It's been 9 horrible months and I find myself looking back on those "eating the cats and dogs" days with nostalgia.

He's busy on AF1

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/09/18/trump-jimmy-kimmel-tv-network-licenses.html

Trump floats pulling licenses if networks are ‘against’ him after Jimmy Kimmel suspended

Straight out of the dictator's playbook. My worry is that after the US/Trump gives legitimacy to this type of behaviour, it spreads to other countries.

I read elsewhere that Kimmel might be back on tv soon, but that might be wishful thinking. I didn't find his comments offensive, but it seems that if a comment isn't full of praise for Kirk, then it's offensive.

CalmShaker · 18/09/2025 20:46

I actually thought it went well, UK - USA relationship strengthened. Major trade and investment announced. And although not a Keir fan, I thought he handled himself and came across well.

I get the impression so many in this thread were hoping it was a disaster to so they can point and laugh at Trump even more. Very odd.

DuncinToffee · 18/09/2025 20:50

I get the impression you do not really read this thread properly @CalmShaker

We stopped laughing at Trump a long time ago.

Post after post regarding Malenia, her hat, her outfit, her visibility etc

MsJinks · 18/09/2025 20:59

So what happened to free speech 🤔
It is spreading to over here already - like all US worse things seem to do.

I’m still laughing at him because if I didn’t laugh I’d sob my heart out. He’s the embodiment of everything that’s wrong with the World and men, the fact the whole sorry state is wrapped up in that ridiculous orange package makes the pill a little easier to swallow and offers some light relief.

What exactly do you like about the man considering you seem to think it’s inappropriate to laugh at him?

CalmShaker · 18/09/2025 21:00

No not at all. Say what you like, I don't get offended :) I was just making an observation

DuncinToffee · 18/09/2025 21:04

Nobody is offending you, I am just wondering what point you are trying to make.

The problem is Trump. Negotiations with him is like walking on glass. I think Starmer and the Royal Family, not a fan of the latter, did an exemplary job on the negotiations but dealing with a fragile ego is stressful. Is it not?

pointythings · 18/09/2025 21:06

I'm also in the 'If I don't laugh, I'll cry' camp. They keep going on about how they have free speech, but now want to shut down whole broadcasting organisations if they say anything critical of Trump and his government.

@CalmShaker how do you reconcile those two things?

I'm just happier every day that my DS decided not to move over there to be with his partner. It's sad that it broke them up, but I am beyond relieved. As a gay person with disabilities, he wouldn't have been safe.

YankTank · 18/09/2025 21:08

PerkingFaintly · 18/09/2025 20:30

Have they gone? Thank god for that.

I'm always terrified something will go pear-shaped while he's here, and we'll catch the fall out. He can go back to being the US's problem. (Sorry, @YankTank et al .)

Don’t worry about me…I have my UK citizenship and have no plans to move back. Nigel Farage, put that in your pipe and smoke it. 🤪

Agreed…the former glamour model, alleged escort, and bona fide gold digger should be held in the highest esteem. She’s the First Lady of my home country and it’s a fucking embarrassment.

PerkingFaintly · 18/09/2025 21:13

Oh if only Farage would vanish in puff of smoke.

(Reference to fairy tales, not violence, I hasten to add.)

I live in USA and UK. I didn't vote for the man I voted for role he said he could deliver on (and has). USA economy is stronger and getting stronger day by day. Unemployment decreasing. Illegal border crossings massively decreased. We have a president who puts the country first. Those are my priorities and if you were to ask if I would swap them for a talker who says nice things but deliver nothing (Starmer) then I certainly wouldn't.

PerkingFaintly · 18/09/2025 21:17

Well there is a crock of shite to start with.
Nearly as much bull shit as Trump comes out with. How many lies were fact checked by channel 4 last night?

Talkinpeace · 18/09/2025 21:18

Trump is the absolute definition of
"ooh look a squirrel"
but with a vile vindictive streak
that allows vicious authoritarians to pull his puppet strings

DuncinToffee · 18/09/2025 21:18

Ah, OK

You voted for a man who thinks women are worth nothing, has a history of rape and sexual assault, who actively encouraged political violence on Jan 6th and who was close friends with a known child molester (if not one himself…) I don’t understand how anyone could get past those things.

That’s interesting, because unemployment was 4% when Trump was sworn in last January and the most recent statistics are 4.3%, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. www.bls.gov/charts/employment-situation/civilian-unemployment-rate.htm

As said, I voted on what the man can deliver not the man.

I'm just giving my opinion. You are welcome to yours. I'll say no more.

Well the man is doing a great job delivering on general geopolitical chaos, far right extremism, xenophobia, homophobia, racism, sexism and general authoritarianism so hoping that’s what you voted for…
