Taking paracetamol doesn’t give you autistic babies but voting for Trump definitely gives you a festering carcass of American rot shoved into an ill-fitting suit: the sleaze of a conman, the cowardice of a draft dodger, the gluttony of a parasite, the racism of a Klansman, the sexism of a back-alley creep, the ignorance of a bar-stool drunk, and the greed of a hedge-fund ghoul— all spray-painted orange and paraded like a prize hog at a county fair.

He’s dragging America back to the Eighties, probably the last time he had a clear train of thought.

The eighties seem like quite a nice time in retrospect. I actually wouldn't mind going back. I feel more like he's dragging us into a dystopian future he's too stupid to understand

Justdancevance · 23/10/2025 18:38

He’ll probably make Sylvester Stallone the next minister of war, all the main cast of Airwolf have passed away or else he’d ask them to fly to South America again 🤣

Justdancevance · 23/10/2025 18:42

The eighties were simple, America was a good guy (in their own minds) and the world was ‘grateful’ they interfered, as they knew best.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 23/10/2025 19:56

I grew out of that feeling twenty years earlier, when the Cuban missile crisis took place after the failed US invasion of Cuba the previous year and for a bit it looked as if my future wasn't going to happen.

Justdancevance · 23/10/2025 21:21

I managed to see Steve Coogans Dr StrangeLove. Hegseth and milllet would have fit right into that oddball cabinet of war

This is the Canada ad Trump lost his mind over. Shocker, he’s lying—it is Reagan’s real voice.

He’s now cutting off trade with Canada because he’s scared it could mess with the Supreme Court case over his “reciprocal” tariffs.

Thank you for pointing that out, I wasn’t aware, as I wasn’t even signed in to substack when I read it and shared it. Since substack is a place for people to post their musings on various subjects, and as I never post on it and just follow a few people on it from time to time, I doubt anyone would want to follow me on it anyway.

There was an interesting discussion of Trump’s latest doings on LBC between James O’Brien and Simon Marks earlier this afternoon*, which I had to turn off quite quickly for the sake of my BP and my sanity, but I heard the Reagan clip and the explanation that it is not the Canadian government, but the government of Ontario who is running this ad.

*I think it was at about 12.05 UK time.

Serpentstooth · 24/10/2025 16:52

I feel for Simon Marks. His comfortable job as LBC US correspondent has morphed into a recital of the hideous dystopian nightmares Trump is daily inflicting on the country. He sounds more furious every day. At least he's speaking truth which seems to have left the greater part of the US media behind.Still a reliable news source.

The point at which I gave up was when Simon Marks explained that no US journalists are holding that fat orange shit to account, and mentioned that it was only in their 15th paragraph on the subject of the demolition of the East Wing, that the NYT mentioned something vaguely derogatory (I don’t know what it was as I couldn’t hear it over my shouting at the “radio”). FFS.

The Trump presidency will be an awakening for Americans that leaders like him have no boundaries, so legal restrictions will have to be in place to protect things, like the White House, that they'd never thought needed protecting. Apparently there is no legal requirement for consultation/permission before demolishing a part the WH.

And Hegseth's been on the gin again. Is he still Defense Secretary or is he now Secretary of War?

I've been trying to figure out exactly what America hopes to achieve in South America, seeing that Trump's administration seems to be involved in Venezuela, Argentina and Colombia recently.

Canada back in the firing line. (I read somewhere that the ad was only shown in Ontario)

So, so tired of it all.

Steve Bannon: “Trump is gonna get a third term and people ought to just get accommodated with that. At the appropriate time we’ll lay out what the plan is, but there’s a plan and President Trump will be the president in ‘28.”

More on the Canada tantrum.

from NYT.
In calling a halt to trade talks with Canada, President Trump pointed to an ad paid for by the province of Ontario that used a speech President Ronald Reagan made decades ago. In it, Mr. Reagan speaks against tariffs, a tool Mr. Trump has widely deployed, including against Canada, and warns against protectionism.
Mr. Trump claimed that the ad was fake and that it had been aired “to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court,” which is considering a legal challenge to many of his tariffs.
But the advertisement, which Ontario’s provincial government purchased to air in the United States, uses sound bites from a radio address Mr. Reagan made in April 1987 that was critical of tariffs. It reproduces Mr. Reagan’s quotes accurately, but changes the order he said them.
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute said in a statement that the Canadian ad misrepresented Mr. Reagan’s views. The foundation did not immediately respond to a question about how the ad misrepresented those views.

Hoping they've got a reanimation squad on standby. How old will the Orange Bastard be by then? Who's going to succeed him? Michael Wolff, Bigly biographer, has a lengthy account of Bannon giving Epstein media training, at which he, Wolfe, was present. It's on substack.

RafaistheKingofClay · 24/10/2025 19:44

I think I’d be focussing on making sure he lives until the end of his current term if I were Bannon.

DuncinToffee · 24/10/2025 19:48

He is not going to leave that golden ballroom

placemats · 24/10/2025 20:40

Of course Trump has no boundaries. His friend Epstein didn't.

Igotjelly · 24/10/2025 21:47

I can’t help but think that war with Venezuela is on the not too distant horizon.

I'm being dense, but what grifting is there to be had by menacing/attacking Venezuela? I know they want to remove Maduro. Is Trump trying to mimic his erstwhile hero, Vlad?
(Not read much about it, what with everything else that's going on.)

From NYT - warships on their way.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the deployment of the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford as well as its accompanying warships and attack planes to waters off Latin America, the Pentagon said on Friday, in a dramatic escalation of military might in the region.
The enhanced American presence “will bolster U.S. capacity to detect, monitor, and disrupt illicit actors and activities that compromise the safety and prosperity of the United States homeland and our security in the Western Hemisphere,” Sean Parnell, the Pentagon’s chief spokesman, said on social media.
Mr. Parnell did not say when the Ford, the Navy’s most modern and technologically advanced carrier, would be moving to the region or where it would be positioned. Navy officials said on Friday that the Ford is currently steaming off the coast of Croatia on a monthslong European deployment and would take seven to 10 days, depending on speed and weather conditions, to reach its new assigned mission with U.S. Southern Command.
Since late August, the U.S. military has deployed about 10,000 troops to the Caribbean, about half of them on eight warships and half in Puerto Rico, for what the administration says is a counterterrorism and counternarcotics mission. The Ford carries about 5,000 sailors and has more than 75 attack, surveillance and support aircraft, including F/A-18 fighters.
