Robert Redford has died - amazing Actor and many of integrity. When my Dad, who is 80, recently visited us, he wanted to watch All The Presidents Men with my late teen DS, a great film but quite telling how DS thought the scandal to be quite tame compared to today's politics!

Goodness, my grammar is appalling today, that should read, 'President's' not the above.

That is sad news.

He liked black cats

Great photo - both good looking!

I watched Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid a few weeks ago. So sad to hear that. 😪

All the Presidents Men is great too.

Edited

Oh yes, great in that too!

I'm now listening to South American Getaway by Bacharach. Seems fitting.

cardibach · 16/09/2025 13:44

He was heart stoppingly beautiful as a young man. Well, for my heart.

Piggywaspushed · 16/09/2025 13:46

One of my students just told me he died. Genuinely sad.

Yes, very much so but had depth of character which is also very attractive IMO.

Notonthestairs · 16/09/2025 13:49

I loved him in The Way We Were with Barbra Streisand.

Yes - I feel a bit bad appreciating him so much for his looks! Intelligent and principled too which are much more attractive traits in people you actually meet.

placemats · 16/09/2025 13:57

His only Oscar nomination in acting was for was for The Sting. He won best director for Ordinary People.

As a teenager, I had a poster of him on his motorbike.

Just saw a clip of that on the news, I have never watched that all the way through, not due to lack of desire so must try to watch that.

Wow, that's really surprising, he seemed like he was incredibly versatile, not type cast.

I no, I wasn't criticising, he was beautiful but his character just added to that I suspect.

PandoraSocks · 16/09/2025 14:16

Oh, that is very sad. I loved him in his later years too. The Old Man and the Gun is a great film.

Keir Starmer tells his Cabinet that scenes of police under attack at a march "led by a convicted criminal and egged on by a foreign billionaire calling for violence" sent "a chill through the spines" of British people.

Says UK in "the fight of our times" against "toxic division" and "we must win"

Get on and tell us, Keir. You can’t win on being very competent against people like this alone. They don’t care.

Still lurking on my go to thread for sanity, reasoned discussion and heartwarming kindness on the on the internet. I'm heartbroken at the moment as my lovely lovely dear little cat has been missing for a month and I'm totally at a loss. 😔. Love all your taxes 💕 💕

Very sorry to hear this. There are stories of cats turning up after longer gaps so not all hope is lost. 💐

Reform is beginning to look like a failed Conservative members’ club. If they want to attract the red wall they could well find come an election many voters will baulk at voting for Tories they have always opposed. Not that I want Reform to succeed. It’s the same as Labour are putting all their efforts into attacking Reform without looking at votes they are losing to the left.

Karistyleaftea · 16/09/2025 15:43

I adored Robert Redford, especially in The way we Were.
RIP Hubbell.

Sorry to hear about the missing cat @takingcareofme2023 - what a worry. Sad

Seems like we’re back to benefit bashing now. One poster suggesting that we should return to workhouses. FFS.

DuncinToffee · 16/09/2025 17:24

Started by a NC or new poster as well.

I reported it, but only one post has been deleted - leaving it very obvious (by the rest of their/other posts) what the subject was.

takingcareofme2023 · 16/09/2025 17:27

Rest in Peace Robert Redford.

Thank you for all the good wishes and understanding about my little cat. The world today is so utterly depressing, I have difficult issues in extended family and she was the simple, uncomplicated, relationship in my life, especially now kids left home. Feeling bereft.

Can't bear thought of Trump here. Can't bear what America has become and what we are becoming. Can't bear the flag being weaponised. Am recently retired and genuinely feel sad that things probably won't get better in my lifetime .
