Why do that?

I will ask MN to remove it. I didn't mean to upset you.

Personally speaking, i think there are enough threads to engage with people with differing views across many subjects, without going on their right wing thread.

I don't go on their specific thread or even look at it... tbh i thought it was an unwritten rule

Alexandra2001 · 05/11/2025 15:42

..oh and according to Rex, we are all on benefits, union members or civil servants....

The right wing have always looked down on Govt employees, nothing new.

(i took a look...)

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/11/2025 15:58

Personally I'd far rather be labelled a 'Damn Pinko Commie' than a 'Jackboot wearing Nazi' - but I suppose it takes all sorts...

That’s one reason I don’t like middle schools. Splitting a Key Stage isn’t helpful.

They existed before key stages though....

I actually fit all those categories (well ex civil servant) plus I am self employed. What a conundrum!

Much of it sounds good but Phillipson is as bad at disregarding issues around teacher retention and workload as any of her predecessors, to be honest.

The year 8 tests are probably unnecessary.

Much of what the committee wanted and got is causing frothing form Tories but it mainly centres around the EBacc which loads of schools ignored anyway. .

I agree. On paper it sounds good. However if it’s going to put more pressure on teachers to get Yr 8’s test ready and provide extra curricula’s outside of their paid contact hours etc it’s really not going to help with recruitment and retention. In fact the opposite.

I think there is too much teach to test with yeh current curriculum and it’s too narrow. It basically favours those with a good memory and I don’t think of you fail gcse maths or English once having to retake and keep failing helps the already poor MH of school children.

Id like to see a complete overhaul but without it putting more pressure on teachers, adding more workload, more “free” hours of work and offering courses for pupils that help them succeed where their strengths lie.

I love the idea of critical thinking and AI etc being taught - but I am concerned about cutting budgets and adding more.

Let’s hope the plan can live up to the expectations and promises of an improved education system.

Yes, but there was a reason the KS were put where they were. 11-13 was always a natural point for expanding knowledge and prepping for GCSE. Even if you disagree, we have them now so it’s daft to perpetuate a system that splits one up.

What’s going on with all the deletions? Are we fighting on our ‘own’ thread now?!

Come on. it’s bad enough going to the other thread to stir things up - which we deride them for doing - without starting here.

Yes to the Slimeball. Commie. Pinko.

I've been called all of those in no particular order.

DuncinToffee · 05/11/2025 16:44

My post in reply to Placemats makes no sense now so I will ask MN to delete it.

No, we're not really fighting with each other! The deletions mean the exchanges make little sense, though.
