Much love and support @AcrossthePond55

I always love to see your posts. Very informative, though on telly addicts I might not always agree. x

PerkingFaintly · 05/11/2025 15:23

Oh @AcrossthePond55 I'm profoundly glad to see you. I've been thinking of you and hoping you were doing OK.

Sounds like you're doing an excellent job in creating a new life. Can't keep a good woman down!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 05/11/2025 15:26

Well done @AcrossthePond55, escaping from a relationship with an alcoholic is incredibly difficult. Been there, done that, have the ptsd.

Thanks all! Looking forward to posting more regularly. I do have my good and bad days (don't we all!) so may not be quite as 'visible' as before for awhile. OR contrariwise I may use some of my 'sad woman gets angry' moods to rip ol' SCROTUS a new one!!!

What an achievement

The Washington Post on Abigail Spanberger: "No woman has led Virginia since its colonial government was formed 406 years ago."

Lovely to hear from you @AcrossthePond55, sorry that life has thrown so much shit your way. You deserve more and to be happy ❤️

What an achievement

The Washington Post on Abigail Spanberger: "No woman has led Virginia since its colonial government was formed 406 years ago."

And it looks like she won by basing her campaign on local issues, a tactic mentioned up post for the D party, going forward.

She beat Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears after running a campaign focused on affordability and addressing local concerns about the impact of federal job cuts and the government shutdown on a state with more than 300,000 US government employees

Shutdown hits hard in Virginia, home to 300,000 federal workers | CNN Politics

The federal government shutdown — and the escalating battle over which party bears the most blame — has injected a major new question mark into the governor’s race in Virginia, home to hundreds of thousands of federal workers.

I bet bookies aren't taking bets on the 2025 winner

PickAChew · 05/11/2025 16:53

Ooh. I wonder which dictator will win that one.

Sorry your life has taken such a turn, @AcrossthePond55 but it's good to see you back. It could be quite cathartic to channel the angry part of your grief in the direction of the mahogany warmonger.

Incidentally, one of DS2's latest tics is "Orange! Orange!" triggered by various private eye covers 🤣

logicisall · 05/11/2025 18:35

SCOTUS might be finally getting a spine.

At the supreme court, Neal Katyal, the attorney arguing for private companies challenging Trump’s tariffs, said: “Tariffs are taxes. They take dollars from Americans pockets and deposit them in the US treasury. Our founders gave that taxing power to Congress alone. Yet here, the president bypassed Congress and imposed one of the largest tax increases in our lifetimes.”
.....
Many doctrines explain why this is illegal, like the presumption that Congress speaks clearly when it imposes taxes and duties and the major questions doctrine, but it comes down to common sense. It’s simply implausible that in enacting IEEPA, Congress handed the president the power to overhaul the entire tariff system and the American economy in the process, allowing him to set and reset tariffs on any and every product from any and every country at any and all times.

logicisall · 05/11/2025 18:45

If the ruling goes against Trump, what happens to all those blackmail trade agreements that countries hurried to sign? I imagine that then there might be questions about their legality.

pointythings · 05/11/2025 19:17

@AcrossthePond55 I am glad you are back and sad it is under such awful circumstances. Over the years I have seen you talk so much sense about alcohol and relationships, and I'm sorry it's now happening to you.

I really hope that you will be able to rebuild a happy life and find peace for your future.

jumpingthehighjump · 06/11/2025 08:04

@AcrossthePond55
So sorry to hear you are going through this, I cannot imagine how difficult it must be for you. So good to have you back on the thread

Nancy Pelosi has announced her retirement.

One way to explain it to the Donald is that now Mamdani had won, her work is done. Who knows, it may just be the straw we are waiting for.

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2025 18:44

One of the guys standing behind Trump during some WH health presser fainted and this was Trump's reaction (Kennedy ran away followed by Vance)

PerkingFaintly · 06/11/2025 19:08

I think we've been caught out by a headline again with that. I saw a bit of the video, and that's just an unfortunate still. The Orange One did actually react much more normally than the still suggests.

He genuinely does do quite enough disgraceful things! We don't need the occasional out-take which misrepresents events to make him look bad!

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2025 19:21

For completeness, the video

Notice how the women rush to help

Efacsen · 06/11/2025 19:56

TBH he doesn't look much more alert on the video - looks very pale too

MrTiddlesTheCat · 06/11/2025 20:58

So, the belief was that the Epstein files contain photos of Trump with half naked teenage girls. His own biographer said a while back that he'd seen the photos when interviewing Epstein. This is why the republicans are trying to block the release. But apparently they've now been briefed by the DOJ that the files are worse than that.

newrepublic.com/post/202813/department-justice-admits-republicans-epstein-files-worse-donald-trump

AcrossthePond55 · 06/11/2025 21:13

The complete Epstein files won't be released during SCROTUS' term. And may never be released at all unless very, very heavily redacted (to the point of being useless) depending on who's in them and who's 'in power'. I have a feeling that there are more than just a few extremely powerful men/people (and those in their sphere) who stand to lose quite a bit if their names come to light, and not just GOP politicians. And who are willing to do or pay whatever it takes to stop the release of those files.

One of the problems with society is that the Golden Rule has become 'Those with the gold, rule'. It's disgusting, it's disheartening, but I'm afraid it's just the way it is. And probably has been for ages, it's just more out in the open these days.

Oh where is 'Deep Throat' 2.0 when we need him/her.

Serpentstooth · 06/11/2025 22:04

Agree, not just Bigly, omerta for the lot of them, more's the pity.
