Does anyone else LOVE winter?

I’m so excited the nights are drawing in. I love winter. I love it getting dark early. šŸŒ™ Love candles šŸ•Æļø and the fire on. šŸ”„ I love the orange leaves on the ground.

For me also I’m less busy at work. It’s my husbands birthday and mine and my adult kids too. We go away on holiday in winter.

And of course there’s Christmas…..šŸŽ…

Nope,NE Scotland it's a complete bastard getting about, pavements and side roads left like bottles.
DW fell and broke her wrist in two places.

ExquisitelyDecorating · 23/09/2025 18:55

I don't mind the cold but hate the darkness, 18 hours of daylight all year round would be perfect.

LadydeBathe · 23/09/2025 18:57

Me! I love it. But I also love the other seasons. 😬

Mostly, I love the clothes in winter. Oh, and the dark evenings, having the wood burner lit, candles, just everything about it.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 23/09/2025 18:59

I adore autumn and winter. Quite like spring.

I don't like the summer, and I really dislike August particularly šŸ˜‚

juldan · 23/09/2025 19:04

Nope. I absolutely hate. I love feeling warm and detest being cold. It fills me with dread that the next time I am going to feel consistently warm, won’t be for at least 8 months. I don’t have/can’t afford a fire and since energy prices are so high, I can’t keep my home as wam as I like. For me comfortable indoor temperature is 22-23 degrees and it won’t happen till next summer.
I love waking up when it is light, sitting outside till the sunset. There is no better feeling than going to an outdoor pool on a hot sunny day, when the water feels cool on your skin.
I wouldn’t mind a few weeks of proper winter, with snow crunching under your feet on a bright sunny day, but I hate months and months of rain, wind and grey misery which we have in the UK . It’s not winter, but a never ending autumn.
There is no joy in going out.
Ok, I can light a candle and sit underneath a blanket but will be bored stiff after 5 minutes.
Sitting outside reading a book/ scrolling the internet or just chilling with the birds in the background and a lot of greenery around is much more enjoyable.

Delatron · 23/09/2025 19:11

No! I hate being cold. And let’s be honest heating bills are a fortune in this country so what is there to like about that?

It also goes on forever. Easter can be colder than Christmas.. it’s never ending.

Getting up in the dark feels brutal and it’s definitely not we were designed to do.

I can do far more in the summer evenings - dog walks, runs, etc. The people who like winter tend to be those that like to fester under a blanket on the sofa for months…boring.

Delatron · 23/09/2025 19:12

I too would like a few weeks of a proper winter with snow! But like the poster before me said - we basically get 6 months of a drizzly meh Autumn.

socks1107 · 23/09/2025 19:13

Yes I love it. One of my favourite times is the months after Xmas. No expectations for anything and long Sunday walks wrapped up

genesis92 · 23/09/2025 19:19

I love it. It makes my soul feel alive again when autumn begins.

No expectations for months? Sounds lovely but that doesn’t happen here. It’s back to normal pretty quickly after Christmas

40andlovelife · 23/09/2025 19:23

I love it but not looking forward to getting SAD which I get every year

jonthebatiste · 23/09/2025 19:27

YES! But I can afford heating, warm clothes, and am an introvert. I feel free in winter.

EchoedSilence · 23/09/2025 19:34

Hate the cold dark mornings. Hate the dark evenings. Hate wearing coats and boots and jumpers.Hate seeing my garden die and bare trees.

So no, I don't love winter. It's bloody miserable.

FullOfMomsense · 23/09/2025 19:36

Waiting for the "Enjoy your nice warm house this winter while I FREEZE because I can't afford heating" comments...

I thrive in winter, jumpers, boots, all the fires lit, mulled wine, dark evenings!!

MadisonMarieParksValetta · 23/09/2025 19:39

The only thing I don't like is icy pavements.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 23/09/2025 19:40

I’m really trying to embrace winter this year. I love being cosy and autumn can be beautiful.

LoandBeahold · 23/09/2025 19:48

Absolutely love getting snuggly in woolies

Cringe! And you mentioned hot chocolate too. Mumsnet hygge bingo!

DiscoNights · 23/09/2025 19:48

I love the romanticised idea of it. The candles, the log fires, the smell of wood smoke in the air, doing indoor things like cosy coffee shops and atmospheric restaurants and theatre. And I do love winter clothes.

The reality is, for me anyway, constant colds, flu and chest infections. A bad case of seasonal affective disorder from the lack of light. Being freezing cold and wet. Being assaulted by Christmas music for over a month. Longing for summer.

sugarapplelane · 23/09/2025 19:50

I love Winter and Autumn. I find the dark comforting and cosy and love wrapping up in woolly jumpers and warm socks.
I’m even one of the mad people that would love to experience polar night for a few months like they have in Svalbard

MotherofPearl · 23/09/2025 19:50

I really love this time of year. I can feel my energy returning. My favourite though is a really frosty winter night, when the air is crisp, the stars are bright and the pavement sparkles with frost.

Livpool · 23/09/2025 19:52

Bigearringsbigsmile · 23/09/2025 18:45

It's awful. Depressing and cold and dark.
I am absolutely dreading the next 5 months.

Same!

I always find the weather is nice when the kids go back to school but not this year. It was torrential rain on Saturday. Brighter but a lot colder this week.

I only like Christmas in the winter - roll on March šŸŒž. I don’t think I would mind colder weather (not rain as it he makes my asthma worse) as much if it weren’t for the darker mornings and afternoons - depresses me.

The man who runs the shop over the road from me said he is from Ghana and reckons north west Africa would suit me - fine by me!

Yes! Screw those people that can’t afford heating and are miserable for 6 months.

That’s the spirit..

BogRollBOGOF · 23/09/2025 19:54

Autumn's great until the leaves are smushed pulp on the ground. Winter isn't devoid of its little highlights, but the ratio of chilly grey, damp gloom to crisp bright frosts/ snows is pretty lousy in the UK.

The lack of daylight is a slog. Working full time, you can go a full working week without experiencing proper daylight. Blurgh. Not healthy.

Summer clothing is much more comfortable than layering like a human pass the parcel.

No, not a winter lover, and it drags on so bloody long, especially if it's followed by a spring that fails to thrive.

MagicLoop · 23/09/2025 20:02

I like being warm, but you don't need it to be winter to achieve that. My thermostat is set to 19, so unless it's hotter than that, I'm just as warm whatever the weather. I've got blankets on my sofas if we do get cold, but I find the whole 'cosy snuggly' obsession a bit infantile and cringe tbh.
