I think I went through Girl Talk, Sugar(?) Or Bliss? ..Mizz, Cosmo and Smash Hits

merryhouse · 22/11/2025 18:04

Jackie, Patches, Blue Jeans, Just Seventeen (with a quarter of midget gems, which I always ate too quickly never learned)

Once I was an actual grown-up I bought the occasional Cosmo and Marie-Claire, and for several years New Woman.

I have in my head there was one called Red, but I'm not sure why...

Jackie, I was born in 69 and I loved that magazine!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and then Angel when the spin-off came along. I had a massive crush on David Boreanaz (still do) and I always thought Sarah Michelle Gellar was so beautiful.

I bought a couple of Girl Talk and Cosmo magazines but I found them to be a little pretentious for my tastes at the time.

Cor
Whizzer & Chips.

supercalifragilistic123 · 22/11/2025 18:17

I spent years buying magazines very regularly.
First it was live and kicking and smash hits mostly for the song lyrics and posters.

Then mizz, sugar and just seventeen

Before moving onto more magazine and then finally cosmo, closer and heat and the occasional NME.

I miss them now!

SydneyCarton · 22/11/2025 18:19

Twinkle when I was very young, then Smash Hits and More if I could get my hands on it. NME, Melody Maker and Select when I was a 6th form indie kid. In my 20s New Woman (loved that!), Company (I think) and Cosmo. Also Mizz and B magazine at various points.

tartyflette · 22/11/2025 18:19

Little Lulu. (Grew up in the Middle East in an Anglo-American 'company' town)
Lots of comics rather than magazines. Seem to recollect Fab as a teenager at boarding school. Also Woman's Weekly (!)

Beekman · 22/11/2025 18:22

Aside from comics, which I adored, I read Smash Hits, No1 and Just Seventeen. I think I also used to get Mizz magazine but not every week. Later I moved to Cosmopolitan, Marie Clare and then when all the cheapy magazines with the sensations stories and puzzles in came out, I read those.

My mum always used to get Eoman and Woman’s Own before they became celebrity magazines and I learned so much from them!
