Are you walking your dogs during this grotty, miserable weather?

I don't have any pets but I wouldn't blame any person or pooch for staying indoors today while it is cold and drizzly. And muddy too. This morning I've only seen one dog and that was inside a local coffee shop. Plus a rather bedraggled-looking pony that was being walked in the direction of its stable. It was wet through.

Hopefully we'll have some sunshine tomorrow 😎.

I've got a 13yr old lab he dosen't go for walks now but loves being out in the garden and chill in it or in back garden during the night for sometimes up to a hr even in the rain the other night

Babybaby2025 · 16/11/2025 20:36

My dogs fine with cold days. But he hates wind and rain, he tries to drag my home. He just halts and pulls back, can't say I protest much to his protest but at least I can say I tried 😂. He also does the same on hot days, on a nice bright crisp autumn or spring day he'll happily stay out for hours though. He's an aussie shepherd

We have 4 dogs. The rain was very heavy yesterday and all refused to go out. Light rain this morning and 2 wanted to go out, 2 saw the weather and jumped back on their sofa. They’ve all just been out as we’ve actually had a break in the rain.

We are willing to take them out in the rain but sometimes they just don’t want to. I can’t blame them.

lol - I’ve got two water lovers and two water refusers as well. One of my haters literally digs his heels in and refuses to move until I turn round and head in the direction of home. The water lovers are totally indifferent to the rain, no matter how fierce…

MaxandMeg · 16/11/2025 20:54

Two border collies. Yup, 4 miles round the hill every day. In Scotland so some days I go out dressed like an Atlantic trawler man. The very few days I don't do it have amber or red weather warnings but otherwise....

HelloCharming · 16/11/2025 20:57

There’ll be days where she’s not keen…this is a dog that loves glens, the sea, lakes, mud… but there are rainy days when she just can’t be arsed.

Zoec1975 · 16/11/2025 22:46

Of course, they still need a wee and poo regardless.

Many dogs will just pee and poo in the garden so they don’t need walks for that.

Mine won’t go out in foul weather - I’ll get ready and open the door and he just runs back and sits on the sofa 🤣

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 16/11/2025 22:49

Maybe, if you dont like the weather you could move to wdryer warmer climate.
Or, employ a wet weather dog walker?

SirChenjins · 16/11/2025 22:50

Mine is definitely not keen on bad weather - and if it's heavy rain he'll stand still and refuse to move. Drives me mad, especially when I've got up early to walk him and have piled on the waterproofs.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 16/11/2025 22:56

@ChronicallyConfusedOnEarth replied on my behalf.

except,
due to having small dogs ( one of which is very elderly ) they wear coats.
We have coats for spring showers, coats for heavy rain, coats to keep warm and coats to keep warm and dry.

rasnnz · 16/11/2025 23:09

Yes, dog has coat and then bath afterwards

Kickinthenostalgia · 16/11/2025 23:13

Yep… all weathers… there are a lot of people where I live that I call the weather walkers because they only come out with thier dogs at certain times of year and then act like they own the streets. I actually prefer it in the rain because I can guarantee I won’t come across any dickheads who can’t understand that my dogs in a lead for a reason and still let thier dogs who are off a lead come near her. It’s like a ghost town on the local trail during the rain.

OompaLoofah · 16/11/2025 23:20

Attempted to take the dog out for a walk. Opened the door, then the cold obvs hit her, so she took herself back inside. No amount of coaxing worked, she just went to sleep on the sofa. Who am I to argue with that 😆

Doesn’t help that she refuses to wear any type of coat, jumper etc. She’ll just about tolerate the harness, but that’s it. She’s a stubborn sod

Parkmama · 16/11/2025 23:22

Oh yes, walk the dogs whatever the weather. They don’t love the rain but we plod on regardless and stick to woodland areas for shelter. They love a towel rub and their dressing gowns once back indoors 😁

MajesticWhine · 16/11/2025 23:36

It rained hard all day on Friday and I still took mine out for 30mins. There were a few other dogs out too, although far fewer than usual. I have a decent raincoat and a hat. And the dogs got a bit of a towelling down when we got in.

I do this too and I know he hates the rain! But feel guilty as in my head digs should be walked 3 times a day. That’s what I did with my lab whatever the weather. But I still get everything in ready to go out, open the door and he’s like absolutely no way!!! Sometimes he refuses on a nice day too… we get half way down the road on a lunchtime walk and he’s like nope let’s go home if we’re not going in the car somewhere cool I’m not going. I’ll say would you like your ball instead? And we run home and play ball in the kitchen! My neighbours must think I’m weird!

HearMeOutt · 17/11/2025 06:29

Yes, of course. My dog won’t poo in the garden, for reasons best known to herself. She would make herself ill withholding if we didn’t take her for a walk. Plus she’s a springer so her energy levels are through the roof and she needs a run come rain or shine. I’m pissed off though as I had an enormous, fully waterproof dog walking coat that I paid a small fortune for and seems to have got lost in our house move.

pilates · 17/11/2025 06:32

Of course

ClassicBBQ · 17/11/2025 06:54

Border collie owner here. The walks never, ever end! He'd go absolutely bonkers staying in all day. 5 walks a day minimum for us.

hattie43 · 17/11/2025 07:44

Yes I do but avoid rain which is easy as I’m retired . Both dogs hate the rain .

crappycrapcrap · 17/11/2025 08:18

My dogs won’t consider a walk in the rain - we live in the most glorious countryside but one wouldn’t even put his paw outside. Little one would go to please my DH. Dachshunds are not built for winter.

redfairy · 17/11/2025 08:28

My 8 year old bichon will go out in any weather so yes, we'll always take her out regardless. My previous dog, a minidach however would not entertain going out if she felt a cool breeze on her nose. Funny how different dogs can be!

ElizaJ74 · 17/11/2025 16:43

I have 2 fair weather dogs that do not appreciate a cold wet walk. But we all put on our coats and spend a bit of time outside regardless of the weather

HevenlyMeS · 17/11/2025 21:50

Yes I'm still walking Beloved doggies in the cooler weather
They enjoy it more than the muggy humid weather we had earlier this year & they still need their exercise 🤗

My last dog was the same. Would not wee or pop in the garden at all.
