Me and 13 year old DD walk part of the way to her school together. This morning the wind was blowing the wrong way and messing her hair up! I suggested she walked backwards..

It was raining on the way to school this morning. DD put her coat on for once and carried her blazer. I made the mistake of pointing out her blazer (that she has to wear all day) would be soaked. She huffed and put it on under her coat, but said it makes her look ‘awful’, (it dosen’t).

They all seem to be weather related at the moment!

@Yourinmyspot
A…. Coat??? An actual coat???

What type of witchcraft do you favour?

DD hasn’t worn a coat in 5 years. We are in Scotland. Even on the days the school is threatening closure there is no coat.

TheRedBear · 05/11/2025 20:25

I have read some of these out to my 15 yo DD.

She absolutely agrees with both the Grand Designs and the mornings being too early complaints 😂

I know! It was only because they were doing this shadow theatre thing after school at the local bonfire night, will probably be it’s only outing this year.

Ds 17 has just been bashed in the nuts by some steps... And it's his birthday!

frecklejuice · 05/11/2025 21:05

DS 17 isn’t happy because dh has offered to pick him up from his girlfriends house and to let him drive home, apparently that’s just bare long and he can’t be arsed to drive!

Spider in the school shoe this morning, cue much hysterics from the 15 year old.

Tbf I would be in hysterics. That's the kind of thing that stays with you...My sympathies.

therewasafishinthepercolator · 05/11/2025 21:13

Leaves stuck to his new car. (First car, used car, new to him). I honestly thought for a moment that he might shake his fist at the wind like a cartoon.

His affront was compounded by fact insurance doesn't start until Friday. This is adding insult to injury somehow.

fromthechandelier · 05/11/2025 21:14

I love this thread! This evening's drama was that one side of DD's head got wet in the rain and ruined her hair so, since it now wasn't matching.

I too get a running commentary every day of the goings on with her bus to school. Usually stress around wanting a seat, the bus being too busy, going too slowly or people not getting out of the way for her to get off. The concept of asking people politely to let her through is massively unreasonable apparently.

Did they run up to him and shout "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" and then smash him in the nuts?!
Steps are bastards. I know H and Claire are particularly nasty.

You will all be glad to know that I work with teenagers all day. They moan about parents all day and tell me things you really wouldn’t want them to. So today I got asked if it’s normal for an old person (mum) to have sex toys in their bottom drawer.

Sounds more like they were trying to embarrass you!

She got a behaviour point for not doing her French homework, apparently her brother has the same teacher and they don’t check if he has done his homework so the red point ‘wasn’t her fault’ 🫠

My boys both claim that teachers never check girls' homework is done/ never send letters etc. if girls miss homework. They can prove this by pointing out that their sister never got one of the letters triggered by three missed homeworks in the same subject. They consider the fact that she was a perfectionist at school who only missed a homework in the rarest of situations and certainly never missed enough to trigger a letter, to be completely irrelevant...

If I had a pound for every time I pointed out the reality of a situation and heard "THAT'S NOT THE POINT!!" I would never have to work again!

When you work with teenagers nothing embarrasses you. We know all your secrets because they love to share.

She received a negative behaviour point for wearing nail varnish and had to remove it at school. Despite me pointing out several times this week that it was not allowed and she was just lucky that no one had spotted it yet.

Apparently NOT FAIR because the teacher that gave her the point was wearing nail varnish herself. Also NOT FAIR because Chloe is also wearing nail varnish but got away with it. Might be because Chloe's is a neutral taupe, not black and silver.

I remember one issue that DS had that was similar and I backed him up. It was during Covid and the students who had to be in had a more relaxed uniform code so things like nail varnish etc were ok. DS who was going through a bit of a phase at the time, wore some quite neutral nail polish and got told to take it off but the girl next to him with bright red nails did not. In end head of year agreed that yes it had happened, yes it was sexist and yes he could wear nail varnish. This therefore proved that school teachers are all arseholes, he could do what he liked and I would back him up.

No dear, its not the same as getting a bollocking for not doing homework, yes that very much IS the point and no you cant just announce that you are doing PE in your shoes because you hate your trainers......that ran for fucking days.

Pancakeflipper · 06/11/2025 18:02

I've washed one of their favourite hoodies without asking.

I plead guilty but in my defence they've been wearing it since it was bought at start of September and not been washed despite several requests made by myself of "put it in the laundry basket please"

I am washing another of their hoodies tomorrow.....

ex colleague of mine teaches dd maths, he asked her to say hi to her mum

Reminded me of a similar one with DD3. One of her teachers was someone I had grown up with and played with as a kid. She had married and changed her name and DD has her dad's surname so neither of us realised until parents evening. She said " Are you Pyongyang? Used to live on X road?!" and the penny dropped. We had a brief "Havent see you in years!" before doing the parents evening bit. Saw her later at the refreshments table and we had a chat about old friends and that kind of thing, but very much after the official parent/teacher bit.

According to DD I humiliated her in front of the WHOLE SCHOOL (at a Y9 parents evening.....) and should have ignored her teacher completely. When said that I couldnt, it was rude and she was an old friend it cut about as much ice as a soap hack saw. She sulked for days and insisted her dad go to her parents evenings after that, which I was secretly very happy about and him less so 😅

LittleGreenDuck · 06/11/2025 18:45

@PyongyangKipperbang I think the point is that my daughter's friend's polish hasn't been noticed because it's subtle, not that there's any favouritism involved. Unlike DD's which was left over from Halloween!

Keepoffmyartichokes · 06/11/2025 18:46

I wouldn't trade our car in and buy an expensive Porsche. DS 13 was made at me for an hour. Me and DH both WFH so the car is barely used, we can't afford an expensive Porsche and to be able to eat and the Porsche which is a 2 seater would be too small as there are 3 of us. These points were all irrelevant and I was the meanest Mum ever.

Oh I get that, and would be saying that same as you "If you want to get away with it, make it subtle and you probably will!" Had this with shoes too....yes you can sometimes get away with trainers but not if they are bloody Nike Air....whatever they are called with the balloon shaped heel you pillock!

ETA And skirt lengths! "Rosie doesnt wear the right length and she never gets into trouble" well thats because you cant see Rosie's fucking arse cheeks!!!

It just reminded me of DS and his nail varnish thats all.
