A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

Oh wow @Mumtobabyhavoc! What great pictures. It sounds like a lovely ( and energetic) evening!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/11/2025 08:12

FourSeasonsLobelia · 01/11/2025 08:03

Halloween was a wash out here too. Hoping to go to an early Bonfire night tonight though.

I think I also missed out on the Christmas gene. TBF though when I was growing up, we had a very tricky difficult relationship with my mother's family and Christmas was truly genuinely traumatic. When I was about 15 my dad refused to 'do Christmas' ever again- he's stuck to that too and I'm 52 now.

We have a nice and quiet time at home nowadays so that's nicer.

That sounds awful. 💐
I'm glad you've made up for it though and you enjoy calm Christmases now.
I'm sort of the same. I like a nice dinner, but it doesn't have to be the traditional turkey. I cook up a combo of things I typically cook, but with a dessert or two we don't usually have. I changed it up last year and we did ice cream sundaes for dessert and it was the Best. Thing. Ever. 😛

petalpower · 01/11/2025 10:41

I should look at the emojis as well as read the words @Peridot1 ! I imagined you in a cottage or house in or close by to Hampton Court.
Beautiful day here so I’ve washed the dog bed covers and blankets. They get extra filthy at this time of year. I’ve also washed and adjusted junior dog’s harness as it was looking a little snug and uncomfortable.
Have a lovely day everyone!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/11/2025 18:05

Petal, I think we all imagine each other living a certain way. I imagine all of you in lovely, well-appointed, country and city homes. Please, don't burst my bubble.

WinterFrogs · 01/11/2025 20:58

There's nothing well appointed about my home @Mumtobabyhavoc. Very sorry to disappoint! I have an image of you all in my head though. Probably not accurate, though I did get @petalpower's dogs about right. I know I've said it before but I do like these little snapshots of daily life. And compared to some posts elsewhere on the forum ( well aibu) everyone seems really quite normal!

Things didn't really go to plan today as I had to deal with a work situation this morning which pushed errands back to this afternoon. So I didn't get my usual Saturday solitude. I'm trying to maintain little things around the house. Sinks and toilet clean, a laudry load done, changed bedding, wiped down a couple of shelves. The kitchen floor is a bit grimy so I will do that first thing tomorrow.

Just off for a bubbly bath now.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 01/11/2025 21:07

Our Victorian house is mostly filled with furniture DH inherited from his grandparents. So all Mahogany. And clutter and faded turkish rugs, and very ancient ferns in porcelain pots on stands. It's exceptionally traditional and over the past 25 years it has become my taste, more or less. Perhaps because the horse has bolted on that score. My preferred bent is more Scandi fresh and bare and clean wood and white paint.

No dogs here currently sadly- just a couple of cats. Who naturally rule the roost.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 01/11/2025 21:10

The first picture is very much like our sitting room except that the walls are a pale grey and our sofas are emerald green. (Oh, and the room is smaller!)

malleryhall.com/victorian-interior-design-ideas/

FourSeasonsLobelia · 01/11/2025 21:16

Our sofa is a William Morris print from the early 1970s. I hated it when i first moved in, but DH said although it was a bit naff then the fashion would come around again.

It did, in the end. I quite like it now. But I still make extensive and liberal use of throw rugs.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 01/11/2025 22:13

Hello, lots of good chat going on here! I'm just flying by to say we also enjoyed some good trick or treating with D's school friends, and fireworks tonight. We have friends over for the weekend with their children (who are a bit older than mine) and are lovely, but yesterday required lots of zooming around the house to make it presentable 😅

I have to say I am glad half term is over...

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 01/11/2025 22:13

Oh and remember I sent off my passport application? The new passport already came to me last week!! I couldn't believe it!

WinterFrogs · 02/11/2025 06:00

I meant to ask how your prep for your guests was going @SingleThreadJoiner2 ! It sounds like a lot of .fun 😊

I've morphed into someone my 30 year old self wouldn't recognise. I always had a bhouseful, with kids in and out all day. Loved it when my friends dropped in. I don't think any of us considered the chaos! I think we all thrived on it. Home is a place of calm now, even when littlest is here ( more or less!) and I tend to meet friends outside. I'm not sure how it happened really. Maybe I've just come over all grandparenty.

That was quick with the passport! 🥳

@FourSeasonsLobelia I do love the look and cosy feel of Victorian homes 😍 I bet yours is very welcoming! I'm just looking around here and realise that apart from two beds, literally everything here just stuff passed on from family and friends. I don't think I'd know where to start if I was left to choose. We have one print on the wall that I chose. DH moved into my house and brought some bits with him which he inherited ( also dark wood) I aspire to be a minimalist and left to my own devices there's still a lot I'd get rid of.

I feel an autumn declutter coming on!

WinterFrogs · 03/11/2025 05:45

I've been waking up ridiculously early since the clocks changed. 4.15am today.
I've put a wash on and mopped the kitchen floor, done my stretches and puzzles and now got my nose in a book. I'll get dinner prepped before I go out this morning.

Emptied the shredder ✔️
Wrapped up a birthday present ✔️ ( must also get a card)

15 more minutes with my book I think, then I can shower and dress as dh will be awake.

I hope you all have a great week 💗

mumofoneAloneandwell · 03/11/2025 12:26

Hey everyone

Caught glimpses of the thread, i love hearing about your lives and i do picture you all 🥰 - @FourSeasonsLobelia your place sounds cool and full of treasures! I can imagine the smell of polished wood and books.

My other thread re concern is still going, please keep us in your prayers.

Today is just trying to not gorge on sweets and to do a bit of reading - Salinger, catcher in the rye

Love to you all ❤️❤️

WinterFrogs · 04/11/2025 06:50

Hello everyone! I haven't seen your other thread @mumofoneAloneandwell but you have touched on some family difficulties here so I just want to send a cyber hug and tea and biscuits ☕️

Catcher In The Rye - is that one that is an English Lit text? A friend of mine studied it at an evening class and there's a passage that sounds nothing like sex but is actually all about sex because it needed euphemisms in the time it was written. Or something...This is why poor little literal me could not cope at all with English Lit A Level. I just wanted to read the damn books without some knobhead teacher telling be what the long dead author actually meant. Anyway, I digress - I'm older and wiser now and the reasons behind English Lit lessons make sense to me now. Am a very late developer with some regret about abandoning my A Levels.

I met a spiritdoggo type dog yesterday and thought of you @SpiritOfEdna ♥️

I have a day of meetings and emails and phone calls today. It will be a long one but luckily I caught up on my sleep last night. A more reasonable 6am today.

I need to polish my work shoes. Does anyone here not iron much but use one of those steam things ( advertised on mn) for dealing with the occasional item that must be ironed? That would be more me ( if it worked)

I must go and do something useful. Best wishes to all 💐

FourSeasonsLobelia · 04/11/2025 07:00

Morning all.

Hugs to you @mumofoneAloneandwell ❤❤❤

I have Catcher in the Rye on my nightstand ready for reading! It's been there a while though.....

I am an ironer here @WinterFrogs . Never tried a steamer. I am one of those sad people who like ironing.

I have a life admin day today. Taxes to sort and letters to write.

Hope everyone has a good day. Thanks

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/11/2025 09:34

It's 1:30am and I've just finished washing the kitchen floor. I have been very dissatisfied with my cleaning method and the floors just are not getting clean.
So, I went old school.
Folded towel under my knees; gloves, hot water with dish soap and a micro-fibre cloth. I scrubbed in the direction of the grain. NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE.
I have a feeling I'll need pain meds for my wrists tomorrow though. 😬

Peridot1 · 04/11/2025 10:54

Hello all. Just had a lovely time catching up on the thread.

Your house sounds lovely @FourSeasonsLobelia. Warm and welcoming and comfortable. As does yours @WinterFrogs.

Ours is a new build. Big and boxy really. I think I’m a bit schizophrenic with regards to styles I like! I like lots of different styles. Our previous house was Edwardian which I loved.

I got back from Ireland yesterday. Had a lovely time. There was a big Halloween festival on in the town my sister lives in. Lots going on including a big parade on Saturday evening. Some pretty scary looking exhibits!

I have done nothing yet for Christmas but as it’s just us three and we are going away on 27th we are not going mad anyway. I do tend to go overboard with decorating but not until December. I got myself totally overwhelmed by it last year so have said I’m going to strip it all back this year. And yet I still managed to buy a few new Christmas decorations and table linen while I was away…..

Hope you are feeling better @Mumtobabyhavoc. Your pumpkin family looked really good.

I have come back to a slightly chaotic feeling house so planning a good clean and tidy and sort out. I feel a list coming on.

Today -

  • Dishwasher- done
  • laundry - one load done and hung up, contemplating another but probably don’t have space to hang it really
  • clean kitchen tops
  • vacuum
  • wash floors
  • start washing down kitchen units/doors

Have a good day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 04/11/2025 15:50

Afternoon just had a birthday so no project work for me - although I have just messaged someone about rebuilding our (small) front wall. It's shared though so don't know how that would work. SpiritDoggo had a walk with a new dog on Sunday - a beautiful Saluki am not sure she was overly impressed being chased everywhere she did stick close to me although 😄 Also, just done the car hire for our annual Cornwall trip.

Loving all the house descriptions we are a narrow and long terrace.

I best post this I've already had to change my Morning to afternoon, will post before it has to become evening, have a good one and I'll have a good read back to see what I have missed, SoE

WinterFrogs · 04/11/2025 16:39

Nothing like a good list is there @Peridot1? I remember you getting a bit overwhelmed at Christmas last year - hope you can keep it a bit simpler this time round!

@Mumtobabyhavoc i think that's the only way to keep a floor really clean. I hope your wrists aren't too painful when you get up. I expect you are up, looking at the time.

@FourSeasonsLobelia I am really not an ironer but can see the appeal. I'm just delighted if the laundry gets washed, dried, folded and put away. We know when I'm getting stressed about anything in this house, because the putting away is the first thing to go. If I need soothing I sort out and fold drawers the Marie Kondo way. Which also saves on the ironing that I don't do. Much.

I achieved my meetings and phone calls, and dinner is leftovers + oven chips. I'm intending to have a very peaceful evening and an early night. Day off tomorrow and I have a big old potter about planned.

Big hugs to all!

WinterFrogs · 05/11/2025 05:54

Your birthday, @SpiritOfEdna ? Happy belated birthday if so 🎂 Salukis are gorgeous 😍

5am today 😩 And woke up with a headache but it's gone now. I've been following a local photographer on FB and being all inspired about local walks. I'd like to get back into the habit of proper walks.

I used to walk miles alone but it doesn't feel as safe without a dog.

The garden needs some attention today. I think short bursts out there would be a plan. And I have just wiped sticky finger marks off the fridge door.

I hope you all have a lovely day 💗

petalpower · 05/11/2025 16:55

You must be exhausted after your early waking @WinterFrogs !
The days continue to whizz by, time is moving faster and faster - must be my age!
Today I’ve:

  • menu planned for the weekend (we have a load of friends staying) and for next week and made the corresponding shopping lists
  • read and reviewed documents for a trustee meeting next week
  • met my lovely antenatal class friends for lunch (25 years and we’re still going strong!)
  • given senior dog lots of TLC as she’s not well and needed chicken and rice cooking
  • posted my Fitbit back as it died yesterday after less than two years - Amazon have agreed a full refund
  • bath towels and bed linen washed and line dried
mumofoneAloneandwell · 05/11/2025 18:52

Home for the night with dd and dcat and feeling very blessed - hoping we can see some fireworks from out bedroom window!

My love to you all, will catch up on the thread properly later this week ❤️❤️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/11/2025 19:40

Petal, I also had good customer service from Amazon today. They are picking up a toy I bought for Havoc and refunding me even though the return window closed two weeks ago. I then called Kraft about a cream cheese that was off and they are mailing me a coupon to re-purchase. So, 2 for 2 today. 🥳

Excellent news Mumofone! 🩷🩷🩷

Bedding washed and in the dryer. Have tested smoke alarms. Made pancakes today. Had orange juice, coffee and a fruit plate as well. It was a nice mid-week start to the day which is grey and rainy, although warmer at 12c.
Did a load of laundry last night which is dry now and can be put away today.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/11/2025 00:21

Got errands done and back home before a little storm blew through. It gave us this:

Daily Project round 8
WinterFrogs · 06/11/2025 06:58

I am a bit weary @petalpower and I'm very tempted to take my amitriptyline as I sleep so much better with it, and it helps with morning headache from jaw clenching.
I agree that time seems to fly by as you get older.
Poor old senior dog. I hope s/he feels better soon!

@mumofoneAloneandwell 💐

What a view @Mumtobabyhavoc!

Started this last night, did take the medication and did sleep through till my sunrise alarm flickered on. So feeling all refreshed 😁

Got a phone appt with GP at last. I was using the wrong app - they have their own, not the one that's on the nhs app, even though you have to go via the nhs app. Which sounds as complicated as it felt.

I hope you all have a good day 😘
