Farage’s racism

I haven’t yet seen a post about this story: Twenty people allege he has a racist past. He denies it. Who’s telling the truth about Farage’s schooldays? | Nigel Farage | The Guardian

Farage no longer categorically denies these incidents, and is now trying to fudge things by saying he didn’t mean any harm and it was a long time ago - presumably because he knows it is true and realises that 20 separate people saying it means only the truly deluded wouldn’t believe he was a racist.

But what I am interested in is does this actually assist his election chances? We already know that many of his supporters are racists - does it actually work for him that this blatant racism from him shores up their support? Are they secretly (or perhaps not so secretly in some cases) pleased?

And what do those of you who are Reform supporters but believe yourself not be racist think? Does it make you change your mind about him or Reform?

Twenty people allege he has a racist past. He denies it. Who’s telling the truth about Farage’s schooldays?

Reform UK’s leader refuses to answer questions about his abusive behaviour, claiming there’s ‘no evidence’. We talk to victims and witnesses

Does it matter what he was like as a child?

Maybe not so much if he had actually apologised for his views and said he had changed since then.

Instead he has said he wasn't racist in a hurtful way.

DuncinToffee · 25/11/2025 14:57

Farage cited Enoch Powell as his political hero in an interview in Total Politics magazine in 2008.

He wasn't a child then.

Educate myself in lies?

I would happily have read their news 10 years ago, they have only themselves to blame for nobody having any interest in what they say, they made themselves unbelievable.

I found this quite interesting maybe you should educate yourself?

What is find interesting is the whole culture appropriation/ trans race thing of a global minority, it's worth giving thought to.

Educate yourself as in find out of something is correct rather than assuming its not, with an ironic level of inbuilt bias..

SeaAndStars · 25/11/2025 15:00

I am the same age as Farage. The kids I went to school with had relations who had fought in a war against fascists, some of them never came back.. The holocaust was in touching distance memory wise. The papers were reporting on war crimes trials in horrifying detail.

I honestly thought in my youth that antisemitism, racism and the kind of hate that had started the war were over. The thought that it would continue was unimaginable. The kids at my school (council estate comp) genuinely thought humanity had learned its lesson. I didn't worry about antisemitism or racism because I though nobody would be that stupid again..

Yet there was Farage, back then, bullying, antisemitist, racist.
Not like he was doing it decades later having forgotten.
But doing it back then in the shadow of the holocaust.

it is in him. It's the measure of him. He is hate, division, dangerous.

He's not denying it.

DuncinToffee · 25/11/2025 15:00

Documents unearthed by The Telegraph show that Mr Farage asked Mr Powell for his support to win a by-election in 1994 and Ukip officials made repeated attempts to enlist his support.

Teanbiscuits33 · 25/11/2025 15:03

People trying to excuse his behaviour because he was young - well that’s a bit besides the point because it’s not as if he can claim to have realised the error of his ways and matured since then. He was a racist piece of shit then and he’s a racist piece of shit now. It figures. He was squirming in that interview 🤣

SeaAndStars · 25/11/2025 15:05

I was walking on a beach on a sunny day last week with my friend who is brown.
A white man coming towards us with his dog. He pointed at a boat out in the bay and said to my friend, "Is that the one you came in on?"

She and her parents were born in London. She's worked all her life in the NHS.

It still makes me rage to think about it.
This is the world Farage is making.

Yet I am told to look at news sources that splice speeches and not wonder if that has been done to Ferage.

There are consequences when the left tell lies, just like there was for the boy who cried wolf and after the child shouted that the Emperor(medic in the Darlington Nurse changing room) has no clothes on, (just holes in his underpants).

It does not surprise me in the least. As a Black woman I’ve heard it all before. It’s depressing.

HRTQueen · 25/11/2025 15:26

I find this pointless reporting he is a racist not he could be or was he is and leading a party that is gaining support. I would rather reporting was less on him and more on how other parties can gain back support

it will make his supporters more outspoken of their support for him it won't change peoples views

he has the same appeal as Trump the more you knock him down the more his supporters will support him and the more attention he gains and the cycle continues with him gaining just more and more attention and support

How much does the BBC pay you?

You really are determined to link everything to transgender issues aren’t you?

How many looked up?

To be fair about 30 percent of white English people will have German ancestry thanks to the Anglo saxons 😅

But I suppose it got me thinking about what his family's position would have been at home on the War and Jews and what he grew up hearing to make him act like this at a young age....how many english kids knew the words to Hitler youth songs in 1980??

Yes given the age his grandparents would’ve been during the war it’s interesting his views were what they were at 18 and what they are now.
Those thoughts and views were formed somewhere, we’re all a product of our upbringing.

What I find odd is that such views were openly accepted although deemed distasteful at his school. Particularly when the war and the sacrifices of those men fighting Germany was still very much a living memory.

The BBC and Guardian can not be trusted, I believe Ferage probably told jokes, people did back then, people laughed or they didn't.

How do I know if the Guardian have made it up, when they made up men being women? That's what happens when you tell lies, people don't trust you. That's what happens when the PM can tell the media that they must remove footage of him tripping over, nothing is to be trusted.

Here it is in the Daily Mail. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15324169/Nigel-Farage-says-never-racist-intent-schoolboy.html

Nigel Farage: I was never racist 'with intent' when i was at school

The Reform UK leader directly responded to a newspaper report about his behaviour while a teenage pupil at the £64,000-a-year Dulwich College in the 1970s.

Critical thinking comes when you examine statements from different sources and different points of view and come to a decision.
I am easily able to see when the Guardian publishes something I disagree with and when there is something I agree with. If you rule out whole sources of information, you risk an echo chamber and being told what to believe.

Is there a source that you do trust implicitly, where you can get information that you do believe?

CurlewKate · 25/11/2025 15:57

I think I’d trust the Guardian or the BBC over Andrew Gold, to be honest!

The fact that people are up in arms about what someone did aged 15 or 16 shows how absolutely pathetic they are. I did and said a lot of things in the 1960s which would not be allowed now. For gods sake get a grip. The woke brigade are obsessed with racism.

Yeah it was just banter when as a young child, I was shouted at in the street and called a fucking n*er by a random man. They were only joking after all. What’s all the fuss about! People are far too woke, we need more racism in this country.

He was old enough to know better. I’m older than him and if anyone had come out with the disgusting stuff he did when I was at school they’d have been severely punished. It’s unbelievable that the Dulwich staff let him get away with it.

Uricon2 · 25/11/2025 16:19

I think Farage's German ancestors (the Schrods) came to the UK in the mid 19th century. ' Farage' itself is thought to be a name with French Huguenot roots. They were refugees, ironically enough.

Cold does not exist, it's a word we use to describe the absence of heat.

Lies are the absence of truth, they are defined by what they lack.

How can you get truth from lies, you can't get heat from cold?

Am I supposed to puzzle pieces together like a Dan Brown novel?

Am I supposed to invert all the Guardian/BBC reports?

It's not how I want to use my resources, wasting time trying to code break through their nonsense. The left should have considered this when they stared transRace/Gender - magic soil - jumping souls, manipulative sob stories.

After a certain point, it sounds like people moved from critical thinking to delusional thinking, as you have to be at this stage if you believe what the BBC says.

Interesting that some are implying-pearl clutch- that the Mail may be a reputable news source.
