At dinner tonight we got to discuss if there are any jobs you can ONLY hold in London

So say manager of the Shard doesnt count as you can be a building manager elsewhere

You can be mayor of another city so again doesn't count

We are looking specifically for a job that cannot exist in a slightly different form in another place.

So far we have

Are there others?

Would a black cab driver count?

Finance and a lot of law - especially more corporate/ business law

No, all big UK cities have black cabs.

A lot of public affairs roles are only London based because you need easy access to Westminster.

Yes, it doesn’t fit the strict criteria of physically not possible to be performed elsewhere.

It is definitely a niche in London though, takes 2/5 years to qualify etc, memorising the whole of the city.

In her final years Queen Elizabeth II barely lived in London. She lived in Windsor.

There's a Black Rod in Canada. I think almost every job has a comparable elsewhere (lots of Prime Ministers for eg).

You can be king elsewhere. Like Denmark, Norway,Sweden, Spain and Netherlands all have a king

We discussed the black cab drivers I think it is a half pount as they do exist elsewhere but a Glasgow one could not go to London and work and visa versa.

While I liked the Lloyds underwriter. You can be a underwriter elsewhere.

We did discuss some bank of England roles must be London specific..

I think Glasgow still has an underground train system.

All of these can be done anywhere in the world / UK.

But all of those jobs would exist in New York and Paris too wouldn't they
