This is both amusing and rather sad as the Conservatives wake up to the fact that Boris Johnson was in fact the reason they have sunk to the depths of nowhere. Andrew Neill is on the money here, they should never have voted him in. He’s destroyed them and Farage will never let him into Reform.

Yes, Boris was "a character"..
However, so is Nigel Farright.

Fool me once etc ....

DuncinToffee · 18/09/2025 13:43

People knew exactly who and what Johnson was long before choosing him as PM

Same with Farage

I agree that voting for fecking idiots simply because they are a 'big character' (Johnson, Trump, Farage etc) is a disaster.
Not sure that the utter lack of charisma shown by either Starmer or Badenoch is a good response though...

DuncinToffee · 18/09/2025 14:06

I have started reading 'Fake History', the first chapter is about Churchill and starts with a story about a cleaning lady and a secret document, completely made up by one Alexander de Pfeffel

bombastix · 18/09/2025 14:10

Churchill wrote his own history very effectively. He did not need the help of Johnson and his lightweight prose

Whilst I have little sympathy for people who are the authors of their own misfortune, I can see why people who feel they have tried the "old way" of getting sombre serious men (yes, I mean that) feel they have nothing to lose for having a larf and voting for the characters.

However, if you are poor working class in Britain, thinking you have nothing to lose, then you, my ostrich impersonating friend, really haven't any imagination.

I suspect you are attempting to insult me here. Really not sure that my post warrants it. I may however have misread your intention.

It's not all about you.

I don't think Jane was referring to you personally?

Agreed, I've re-read it. Thrown by multiple references to 'you' in a post that quoted one of mine.
No problem 😁

Anyone watching the press conference. God - Trump is waffling . He's already dissed Biden, lied about the seven wars and is wittering on about trillions. How anyone could think this is a man is capable to run a bath - let alone a country is beyond me.

cardibach · 18/09/2025 15:50

I’ve just booked a holiday for the 7th October. Off to forget about the shit show for a bit.

This could explain Chris Mason

🚨 NEW: Britain’s most powerful people are still 5x more likely to have been privately educated than the general population.

Our brand-new research reveals that jobs in the media, business, charity, creative and public sectors remain dominated by those from private schools ⤵️🧵

That's fascinating about the current cabinet!

Pop stars will change - music is dead in the water beyond independent schools.

My state educated DS wants to be a journalist. Unfortunately ( and I am totally in favour of positive recruitment) he doesn't qualify for any of the schemes set to redress the balance but I guess it's an advantage that he remains solidly middle class and white and male. But he definitely hasn't had the nepotism leg up other white, privileged males enjoy. It's the trouble with professions that are based so much on internships and work experience which mummy and daddy can sort out or fund.

Karistyleaftea · 18/09/2025 16:28

@Evenstar Thanks re the Chris Mason post.
I didn't think it was just me being shocked about his attitude nowadays.
The privileged do not want upward social mobility. Not really.
Look what the journos did to Angela Rayner.

Isn't imagination for the better, of those who are poor, the desired effect of those who have wealth? Even if it means my wallet is bigger than yours?

I'm not quite sure what you mean ?

However, generally, in my life, the people with least imagination tend to also lack other intellectual capacities.

He can't run physically. Period. He's already admitted that his children run his multifarious businesses.

Can anyone imagine him putting on his own socks?

Eta is anyone else seeing their posts now in pink?

Notonthestairs · 18/09/2025 17:07

Was just about to ask whats happened to MN? I tried to reset my preferences but the options are now much more limited. Horrible colours.

Notonthestairs · 18/09/2025 17:20

Trump's verbal diarrhea achieves exactly what he wants it to achieve. The effect of the near constant stream of nonsense means that journalists struggle to keep up with the lies as they fall. He's then able to steamroller through questioning by telling more lies (and excluding selected journalists - free speech be damned). Until the deluge is such that nobody knows where to start to unpick it all.

Doesn't know Mandelson!! - I mean its an outright lie - but there are so many others that it will get lost in the mix.

I don't know. She now has the optics of children who are trusting of her. The FLOTUS is with children and happy to accompany the POTUS. There's surely no connection with the known paedophile Epstein. Type of narrative. I don't trust either of them.
