It’s appalling that MPs are subjected to this kind of abuse. Not particularly surprising though when you look at what’s allowed to stand on some of the threads here.

I am calling out the double standards regarding freedom of movement and racism and some poster is hoping for me to be banned so I if am zapped been nice knowing you all!

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/aug/24/kemi-badenoch-hysterical-level-personal-attacks-as-black-woman

Kemi Badenoch has spoken openly about the racism she has suffered as the first black woman to lead the Conservative party.

Yet she’s one of the Tory’s in power who put asylum seekers in hotels and is now encouraging councils to appeal their use.

The party has totally lost its way from the One Nations who were quite centric and had some decent MPs.

Certainly the media are keen for violence - it photographs well and sells copy.
And now that they have journalists and photographers in place I am sure it is very disappointing for editors to have little to show for it.
Then there is the paid for rabble rousers who have spent all summer talking about tinderbox doomed Britain. Alison Pearson said she was hoping for a coup this summer. Twat.

Allison. Allison Pearson

Piggywaspushed · 25/08/2025 13:10

I just saw a Stop The Boats / No Asylum Seekers picture in the paper which included a weaponised cute girl in full Union Flag splendour, clutching a Paddington.

Is she aware at all of how Paddington got to London and what he is????

'Please look after this bear'
'No not that one'

First proper sunshine we've had in over a week so I'm feeling generous enough to pay extra tax.

Of course you correct Gandersash.
Apologies to any Alison Pearson out there (assuming they aren't also writing about hoping for a coup)

Those people who think Blunkett supports leaving the EHCR haven’t looked at what he’s said carefully enough. He recommends suspending some, not all, articles temporarily - a period of three or six months is suggested - while the processing backlog is cleared and the number of appeals is reduced.

tbf i did say "suspension" from ECHR... to hear a Blairite say this, for whatever reason, how ever temporary is amazing, it wont be temp either.

R4 talked about Labs plans on panels etc to clear backlogs, will be 2 years before anything is even set up.... legislation, not enough lawyers to do the work... appeals will keep the back log high.

France/EU, unless they want a Reform led UK, need to do a better job on their side.

DuncinToffee · 25/08/2025 14:00

The UK decided it was better off outside the EU, can't rally expect them to now bail the UK out.

It's obvious we need closer ties with the EU to tackle these issues.

Of course but atm we are heading for at the very least a ConReform Govt.

4 years is of course a lifetime but it will not be in the EUs interests for that to happen.

...le alone ours!

fwiw i cannot believe the anti immigrant anti Starmer/labour i hear constantly, it's very sad, the Tories have done a great job but they are not the beneficiaries.

They certainly shout the loudest.

It's only when you start asking questions that they go rather quiet.

I have a rather nice SM bubble, incl football fans, that have no time for the Reform flagshaggers.

I disagree. Look at the teeny tiny turnout on the mass protests and how they are vastly outnumbered by the counter protests.

On here, it's a few very prolific users that appear to name change every few weeks to make it seem that the numbers are higher, that post whatever reform bollocks is being pushed at the time.

I think the media are over egging them.

LlttledrummergirI · 25/08/2025 14:43

My dh is in a football groups, and they also don't have time for this nationalism.

The Populist Right is getting wound up because Sayeeda Warsi has said St George was from Turkey.

Apparently, he can't be from Turkey because Turkey didn't exist back then. He was only from the place that became Turkey. Righty-ho. That's Warsi told, I guess.

It would be interesting to punt a policy that rejoining the EU will fix the small boats crisis. Would put a lot of people on the back foot where they don't like it up them.

We've seen with Brexit that facts aren't an issue. Just say it's the only way and do it. If anyone disagrees they obviously aren't serious about solving the problem.

It should be quite easy to get the French to pretend to raise merry hell over the which should get it over the line with a lot of the less bright racists. (If that's not a tautology ....)

i hope you re right but polling says otherwise, 71% think Starmer is handling x ch v badly.

Yes of course the migrant hotels protestors are tiny. i agree.

But its a mistake to think this is not a major issue for voters.

Media influences people's views, overall immigration down but 8% rise in boat crossings dominate the headlines.

I expect the news will be all over Farage's mass deportation plan the coming week.

Ofcourse neither Reform or Conservatives will handle the crossings any better

Oh yes but marketing works whether we like it or not & we have a tory biased media.

Farage is copying Trump, just needs to add a bit of orange
