You can have 1 type of pick n mix, what are you getting?
I’m starting with white chocolate mice (I love cheap chocolate!)

If you can go back to the 90s, those white chocolate skulls with the bright red goop inside.

Otherwise, icy cups.

You can still get those skull things I’m sure, I’ve had them in the last couple of years

Countsounds · 01/11/2025 19:10

Kop Kops
Those peanut shaped sweets with chopped peanuts inside

ThatGreenFawn · 01/11/2025 19:11

The large strawberry sweets please. But the obes from the 90s not the ones you get now. They don't taste the same and are not as chewy.

CthulusMum · 01/11/2025 19:20

Acid drops or aniseed balls please

tobee · 01/11/2025 19:21

If we're talking slightly more sophisticated jars sat on a shelf for an unspecified length of time, weighed out on scales by a shop keeper, probably those little chocolate toffeey chewy things. No idea what they're called!

My nostalgia stretches far enough back to skip the pick'n' mix era and go straight to those jars-on-a-shelf. So much more exciting than pick 'n' mix. The anticipation of sweetness, all through the slow ceremony of Mr Duncan (in his brown shopkeeper jacket) moving the ladder, climbing it, lifting down the chosen jar, shaking 'a quarter' into the scale pan then tipping them into a brown paper bag. All finished off with the flourish of a rapid bag rotation, which closed the bag by creating two little spirals at its top edge. Happy days.

Ah that's such an evocative post 😊After primary school my DM would take me to the village shop. The shopkeeper was Mrs Haygreen who also performed quite a frustratingly slow ceremony. Firstly she had to waddle across behind the counter to fetch the little steps and then, once positioned, slowly and carefully heave herself onto them to fetch the jar down. She was expert at the paper bag twirling closure though. I can taste that quarter of sherbert pips now!

Raspberry Ruffles plse (the small ones)

MoonBugs · 01/11/2025 19:26

Those blue brain jelly filled sweets please,
or if they’re not available then just foam bananas.

Shrimps & bananas please.

Or just the bananas 🍌

I remember when these were the 2p sweets and everything else was 1p 🤣 Had to ration how many I got, then save them till the end as they were my faves!

Itsarecipefordisaster · 01/11/2025 19:26

I am torn between fruit salads and cola bottles - the ones with the sugar on the outside.
Happy days

tobee · 01/11/2025 19:27

When I was on the primary school pta we were allocated to do a sweet tombola thing. We had an evening where we drank wine and packaged the sweets from the cash and carry. Then I stored them at home in my dining room for a few days.

Every time anyone went in that room during that time we had an inhaled sugar high. The smell was unbelievable.

Sherbet pips (do they still exist?)

That's what I'm having too!

And yes they do. This thread is the reason I've just ordered some from Amazon.

TheGoldenApplesOfTheSun · 01/11/2025 19:33

It's got to be white mice for me! Either that or dusty milk bottles, I love that soft chalky milk flavour.

Floral gums, Edinburgh rock, aniseed balls or sports mix before they took the liquorice ones out and replaced them with blackcurrant 😡
