Understanding Sarah Ferguson’s loans

Why did she have to borrow money from Epstein, and others I believe?
Andrew is super wealthy and I’m sure she’s made money from her Duchess title, such as talk shows and products she’s endorsed.
i just can’t understand her loans. And why anyone would give her one. And why she has debt.
Hopefully some of you know why.
She lives freely with Andrew so no overheads there. Surely it’s a great no no to borrow money from friends.

The point is though that if someone has a personality issue (which needs professional help to change) they aren't able to do as you suggest because their judgement is skewed.

I'm not saying she did no wrong; I'm saying her judgement (which should tell her what is morally right and wrong) is skewed.

I am not aware of any massive handouts (unless you mean the £15K.)

If you aren't aware of the massive handouts, there is a lot of evidence now emerging.
Having a personality problem isn't an excuse. If she wasn't married to a royal, she would have had to get help and support, not rely on rich men's money to top her up.
I don't think she gets a pass on this, because everyone who does wrong could claim a "personality" issue.
However, that's your opinion. Perhaps I'm just less sympathetic to the pair of them.

I think she’s from one of those ‘formerly aristocratic but hasn’t got any money left’ families. Blue blood so acceptable as a royal wife, but the family struggled to pay the school fees sort of thing. All about keeping up appearances.

And then hasn’t had much work to speak of, and an expensive lifestyle to support.

I don’t think she has any particular skills / experience she can be paid for, beyond being a former member of the royal family and leveraging that connection…

Don’t forget Budgie the little helicopter! Was even made into a tv show on the BBC!

If you have a personality problem you often don't know you have one.
It's not an 'excuse' to say someone has psychological problems - maybe a better term than 'personality problems'.

It's clear from her yo-yo weight, her lack of self awareness, inappropriate behaviour in public, and her support of Andrew that she has some deep issues.

IMO she could probably benefit from a year in therapy to deal with her addictive spending, lack of judgement etc.

I think they are co-dependent on each other . IMO the only way to change anything would be for the money to dry up - seriously dry up- and that's not going to happen.

Spending like a billionaire with a millionaires budget.

How come neither of them ever learned their lesson and reined it in?

The saying 'Champagne lifestyle on a lemonade wage' springs to mind

Although uneaten sides of beef is criminally wasteful, and indeed a side of beef is eye wateringly expensive, I don’t think you need to tip up Jeffrey Epstein to cover the cost.

What is mad money is staff. Labour is certainly not cheap. I suppose once you’ve been in the rf or moved in ultra-wealthy circles, a weekly cleaning lady just doesn’t cut it. You want drivers on call, a housekeeper, ground staff, a chef, cleaning staff, a PA etc etc etc.

I’d imagine there was also sharks circling who saw her money as an easy target given how naive she was with it.
surrounded by billionaires, never having to budget for yourself. Seeing things as normal, like the meat, and the staff when they aren’t.

She's not from aristocracy in any way.

Her father was an army major. She went to some small private schools then to secretarial college.

For whatever reason, she and Andrew are co-dependent and in their own little bubble. I think she's deeply insecure and would hope she can get help some day through therapy.

She has had the money, means and opportunity to work on her problems. Going skiing 3 times one winter was explained because she said that mountains made her feel "grounded and healed". So she could have gone to a clinic in the Alps. Plenty of rich folks do.
I just don't think it's right to excuse someone's behaviour like this, when an ordinary woman would have had to go to work and sort herself out.

Yes, I think that's a good point.
Like her famous "financial advisor".

Figgygal · 20/10/2025 08:34

She's a notorious spender but really it's none of our business.
Every angle and detail are nor our business and it just feels like cancel culture on steroids at this point.

She's not 'ordinary' though- until this weekend gone she was a Duchess.

MaturingCheeseball · 20/10/2025 08:41

She did have a bum family: as pp said her dm ran off with a polo player and if I remember rightly Major Ron had some involvement with ladies of ill-repute…

I suppose that might be par for the course in those circles but SF has always seemed very eccentric and ungrounded.

She was apparently incredibly popular at school & must have a certain charm & charisma. Her own friends speak warmly of her. Or did.

Her mother was decapitated in a car accident, horrific. Although, according to Lownie, was driving way too fast. It’s interesting Sarah tried to pay off all/some of her mother’s debts. She seems very chaotic with a lot of borrowing from Peter to pay Paul.

Why is it none of our business? You'll know why Epstein has been so newsworthy, and why Virginia Guiffre has written a book?

That's my point. She has been, up until this point, shielded from the consequences of her choices by dint of privilege.

Didn't the late Queen pay the school fees? I thought that was part of the divorce settlement.

Of COURSE it’s our business. They are recipients of public money and are supposed to set an example and live in accordance with some moral framework. They’re all churchgoers too!

Quite. Plus they had Norland Nannies.

lljkk · 20/10/2025 09:08

Lots of ordinary women don't ever sort themselves out. No matter what amazing family or other financial support they have. She also seems to be outside of the Elite Cabal of rich people who have the cure for cancer but don't share it with the masses. Or maybe she's a token sacrifice...

Someone on thread said that although SF was a profligate spender, but in recent yrears that has changed. If she has learned to live within her means nowadays, then this thread would be very mean-spirited.

Right. You don't think that her relationship with Epstein is at all problematic?

I can very well imagine she was popular. Bonkers, game for a laugh, full of mischief, always up for a good time, funny, sociable, outgoing, charming, articulate, well connected, generous. I imagine she was surrounded by friends of all kinds.
