Princess Diana. William and Harry walking behind her coffin. And Earl Spencer’s speech

Victoria Wood. Taken far far too soon. And why wasn't she a Dame? She'd accepted an OBE in 1997 and a CBE in 2008 so it's not like she was the sort to turn down awards. Perhaps it was due but she died first...

Richard Briers and Mary Wesley. Both not so young but I still lament their loss. I simply adored their work. It turned out I was one person away from Wesley and could easily have met her and talked to her but she died before I realised the connection was so close.

Weirdly, Karen Carpenter. I cried for days on end, and I still don't know why.

Diana, Princess if Wales.

Not in a ‘missing her’ sort of way but the first sense of my own mortality and the fragility of life

My DH (police officer) had been at work during the night and was up to date with the details of the accident when he came in at 6.00.

I can remember asking ‘she won't die, will she?’

I was shocked that she did and felt very much that if she couldn't be saved, then none of us can be.

(irrational I know and very injury dependent - but she was a Princess with the best of everything, or so I thought).

Came in at 6? AM? And you asked him?

I was sat up that night (early Sunday morning) and I'm almost certain it was announced before that. Circa 5am.

Dermot Murnaghan was on ITV, and the BBC fella I cannot recall his name.

She was the most photographed woman on the planet, with a level of fame nobody can come close to nowadays due to the fractured media we now have, which made it all the more shocking when it was announced she was gone. That whole week from her death to the funeral was surreal.

Remember (selfishly) being gutted Liverpool vs Newcastle was called off that Sunday she died. Everything seemed to stop all week.

I wouldn't say I've never got over them, but the ones that make me most sad are those who I admired who died too young...

Malcolm-Jamal Warner (I'm a big fan of The Resident)

The Queen. Can't believe she's gone. The only monarch I'd known my whole life.
