Are you walking your dogs during this grotty, miserable weather?

I don't have any pets but I wouldn't blame any person or pooch for staying indoors today while it is cold and drizzly. And muddy too. This morning I've only seen one dog and that was inside a local coffee shop. Plus a rather bedraggled-looking pony that was being walked in the direction of its stable. It was wet through.

Hopefully we'll have some sunshine tomorrow 😎.

Dogs need walking regardless of the weather, so yeah…

ClaraThePigeon · 15/11/2025 12:12

Well yes but it’s nice and sunny here today.

Higglea · 15/11/2025 12:12

Yes, just back from a hour and a half. It’s just coats all round including dog in her snazzy and faintly ridiculous wax jacket. Dog still wants to walk unless it’s hail, so we go all weathers.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 15/11/2025 12:12

Yes of course… I’ve got two spaniels…
my last dog was a staffy whippet cross who would have played dead to avoid a walk in this weather though!!

madaboutpurple · 15/11/2025 12:13

I used to have a dog and a dog needs to be outside for a walk a few times a day. Mine loved puddles ,playing in the snow so they would go for a walk no matter what.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 15/11/2025 12:13

Absolutely.

Dongs are not toys, they are living sentient creatures.

Yesimmoaningaboutbenefits · 15/11/2025 12:14

Of course!

Best typo ever!!! 😂 😂

MujeresLibres · 15/11/2025 12:15

Yes of course, 3 times a day. We only stop if she doesn't want to go out, which is not very often.

chattyness · 15/11/2025 12:15

Yes we walk every day unless one of us is ill & the only time we stay in for weather is when it's stormy /very windy as don't fancy getting hit by a tree or struck by lightening

Same. We had an invigorating one on Tuesday in horizontal rain and fog up and down hills and today has been a lovely stroll and run around on the beach in the sunshine. Walks aren't optional.

Beamur · 15/11/2025 12:17

No dog at the moment, but rain or shine dogs need walking.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 15/11/2025 12:18

Apologies for bringing the thread into disrepute.

babasaclover · 15/11/2025 12:19

Does anyone else have a lazy cockerpoo? He loves a walk but tried to turn around and go home when he’s had enough. Then sleeps all afternoon to recover 😂

oh and he does not like the rain and would rather not go out in it at all

ChronicallyConfusedOnEarth · 15/11/2025 12:19

Mine gets walked in all weathers, but obviously extreme weathers like blistering heat or risk to life storms she skips a walk or the timed adjusted to account for the weather (so extra early and extra late on very hot days) but part of choosing to own a dog is knowing you have to meet their needs all year round, I got a dog knowing that it’s my responsibility to walk my dog all year round.

horseycomingforty · 15/11/2025 12:19

Just a short one. She hated every second

We used to have a staff x whippet! He didn’t love the rain but he loved his walks and as long as he had his Equafleece jumper on he was happy to go.
My mum’s chihuahua cross on the other hand will just put the brakes on.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 15/11/2025 12:20

My dog hates the rain. He won't go out unless I drag him. He goes out to pee/poo then straight back inside. We then play games inside - I hide his toys in different places and he has to find them, I drop his ball from the top of the stairs and he has to chase after it.

If he gets really bored, we go in the car to the local garden centre and walk round there. Not exactly exciting but he loves it, especially as a lot of people make a fuss of him.

AwkwardPaws27 · 15/11/2025 12:20

Yes (all at 28 weeks pregnant I wish it was optional!). Although admittedly some shorter walks (supplemented with some scentwork training indoors) on the very wettest of days.

Edited

Not a cockerpoo but my dog will stop dead once he’s decided that he’s had enough whether that’s 2 minutes in, 10 minutes or after twenty.

Zippedydodah · 15/11/2025 12:20

Yes, my two are walked regardless of the weather, unless it’s monsoon-like.
They have lightweight coats, I have waterproof clothes and wellies.
This morning we drove to the next village in fog and wandered around the lanes and passageways wherever the dogs wanted to go, for an hour or so. I had to stop ZDog2 from launching herself into the village pond 🙄, she loves mud and water unlike bigger dog.
On very rare occasions they refuse to go out in which case they have the garden and we try later.

Myfridgeiscool · 15/11/2025 12:21

Always had a collie. We walk every day.
On blistering hot days we’re out very early and very late.

TeenLifeMum · 15/11/2025 12:22

Yes, although in the height of the storm it was a shorter one. We’ve got a virus (likely Covid) so that day was a muddle through day. In the same way we don’t walk her when it’s super hot, she can survive a shorter walk for one day.
