TV programs you gave up on

I’ve tried to rewatch them many times, but I’ve still never been able to finish

for me it’s

Greys Anatomy
Lost

Then there are ones like Stranger Things that I just couldn’t get into even though it has so much hype around it.

Succession - thought I'd love it but didn't, gave up after 2 episodes.

MotherTuckinGenius · 14/12/2025 21:42

I watched these series religiously but for some reason couldn’t be bothered with the last season or two

killing Eve
Handmaids Tale
Happy Valley
Hotel Portofino

Nomnomnew · 14/12/2025 21:43

Handmaids tale - too bleak
The Boys - agree, weird and also I don’t like gore and it was constant jumpscare gore.

I’ll get hate for this but The Bear… really enjoyed the first two series but I couldn’t deal with the constant arguing and shouting and super intense scenes, just majorly set me on edge all the time!

Lots of the high profile American dramas on Netflix to be honest, fall asleep generally.

McChubble · 14/12/2025 21:45

I recently stopped watching The Beast in Me. I find Clare Dane’s’ character characterisation really stressful!

I also couldn’t get into Breaking Bad, Yellowstone or Succession which everyone else seems to love

powershowerforanhour · 14/12/2025 21:47

I loved the X files at the start when it was David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson vs the monster of the week. As it went on and became more about the meandering never ending convoluted thing about black oil and the shadowy government bad guys plotting it just got dull and I couldn't be arsed to keep up so I quit watching.

ItLooksLikeAFingernail · 14/12/2025 21:47

I liked Virgin River when I binged on the first series but found the last one unbearable. The strip tease made me cringe so bad I think my organs actually turned upside down.

ThatGladTiger · 14/12/2025 21:49

For those of you who have given up on Grey’s Anatomy, it’s worth battling through the rubbish seasons. I’ve really loved the last few! It’s back :)

ArwenUndomniel · 14/12/2025 21:57

I gave up on Handmaid's Tale when it became more than 50% Elisabeth Moss glaring into the camera. Somewhere around series 3, I think. And numerous Channel 5 dramas that are shown over the course of a week - I usually get halfway through episode 2 and then can't be arsed/don't care what happens. I really ought to stop thinking "Ooh, that looks interesting" when I see the trailers. I'm much more ruthless about giving up on things I'm not enjoying than I used to be, though - most dramas get one episode to grab my attention and if they fail they're going in the bin!

I don't have Sky or Prime so there are lots of big US dramas that I never got into, but amongst the ones on Netflix that I haven't bothered with are Wednesday and that Ed Gein thingy.

MiddleChildX · 14/12/2025 22:16

So so many. Too many to list. I start loads of things and rarely stick with them. Even excellent programmes like Ozark. I just lose interest. The exception to this is Breaking Bad. An exquisite piece of television. Nothing will ever come close.

RedRiverShore5 · 14/12/2025 22:25

I didn't bother with Wednesday or Stranger Things as they seemed to be aimed at young teens, likewise Squid Games which was for a bit older teens.

blackheartsgirl · 14/12/2025 22:57

i gave up on

Lost
Breaking bad
Greys anatomy after season 8
Suits
Gossip girl
Handmaids tale after season one
Wednesday.
Sabrina
Yellowstone, god that was shite
Manifest
Heartland. Then I really wanted to rewatch it and all the earlier seasons are missing from Netflix now.

I agree! S16-19 were absolutely dire. But since the latest interns have come in and been given storylines instead of it being the Meredith show it’s been great.

firstofallimadelight · 15/12/2025 06:29

A few itv dramas including the recent one with Jodie whittikar and Suranne Jones and that tv show summer water. Also The Dome, Killing Eve and Peaky Blinders.

PermanentTemporary · 15/12/2025 06:29

Tbh I would last 5 mins with most of them if it weren’t for DP, he lives a series. Sometimes I’m grateful.

Managed about 2.5 series of Breaking Bad and just got so miserable I stopped. It took most of the first series to get good as well.

ladyamy · 15/12/2025 06:32

Orange is the new black after they had that heist

Offmybloodybulbs · 15/12/2025 06:45

Succession and Breaking Bad
gave up early on - not for me. I think maybe I want someone to root for. But I loved better call Saul. So I found a 8 best episodes of BB and watched them for context.

Handmaids tale just repetitive and depressing. Loved the first couple of seasons but it didn't move on.

Not feeling an urge to watch latest only murders in building.

Whatanoddthingtosay · 15/12/2025 06:45

The Walking Dead - found it repetitive and dull, first 2-3 seasons were good though.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina - loved the first season, then it seemed to be mostly Sabrina shouting about defeating evil. When her friends started a band I was out.
Heroes - won’t bother explaining that one!

I finished all fifteen seasons of Supernatural but in hindsight should have stopped around season 7. Loved the first five, brilliant TV. Later seasons would still have one or two brilliant episodes but the rest were a bit meh. And the ending with Sam’s wig! Haha

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 15/12/2025 06:47

2 episodes and out for:

line of fire
killing eve
riot girls
the gold
Wednesday

Brendahollowayjustlookwhatyouhavedone · 15/12/2025 06:48

Benidorm after season 2 just become unwatchable..the roller skating tranny 🤯utter drivel.

Dolamroth · 15/12/2025 06:49

Succession, Peaky Blinders, House of Guinness, Absentia.

ThroughTheRedDoor · 15/12/2025 06:51

Billions.

The last season or maybe 2 by now of the handmaid's tale.

The last 3 seasons of greys.

Stranger things.

I try and do the 3 episode rule. Didn't manage 3 episodes of stranger things.

Candleabra · 15/12/2025 06:52

Pretty much anything that goes on longer than 3 series. Or one in some cases. I hate the way you never get a satisfying resolution to anything now ad they’re always just leaving it open in case the next series gets commissioned.

Latenightreader · 15/12/2025 06:55

This has made me realise that I never finished the first series of Only Murders in the Building. I enjoyed the episodes, but didn't have any curiosity about the plot.

I was hooked on the first couple of series of Homeland and then completely lost interest.

Andor - a friend raves about it but I'm a couple of episodes from the end of S1 and have never sat down to finish it.

Restlesslimbs54 · 15/12/2025 07:04

Nourishinghandcream · 14/12/2025 19:41

Downton Abbey - watched series one but no more.
Call The Midwife - managed the first two series of this.
Sister Boniface Mysteries - gave up after a few minutes of series one episode one. Shame as we love Father Brown.

Funnily enough I gave up on Father Brown as I found Mark Williams so wooden as the main character.
