Me and 13 year old DD walk part of the way to her school together. This morning the wind was blowing the wrong way and messing her hair up! I suggested she walked backwards..

a car mounted the pavement about 10 feet away from my teenage niece and went into a lamppost. Not nice but no one hurt. Today she is sitting on the sofa with a blanket going on about how she “nearly died yesterday” and demanding a Chinese takeaway.

Hotfeetcoldfeet · 09/11/2025 16:31

My daughter had a strop because I reminded her for the tenth time that she needed to do her homework but apparently she was ‘ALREADY DOING IT!!!!’ And now she is too overstimulated because of me that she can’t possibly do any more homework 😂😂

There were bones in his southern fried chicken

He's used to me deboning Chicken thighs but these were supermarket ones

Two further traumas just in: his double chocolate muffin was too chocolatey, and the apple he bit into to take the taste away turned out to be a peach.

Too chocolatey? If that doesn't prove the insanity of teenagers I don't know what does!

chipsticksmammy · 10/11/2025 11:40

It was raining and she left her jacket in her locker. She is not an 'umbrella person'.

So she walked to school holding a not waterproof jacket above her head, to save the hair. A portion of midriff is now on display. In November 😂

Giggorata · 10/11/2025 12:04

I have enjoyed this thread; it brings back memories.

One of mine used to get into a strop if I wore THAT coat to school functions.
(It was a perfectly inoffensive dark wool coat)

I knew the words to a song she's just heard so I started singing and I've now ruined the song . How could I ..I... Possibly know said song ??? And I can't sing apparently. I didn't want to reply with oh at least I know where you get you're tuneful voice from.

Reminds me of when one of mine "discovered" a band from the 70's she patiently explained that although she knows I was around in the 70's there were quite niche so I probably hadnt heard of them. Their music was amazing.

I had to tell her that yes I had in fact heard of Fleetwood Mac and I was a big fan of their music, shall we put one of my old albums on?

Ruined it for her apparently, as obviously there was no way she could listen to music her mum is a fan of as it just proves it must actually be crap. No I couldnt work out the logic of that one either.

I made chutney and the kitchen smells. 😂

Today my youngest DD is outraged that her mother is a thief.

She has a coat that is barely worn (are they ever?) so I said that as it is now too small we will send it to the local community centre that has free uniforms and coats those that cant afford them.

As she is on the spectrum she sometimes collects pebbles and plays with them in her pocket as a sort of soothing thing. Fine but the coat weighed a ton. I asked her to empty the pockets as I was sure there was some money in there too (Grandpa gives her pocket money, too much imo but hey ho). She didnt do it. Eventually said that I would do it myself but if there was any money in there I would keep it. Fine she doesnt want it anyway, worth it to stop me nagging.

So I am £25+ up on the deal! Except she saw it and is now going on about how I stole her money. I am actually going to be donating it to the same place, and told her so. Worst. Mother. Ever. I said if she could forget about £25 in her coat she obviously doesnt need it and other people do. Life lesson #324623

@PyongyangKipperbang - my DS recently asked me, very slowly in the manner of someone explaining Snapchat to a deaf 90-year-old, whether I had ever heard of a band called Iron Maiden. I was a die-hard metalhead in the 80s and 90s and he was gobsmacked when I started to reel off all the venues and festivals at which I had seen them live. He genuinely seems to think I spent my youth listening to Beethoven on the wireless by candlelight. Another time, his friend wandered into the kitchen while I was blasting Nirvana and said, adorably, 'Oh, this band used to be quite good, but they haven't done anything new for a while.'

FirstCuppa · 11/11/2025 18:40

DD was actively surprised (while watching Traitors) that we didn't have steam trains when I was younger. I did explain the slam door carriages were the same, to which she nodded sagely.

NotDarkGothicMama · 11/11/2025 20:15

DS asked why I didn't just phone someone and was astounded that I didn't have her number. I explained that we mainly communicate over FB messenger, to which he scoffed in the same manner I'd expect if I'd said we used telegrams.

Anyway, my lack of number meant he wasted 5 minutes sitting in the car while I knocked to see if she was in. He loftily informed me that he should be revising for his mock exams tomorrow, to which I scoffed in the manner of a mother who knows exactly how much time her son has been spending on Clash Royale.

😅

ITs like they think we came out of the womb fully formed as middle aged women with no knowledge or life experience at all!!

FYI, still have my Iron Maiden 7 inches!

Schoolmusing · 11/11/2025 20:44

My 12 year old was annoyed that I wouldn't let her jump the queue and go in the disabled loos. "But I AM DISABLED! I have a CHRONIC READING DISORDER!"

yes your mild dyslexia means that you have to use an accessible toilet.

BearSoFair · 11/11/2025 21:07

The door was locked 'all the way' this afternoon when he was the first to get home so he had to use both keys to get in...clearly we should have left the house unsecure all day to save him those 10 seconds!

ChaliceinWonderland · 11/11/2025 21:12

The salmon I baked for tea in the air fryer had no seasoning. Like bro, come on, fam, you are just not getting it, he said... like it was the end of the world!

Slightly hijacking here... but why is it funny if someone says 6 7?

I cant answer this because no one can. I am not joking. Google it.

When I asked DD she said "FFS Ma, dont do that!!" but I was just asking what it meant. she said that no one knows. Somehow it became a thing without ever actually being a thing.

So I googled it and.....no one knows! Its become a thing to be used in different ways but its just a thing that da kidz are saying.

When my DH was at 6th form he used to make his mum park around the corner when she dropped him off so no one would find out she was PREGNANT with his youngest siblings. The horror. Actual evidence of your parents still having sex.

I was 19, came back from holiday with my friends. One's mum decided to tell her in the airport she was pregnant, the meltdown was epic

There is no reason. Teaching maths is currently impossible.

I believe it's a meme but it's something to do with a basketballers height. My son is 13 and thinks it's hilarious aside from when me and his dad say 6.....7 in the style of the meme 🤣

Blingismything · 12/11/2025 08:48

I was driving my eldest to a ‘gath’ where the parents were having a quick drink before leaving the partygoers. I was told in no uncertain terms that I wasn’t to talk whilst there.

This reminds me when I said Good morning to my DS's friend at football and then dared to ask him a question. I was beyond embarrassing and shouldn't speak to my sons friends. It didn't matter I have known this kid for years and his mum is one of my best friends 😄

Today's drama involved the ticket on DD14's bus app. She couldn't buy it as her dad's card wasn't working, cue huge drama strop. I've told her so many times not to do it when we're in the car driving to said bus stop as signal is very poor. Lots of gnashing of teeth and wailing about not being able to get to school etc.

Arrived at bus stop, early as always. Signal miraculously restored since it's in town, ticket purchased swiftly. Drama resolved
