What do you prefer when buying a house?

I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority group that prefer either houses that are ready to move in or that are liveable for at least 2-3 years. I never buy based on a vision/project/putting my stamp on it.

We’re selling our house in 4 years, and quite frankly as much as it’s liveable for whoever buys it, it does look outdated.

I think we’re already on negative equity, so we think we’ll at least need to refresh the kitchen somehow (and possibly the bathrooms) the question is how much work is it sensible considering we’re selling it? The whole pint of the remedial work would be to sell it faster and not get cheeky offers because to some it might look more like a project than a liveable house.

That’s in your opinion. I don’t find it debilitating

Because at its core I want to understand myself better.

but how I feel nor think bothers me, I’m just curious.

I feel a happy and fulfilling life, especially given everything I’ve been through, but what people think of me (or not!) I couldn’t care less.

In fact I don’t like most people so it’s ok!

to me (who is the only person I really care about) I’m living quite a successful life, which by definition is the opposite of debilitating.

I set you a challenge..,, if you get that garage conversion sorted in the new year and move in to your new home office and gym…. Come back and post a photo?

I don’t think we will get a new year update

10 years of counting down to improve your life and you still have another 4 years to go.

I agree, there is something quite tragic about this OP.

But I’ve gradually improved my life, which is what people don’t seem to get.

plus the “improvement “ is just getting back to where I was

The small double that your mum stays in when she visits?

Rooit · 30/09/2025 18:20

The 9’7x9’5 room? Is that a double?

Rooit · 30/09/2025 18:20

I understand now why you’re so desperate for a garage conversion!

How on earth can you work day in day out from your 6 year old’s bedroom (those dimensions are barely a double in fact I’d see it as a single), and then you mum moves in to that bedroom for 3 months as well. I’m surprised you haven’t had a nervous breakdown

edit just seen that you are likely ND

I would say that isn’t the ND it’s more that only for a very short period of time in the 14 I’ve worked remotely only a couple of years I’ve had a dedicated office, so I’m sort of used to it now.

used to it but clearly not at all happy with it hence spending £12k on a garage conversion is likely to add zero value and likely make trickier to sell

where do you work out?

presuming you are ND, this environment won’t be helping you at a op

Freshfacet · 01/10/2025 07:38

Do you get the school holidays off work?

in the conservatory and the landing.

the conservatory has the peloton and all the weights.

in the landing I do yoga/barre/pilates

and no I don’t have the school
holidays off, I have a normal corporate job, but the good news is that the primary has excellent wraparound care and summer “camps”

You do your work out in the tiny landing?

Op this truly sounds absolutely awful

Have you considered joining a gym?? You could work there too
