I made a lovely chilli today, someone on MN posted the link to this recipe. Really delicious. Though I recommend only using 500ml of stock.

Sounds lovely

Notonthestairs · 23/09/2025 20:14

I have an induction hob. Think it will turn out the same if I use the grill?
I'm not wheeling out the bloody BBQ again.

Saucery · 23/09/2025 20:16

Interesting, so you don’t have to salt the aubergine to prep it, because you are charring it?

One of the comments mentions using a grill pan rather than the hob, so I think that would be ok. You don’t chop the aubergine, so it might not fit under a grill depending how your oven is set up? lol at stuffing a hefty aubergine into a grill compartment.

Notonthestairs · 23/09/2025 20:23

I'll get small ones and experiment a bit. 😁

No salting needed, but these days I don't think you need to. I never do.

I think you could half the aubergine and grill it skin side up.

I love the bbc good food recipes.

They do some lovely pasta bakes

I part microwave aubergines (keeping an eye on them in case the stalk ignites!) then finish them under the grill. Not as well charred but still delicious. Even DH will eat them cooked like that.

Saucery · 23/09/2025 20:26

I always salt my aubergine @PandoraSocks, I’m old fashioned that way Grin
It’s a faff so I rarely cook with them!

PickAChew · 23/09/2025 20:27

I've gone peachy pink again.

Have you reset your colours and got rid of the THIS IS YOUR POST, DEAR! YES, YOUR POST IN CASE YOU HAVE THE ATTENTION SPAN OF AN AMOEBA! button at the top? I have and am finding MN just about usable again.

Yes! Much better. I am peachy again too @PickAChew rather than John West aneamic salmonesque.

I like this - top tip.

I'm not sure that this talk of hefty aubergines is appropriate for this thread...

Anyone else watching BBC News now. The tone of the report on asylum hotels is appalling.

Yes, I was really shocked by it, accusatory tone.

Piggywaspushed · 23/09/2025 21:11

Some of the things said then didn't even feature in the article...

I've managed to get my purple back. Didn't spot that you can get rid of the not a button.

PickAChew · 23/09/2025 22:03

Ah. Much better.

And I'm now craving the 🍆 curry I used to make even though it doesn't really agree with me.

LlttledrummergirI · 23/09/2025 22:20

Thank you so much for the pointer. My colours are back to normal and I've removed the awful labelling of op and me.

Now if they can tone the blue back time that would be helpful.

BIWI · 23/09/2025 22:37

Absolutely no response from MNHQ about what they were trying to do with the new colours, other than a ‘refresh’. No comment on why they thought a refresh was needed, and clearly absolutely no understanding of what different colours might mean, in terms of communicating a brand position/brand values, etc. (Never mind the issue of accessibility).

Colour and tones are massively important in terms of communication - the switch to soft, light and bright pastel colours was so far away from the previous stronger, deeper tones, it really changes the whole feel about the site - made me wonder if we were heading towards sparkles, banners and tickers as Netmums used to have.

bombastix · 23/09/2025 23:15

Mmm! New, small c Mumsnet with lovely pastels

InMySpareTime · 24/09/2025 06:12

@bombastix “ Mumsnet” spelled with any size of c would be a very different site 💦😂
