Does anyone else LOVE winter?

I’m so excited the nights are drawing in. I love winter. I love it getting dark early. šŸŒ™ Love candles šŸ•Æļø and the fire on. šŸ”„ I love the orange leaves on the ground.

For me also I’m less busy at work. It’s my husbands birthday and mine and my adult kids too. We go away on holiday in winter.

And of course there’s Christmas…..šŸŽ…

Yes I do, I especially love autumn. You can’t beat a crisp, fresh autumnal (or winter) walk. Things feel softer when not in the glaring summer sun, there’s a peacefulness about it.

I like being warm, but you don't need it to be winter to achieve that. My thermostat is set to 19, so unless it's hotter than that, I'm just as warm whatever the weather. I've got blankets on my sofas if we do get cold, but I find the whole 'cosy snuggly' obsession a bit infantile and cringe tbh.

I agree, it's like trying to get back to the womb. That ain't never gonna happen, folks.

Huckinfell · 23/09/2025 20:16

Not so much winter (apart from Christmas) but I love autumn! I like the dark mornings and evenings at this time of year.. not so much in winter when it's feels like it's dark all the time. You can often get a lot of sun in autumn which looks lovely against all the colourful leaves, but without the heat of summer.
The older I get the more I dislike summer. Everything about it makes me feel stressed!

ImAPreMadonna · 23/09/2025 20:20

I detest Christmas

I detest heavy clothes

I detest tights

I detest jumpers and wool around my neck

I TRULY detest hot chocolate

No, Winter is not my season. Roll on Spring!

Rubyupbeat · 23/09/2025 20:21

It's my favourite season, dark evenings and mornings, cosy house, trees becoming bare and crispy icy mornings.

QueenOfCastille · 23/09/2025 20:36

As I'm getting older, I'm embracing all of the seasons. I love to feel the world turning. And I have no idea how many more I will see.

Waiting for the "Enjoy your nice warm house this winter while I FREEZE because I can't afford heating" comments...

I thrive in winter, jumpers, boots, all the fires lit, mulled wine, dark evenings!!

I highly doubt that you would be thriving in Winter without your lovely source of heating though, would you? That is the harsh reality for lots of people, that you see fit to make light of. It would not be so fun when your house is cold, because you could not afford the heating! Good for you, that you are not in that position, eh!

No expectations for months? Sounds lovely but that doesn’t happen here. It’s back to normal pretty quickly after Christmas

Well back to work and normal
life etc but not for being out always having to do something. Just my walking boots and a long wander somewhere without much else in the diary.

BitOutOfPractice · 23/09/2025 21:30

No. Dark. I hate going out in the dark, coming home in the dark. It depresses me.

My diary is pretty equally busy all year round. Obviously a bit more busy at Christmas. It’s actually a bit quieter in the summer holidays when everyone is away at different times…

Only on Mumsnet do people love the dark. Getting up in the dark is great apparently. Wandering around in the dark.. great!

Or maybe they don’t need to go anywhere because you can’t tell me commuting in the dark is fun. Maybe they’re ā€˜snuggled’ under a blanket with candles lit for 6 months solid….

Scottishskifun · 23/09/2025 21:34

I love going skiing (but I'm in Scotland so much less glamorous then it sounds!) Snow and crisp cold air walks.
I massively dislike the winter storms and power cuts!

I always wonder if the winter snugglers of MN have to get up at 6,30 on a cold dark morning and actually ever leave their cosy candle lit houses to go work.

RampantIvy · 23/09/2025 22:18

This is mumsnet, home of summer haters, so you will find an echo chamber here.

No, I hate winter. I hate the short days, getting up in the dark and driving in the dark.

I don't want to feel "cosy" and fester snuggle under a blanket. I hate candles, I'm not a big fan of Christmas.

I prefer warmer ambient temperatures, being able to wear summer clothes and not have to spend 10 minutes bundling up every time I leave the house.

I love it. It makes my soul feel alive again when autumn begins.

That’s it exactly

DietQueen2023 · 23/09/2025 22:25

Summer lover here! I love wearing shorts šŸ˜

Dozeyduck · 23/09/2025 22:26

No. It's shit.

VeryQuaintIrene · 23/09/2025 22:27

Autumn and winter are lovely although I hate scraping my car in the mornings.

StrongLikeMamma · 23/09/2025 22:28

Wish I did. But I just miss the sun ā˜€ļø 😭
I do love Christmas though.

Get a car windscreen cover honestly saves so much time!

I adore autumn and winter. Quite like spring.

I don't like the summer, and I really dislike August particularly šŸ˜‚

Are you me?!🤣

I went outside to the outhouse this morning and it was freezing and my heart genuinely lifted. Warm and hot weather drains me and I feel so lethargic so this weather makes my body breathe a sigh of relief.

louderthan · 23/09/2025 22:56

I like winter a lot. I hate Christmas though. I’m always happy in January, fresh start and all that. My birthday is in February and March feels so hopeful with the lighter evenings and spring plants starting to appear.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 23/09/2025 22:56

Yes, it's time to depart, go somewhere warm, overlooking the sea ... just for 3 or 4 months

TheBirdintheCave · 23/09/2025 23:45

IfNot · 23/09/2025 18:29

… it’s Autumn! Halloween, also Autumn!

Right? It was still summer two days ago šŸ˜‚ I’m now very happily enjoying the start of autumn. I’ll enjoy winter when it gets here too šŸ˜…

Yes, I do. Leave the house at 6.30 am.
