What do you prefer when buying a house?

CVVFan · 15/09/2025 16:13

I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority group that prefer either houses that are ready to move in or that are liveable for at least 2-3 years. I never buy based on a vision/project/putting my stamp on it.

We’re selling our house in 4 years, and quite frankly as much as it’s liveable for whoever buys it, it does look outdated.

I think we’re already on negative equity, so we think we’ll at least need to refresh the kitchen somehow (and possibly the bathrooms) the question is how much work is it sensible considering we’re selling it? The whole pint of the remedial work would be to sell it faster and not get cheeky offers because to some it might look more like a project than a liveable house.

This is what I mean with the bedrooms being almost impossible to make bigger / more useable

You work out on this landing?!

CVVFan · 01/10/2025 07:50

Freshfacet · 01/10/2025 07:44

You do your work out in the tiny landing?

Op this truly sounds absolutely awful

Have you considered joining a gym?? You could work there too

Yeah but working out from home is ideal for me. I literally work out between meetings, and save tons of time that way.

My gym has an amazing work centre. It’s superb. Could you find out. I think it would transform your life

I have read the entire thread op and often you respond within seconds of any response… you respond throughout the day. Do you have an alert whenever you receive a response? If so, I’d urge you to turn off mumsnet email notifications on your settings

No I don’t have alerts set off, (well I do get a notification) but it doesn’t make a noise.

anyway no there’s no proper nice gym like a David Lloyd’s around here, which is one of the reasons why I want to move, there’s not a lot going on!

So how on earth are you so immediately responsive to all these messages? I have had to tell my ND adult son to turn off all notifications during the working day as he just can’t resist immediately responding and it throws his focus

Freshfacet · 01/10/2025 08:10

There’s a hospital opposite you so lots of doctors, consultants, nurses etc… and no half decent gym nearby?

Not with work spaces no! And I love the peloton ecosystem so why would I pay two memberships?

Even when the peloton dies? Then might be time to consider

Your neighbours property on the market for £10k…. Any developments as it’s been on a few weeks now

Then I just buy a new one!
and it’s still in the market with at least one viewing

Oh that’s a bit disappointing!

anyway I’m not going to distract you anymore. You crack on (I have just sent my DS the snake msg! 😆)

you know how circumstances can change very quickly ie being made redundant on the day you exchanged.

Sometime it is better not to spend your life planning for something big and get on with the art of living!

How long have you been in current job?

I set you a challenge..,, if you get that garage conversion sorted in the new year and move in to your new home office and gym…. Come back and post a photo?

That’s unfair. This doesn’t work with my husband. They honestly can’t help it.

I have learned to listen to big plans and if the don’t appeal to me, I just smile and nod. They never come off.

Not really…. 7 years, 3 years, 3 years….

Anything above 2 years is a long tenure within my industry.

so made redundant on exchange and then got a new job 4 months ago?

If London is necessary for you to feel fulfilled in your career…. Does that mean you want to start going in to the office when in London rather than WFH?

Not really as we were existing customers. They offered to put us on a “holiday” which we didn’t take.

We’ve basically cleared it since then.

our mortgage is £300 these days.

But you said you’d paid off your mortgage?
