What will Starmer do if Huntingdon...

Stabbing turns out to be terror related or in a similar vein to incident to recent incidents that were related to immigration ? We don't know the identities yet of the perpetrators. But the fact the Home Secretary is brought in to comment in tabloids and the discussion on LK on BBC today makes me worried its a possibility. The poor people on the train - I cannot even imagine .. ..Starmer needs to tackle knife crime as its rife. What is the answer ? When is there a tipping point ? I don't know but something must be done - I've never paid as much attention other than feeling so terribly sorry for any victims and families. Now I'm starting to get angry when I see anything like this

patriotism is seen as something shameful, especially by those on the far left. Compare with other european countries and their sense of national pride which isn’t considered shameful. You only have to read the numerous posts over the last 12 hours talking about flag shaggers.

But they’re not patriotic are they?

Why is their religion important when they’re British citizens and it’s not terror related?

if the police had said they were Muslim terrorists you’d be lapping it up.

Because none of what police says is to be trusted ? They also said the same on previous terrorist attacks . Religion is a must in this case band cause Islamic crimes are the norm in the U.K. when it comes to terrorist art aks in the uk . This is not racist or xenophobic it’s a fact

There was a stabbing down the road from me a couple of days ago, I think resulting in death. It's received no media attention probably because it wasn't an immigrant or under 18 year old. It happens all the time, it's just a few cases which get all the attention and wind everyone up.

That was different to two individuals storming a train and randomly trying to stab as many people as possible though.

The same as every other PM does following tragic incidents would be my guess, but hey, let’s turn a tragedy into a pop at Keir Starmer.

Why not he deserves it.

It’s interesting that the police said that one of the men was of Caribbean origin but not for the other. But many people on here are describing them both to be of Caribbean descent…

Both British. One of Caribbean descent, the other a Black British national. It implies the one of Caribbean descent is of mixed heritage.

The police are saying it's not terror-related.

Maybe we should wait for more information before speculating about motives.

elprup · 02/11/2025 11:45

“Nothing to suggest it was terror related" is a bad choice of words by the police. The act caused terror.

They need to qualify that with "nothing to suggest it was extremism-related terror".

I don’t think they need to qualify - as others have said, terrorism isn’t simply an act that causes terror. It needs to have a political, religious or ideological motive to be classed as terrorism.

The UK is becoming a country without the essential fabric of society to make it function at the most basic in a civil country. The NHS is in shambles, the police is in shambles, the economy is not growing and prices keep going up.

Don't put the blame on Starmer when 14 years of Tory's government underfunded services like the police,. He's inherited a poison chalice.

My condolences to the families affected by this attack

Yes but he needs to act. We need accountability and action. If the government and police genuinely don’t know of a motive yet then they need to be honest. Starmer needs to get police out on the streets immediately. Today. A visible presence and armed with tasers. Knife crime is out of hand anyway and it will take a long time to tackle. Any potential terrorist threats too will be something you cant deal with overnight but what he can do is get police out there.

JustSawJohnny · 02/11/2025 11:45

I've never known a PM be so BLAMED for everything!

Certainly didn't happen with that useless Twat Boris.

I'm not saying Starmer is doing a stellar job but FFS, some of you would blame him when you stubbed your feckin toe 🙄

Jesus Christ. I actually can’t cope with some people

cottonwoolie · 02/11/2025 11:46

They don't because in this context they mean the same thing.

Virtually every accident/crime invokes terror because it is terrifying to have your life threatened.

jlooy · 02/11/2025 11:46

The idiots running through the streets with flags draped across them, vandalising their local areas and shouting for everyone to go home.

It’s very early days into the investigation and you’re not actually entitled to that information.

Yes we are, or the famous old phrases "isolated incident" and "no threat to the wider population" need to be trundled out.

If they don't know whether there are other gang members/supporters/enablers/sympathisers, they must say so.

Yes, I agree and unnerving to think about how those poor people got on a train for a normal every day journey and had to face this extreme violence!

Libellousness · 02/11/2025 11:47

All white people were also children of immigrants in the uk

snd there are a lot of recent white immigrants in the uk also - but it’s skin colour that is noticed

I think it’s sad that people are so racist yet can’t understand how their racism will affect its victims and lead to the lack of cultural integration

There was essentially zero ‘immigration’ to Britain from the Norman Conquest in 1066, until the arrival of the French Huguenots - and there were fewer French Huguenots in total than people who now emigrate to the UK in a single month.

This idea that everyone in Britain is an immigrant is utterly ridiculous - it’s an imported Americanism that makes no sense whatsoever in our country, which was renowned throughout Europe for centuries for its settled population.

I am white British and I am not an immigrant, nor am I the child of an immigrant.

MyNimbleBrickCritic · 02/11/2025 11:47

WeCouldBeNiceToEachOther · 02/11/2025 11:37

It’s very possible that they’re third generation immigrants who are the grandchildren of the windrush generation. We can’t start deporting our own citizens because somewhere down the line they have non British ancestry.

I said nothing about deporting anyone.

We know from the research and statistics that being an immigrant, or a 2nd or 3rd generation increases the risk of radicalisation, serious mental illness, physical illness, poverty, poor educational achievements, experiences of racism and discrimination just to pluck out a few poorer outcomes.

Taytoface · 02/11/2025 11:48

If this was premeditated, it was pretty poor planning. Peterborough and Huntingdon are really close together. A large police presence was there within minutes. The station is less than a mile from a hospital and a fire and rescue centre. There are so many other places on that train line that are much more isolated and that the police would have taken much longer to get to. If you wanted to do maximum damage, that is not the best location.

I think I have seen reports that the attackers got on at Peterborough, and the attack started very soon after. At first I thought it was unlikely to be gang/drug related, given the scale of casualties, but I am not convinced now.

snughugs · 02/11/2025 11:48

I will be interested in after reading several of the eye witness statements on x. They only state one black man boarding at Peterborough station on his own. It’s hard to trust the media after they told us about the non terrorist attacker who was a Welsh born lad, we know now there was far more to this story of the young lad who committed a dreadful act in Southport. I wonder where the second man came into it? I don’t feel complete trust in what we are being told, may that’s wrong but let’s see. If they have done similar misleading like they did with the Southport case I will be disgusted but not at all surprised.

Well I never see any unless it’s ’cuppa with a copper’ at the local cafe so anything would be an improvement.

Nationals and citizens can be 2 different things.

Im keen to understand the motives here and why two men in their 30’s (were they known or not know to the police) were randomly attacking people on the train. Or the eye witness account I saw said only one had a knife. More questions than answers.

Edited

That is what the police investigations and subsequent court cases will establish. You expect the police to give you the full outcome of their investigations in under 24 hours?
