How many babies would you have if

You didnt have to worry about money, space or your age. I think I’d want 4, maybe 5. I love pregnancy and birth (even though I had c sections) so much and when you first see them. 🥺 Plus babies, gahh. Amazing. And I love watching them grow, even when Im so unbelievably overwhelmed.

So in my dream world Id be a sahm, enormouse house with big bedrooms, multiple holidays a year and a nanny for when Im stressed or want to work for fun (obviously!)

Obviously real life means most of us can’t do that!

Honestly, probably just two. I'm not sure I could cope with the mental load of having more children than that, I currently have one and on the fence about another as it is! Pregnancy is not my finest state (sick until third trimester) and I'm not in a hurry to repeat that. Couple that with a dose of unexpected postpartum anxiety and yeah, I'm fairly certain I wouldn't have a football team even if time/money/help was on my side. I do absolutely think having my little one is the best thing I've ever done though, they're absolutely awesome and I wouldn't trade motherhood for the world. ❤️

No amount of youth or wealth will help you parent them when you’re outnumbered 😂

MidlandsGal1 · 10/10/2025 20:04

In a perfect world I’d have 3 total. I have 2 now which is great, a son and a daughter and I feel complete but I’d love a 3rd and there’s nothing really preventing us other than that we’re exhausted enough as it is, we haven’t got the energy for another baby.

I’d probably have a third if I could afford a big enough house.

But, the cost of the big enough house while staying in the area I am in seriously prohibitive…!

casualcrispenjoyer · 10/10/2025 20:06

1, in this hypothetical world (I ended up with two irl)

it’s not money and space or my age, it’s time

even with a very present partner I am constantly juggling needs and have very little time for myself. I don’t get evenings any more as when one goes down beautifully, one is up every hour

even when everything is going swimmingly I don’t breathe ‘aaaaahhh’ and think it was all worth it- I’m too overstimulated and exhausted to ‘enjoy’ it. I really just want to be left alone these days. I feel very sorry for my eldest.

i was a much better mother to one child

gamerchick · 10/10/2025 20:06

I wouldn't want any. If I could go back I wouldn't have had any at all.

Anyone can do pregnancy and look after the grub stage. That's just keeping them alive. Parenting comes in later on and that's the hard work.

There is so much wisdom in this comment 😂.

As a child I wanted 6! As a single adult I wanted 4. Finally married right place etc 3. Then once the misery of ttc/ infertility/ repeat miscarriage set in 2.

DominosForDinner · 10/10/2025 20:08

Four!

OneFootAfterTheOther · 10/10/2025 20:09

2 - Should i be a more competent adult maybe 4.

NewtonsCradle · 10/10/2025 20:10

4

DaveWatts · 10/10/2025 20:11

Really not a fan of pregnancy here but I'd be very tempted to go up to at least 3 if I wasn't so old...

Dweetfidilove · 10/10/2025 20:11
  1. I don't have the mental capacity for many children.
Size40Shoes · 10/10/2025 20:11

If I had life again and was rich, absolutely none.

I love my kids with all that I have but the time and money I'd save would be amazing.

NuffSaidSam · 10/10/2025 20:11

I think probably four if I had a big enough house, a nanny, could afford to travel with them and enjoy great experiences together.

Jellybunny56 · 10/10/2025 20:12

I always said if money etc was no object then I would have liked 4, but I’m currently 8 months pregnant with my second and I have to say I’m not sure I could manage another pregnancy so I’d now say 2.

abracadabra1980 · 10/10/2025 20:12

2 - never felt any different

MumChp · 10/10/2025 20:13

5

We have 3. Doctors says it shouldn't be possible so we feel very blessed.

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 10/10/2025 20:14

I've got 3 and my third youngest daughter wasn't planned. She's adorable and wonderful but it's bloody hard work.

I'd probably have been better sticking to two but I love all my wonderful children ❤️

Loveduppenguin · 10/10/2025 20:15

2…2 was always my maximum regardless.

Pices · 10/10/2025 20:17

and if the planet wasn’t groaning under the weight of an exponential population we can’t sustain? 5. In the actual world as it is now: 2 per woman has to be the max.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 10/10/2025 20:18

Still two. I just don’t want to spend any more time/ headspace parenting than I already do.

Agree

ChaToilLeam · 10/10/2025 20:19

Still none, nothing would persuade me!

ainsleysanob · 10/10/2025 20:20

The same as I have now! One! My energy, money, attention, dedication and pride goes into one person. One person who carries my maternal heart with him everywhere he goes. I don’t want or need another. He fulfils everything in me. He enjoys his ‘one man band’ lifestyle with me and DH and our family of three is perfect. Now, dogs? I’d have 3.

GoldBalonz · 10/10/2025 20:20

We have 3 ds's.

If we'd been able to guarantee another boy we'd have gone for number 4 (because ds3 and ds4 could have shared a bedroom).

We didn't want to risk a girl though as that would have been a nightmare for us so dh had the snip after ds3 instead.

If money was no object we'd have gone for number four because we could have just moved from a 4 to a 5 bed so risking a girl wouldn't have mattered.
