. Started again recently and gave up again - young girls being prostituted, a young man with Down’s being used as slave labour, a lovely character with autism being used as a drugs mule, county lines, domestic abuse, murders.
And apparently they are doing a mashup of Corrie and Emmerdale - why?
By the way I think it’s wonderful that soaps are using more representation on screen but I think it’s really sad that the characters aren’t involved in something more positive. I am disabled myself and it’s great that the soaps recognise that.
But watching vulnerable people being exploited is not entertainment. And for anyone who watches EE - Zoe and Jean!!! I’m not interested in Zoe and I wish Jean would take her sausage surprise and bog off to Brazil!
(Rant over 😂)

I gave up on coronation street..I watched it up untill ..I think about 2000... But just got fed up with it
Have thought about trying again ,but have no idea who everyone is now .
I remember fizz and Tyrones daughter hope was being difficult
And fizz was chasing after a teacher ..but I stopped watching much after that .
Has it improved,is it worth watching again

It was far better then. Yep, and that daughter has created havoc.

JamesClyman · 15/12/2025 12:02

The Witchfinder - honestly the worst TV show I have ever seen.
Peaky Blinders - just could not get into it.
Call the Midwife - a fine cast wasted IMO.

Sadcafe · 15/12/2025 12:04

So many, Peaky Blinders, Lost, Yellowstone, Traitors( not technically a series), Trigger point, Walking dead, it goes on and on

It looked like she would ..but no idea what happened since .
Is it worth me starting to watch again

Noooo
Not call the midwife
That's my second favourite show after EE
Did you actually watch it from the start and follow the episodes in order

Candleabra · 15/12/2025 06:52

Pretty much anything that goes on longer than 3 series. Or one in some cases. I hate the way you never get a satisfying resolution to anything now ad they’re always just leaving it open in case the next series gets commissioned.

Yes, this. True for TV series, books, comics. So rare for them to be willing to say ' that's all, the story is done.'
The Good Place managed it, but I'm struggling to think of much else on TV recently that has ended because the story ended not because it wasn't renewed, or was renewed when it didn't need to be.

theproudgeek · 15/12/2025 13:05

Good Omens - loved season one. Just didn't care about season two, felt unnecessary and only watched half of it

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 15/12/2025 13:18

Westworld. Loved the first couple of seasons, but it just got too caught up in its own cleverness and complexity and - literally - lost the plot.

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 15/12/2025 13:23

Oh, just remembered another one - Temple, with Mark Strong. It was fine until his appalling whingebag daughter came into it. I found her so bloody irritating that I lost interest in the whole thing. (As an aside, she was almost as irritating in Alien: Earth. It seems to be her default acting mode.)

Netcurtainnelly · 15/12/2025 13:42

The Apprentice
Some ITV Dramas.
Game of Wool.
Question Time.

VeryQuaintIrene · 15/12/2025 13:48

Killing Eve - remarkably overrated, IMO.

We're giving The West Wing another go - living in the US right now, it's an interesting contrast...

Tillow4ever · 15/12/2025 14:06

Oh I love Grey’s - have rewatched it multiple times now!

It’s rare I give up on a series I enjoyed at the start, as I like to follow it through. However these just didn’t grab me after a while:

The Blacklist
NCIS (a couple of seasons after Abby left was the last I saw)
Fire Country

I saw bits of GoT but that didn’t grab me at all.

MinnieCauldwell · 15/12/2025 14:11

The Last of Us, from brilliant to shit in 2 seasons

FieryA · 15/12/2025 14:46

White Lotus
You
Emily in Paris
Riverdale
How to get away with murder
Nobody wants this

Totally agree. I don't feel Bella Ramsey can carry the whole show on her own. There's a gap where Pedro is missing.
