What do you prefer when buying a house?

I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority group that prefer either houses that are ready to move in or that are liveable for at least 2-3 years. I never buy based on a vision/project/putting my stamp on it.

We’re selling our house in 4 years, and quite frankly as much as it’s liveable for whoever buys it, it does look outdated.

I think we’re already on negative equity, so we think we’ll at least need to refresh the kitchen somehow (and possibly the bathrooms) the question is how much work is it sensible considering we’re selling it? The whole pint of the remedial work would be to sell it faster and not get cheeky offers because to some it might look more like a project than a liveable house.

Why are you getting ND assessment if you don’t think it will have any impact or be any help to you? Did you book this on your own motivation or did someone suggest it to you?

Validation that’s the only thing, and to help me understand my behaviours.

I suspect I have autism, there’s no medication for it, and I don’t need any extra assistance.

I decided to pursue it myself after something clicked in my head and many things started to make sense.

I think it’s very wise

As I say, you deserve a break in life

I agree. Big time.

You have spent “14 years counting down” until you move? Good on you for now trying to carve out the positive. Will hopefully make the next 4x years more pleasant

Freshly done work always puts me off a house. You are essentially paying a premium to live with someone else’s interior design choices. I would so much rather buy something that needs non-immediate work.

Apart from having to be in London for 24hrs for works and the never ending train back, it’s all good! We’ve finally got our new bookcases so we’re slowly moving things to their new home.

Have you converted your garage yet? Are you feeling happier in your home?

No, we decided against but bought a nicer car that makes me a lot happier.

We’ve also decided to give the 18yo room to the 13yo, and I’ll move my office to the 13yo room.

Our living room is now very “cozy” we’ve finally set it up and it’s somewhere where I like to spend my spare time.

We don’t know what we’re going to do next with the house , but considering we’re moving, we don’t think it’s going to be anything super structural.

Where is your 18 year old going?! I didn’t think you could barely fit a bed in that room?

I had hoped you’d have a space to do your work outs and work in peace considering you’re the primary earner and sounded very stressed

Highlightsat8 · 08/02/2026 10:30

And kitchen still very tired?

To uni!

We reckon when he comes back he’d only spend a handful of nights, so I’d be happy to just move around the house during those days, which we think would
be more like “the odd weekend” considering his friends live a lot closer to his DMs house
