FT has an article on wealthy UAE residents buying prime London property .

Foreigners buying houses, protests ahead?

But we’re constantly told there’s an exodus of wealth out of the UK.

Sorry, what’s your point?

But we’re constantly told there’s an exodus of wealth out of the UK.

You are aware of the non-dom reforms, I hope.

You can therefore see why that would not be a fair comparison?

That has already been debunked in the same way as the other exodus.

Telegraph is still trying, mind.

Is there a Godwin's law type equivalent wherein within -oooh- about 6 posts about flags, someone reveals their homophobia?

DuncinToffee · 25/08/2025 10:10

A great many more people protested the plight of Sheffield Wednesday this month than have attended any protest against asylum hotels

Media is whipping up a frenzy.

Yes apparently a lot of this “information” comes from Henley & Partners whose chairman is known as the Passport King. A lot of their money comes from acquiring passports for their wealthy clients for six figure sums. I’ve just read a book about the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia and they are at the bottom of a lot of the corruption she exposed in Malta.

Notonthestairs · 25/08/2025 10:15

Certainly the media are keen for violence - it photographs well and sells copy.
And now that they have journalists and photographers in place I am sure it is very disappointing for editors to have little to show for it.
Then there is the paid for rabble rousers who have spent all summer talking about tinderbox doomed Britain. Alison Pearson said she was hoping for a coup this summer. Twat.

From this morning’s Times. Another “concerned citizen”.

A young Tommy Robinson supporter who is banned from being within 200 metres of asylum hotels led a large anti-migrant protest on Sunday as other demonstrations continued across the country.

The man in his twenties was charged with a racially aggravated public order offence after allegedly calling migrants “foreign filth” and leaving hotel residents “in fear of violence”, police said.

He has since helped to organise a march attended by hundreds of people from a pub in Norwich to another hotel which saw participants set off smoke flares and chant “deport, deport, deport!”

Notonthestairs · 25/08/2025 10:24

I hadn't heard of the Chevening Scholars program before but it has some impressive alumni.

BIWI · 25/08/2025 10:25

How awful and how frightening it must be for those poor people, escaping from war/torture/persecution etc, thinking that they would be safe here, to have to face such a violent mob.

Is this the same chap that was prosecuted for racial aggravation against some teenagers at a Norwich City match and subsequently banned?

Evenstar · 25/08/2025 10:53

Just been out and someone has painted the mini roundabout at the end of our road 🤮

It is so odd how so many Rayner haters can't even spell her name correctly.

Doesn't help the Google algorithms. And right now ChatGPT and Deepseek are convinced they are two separate women. Diluting the bile.

Don't call them stupid.

Oh yes, you mean the 50 Taxpayers paying billions of tax leaving the UK!

No idea. You’d hope there weren’t two.

SerendipityJane · 25/08/2025 11:10

Why am I remembering dear Oscar ?

The only thing worse than being talked about is being talked across.

My goodness.

Are you able to understand capital flight, behavioural economics, and tax mitigation?

All of which have a negative impact on the public purse.

Oh the irony ! The irony !

All racism (even MN racism) is disgusting and despicable. However I don't think this is a problem she will have as leader of the Conservative party for much longer. There will soon be a white man along to make it all better.

BIossomtoes · 25/08/2025 11:59

It’s appalling that MPs are subjected to this kind of abuse. Not particularly surprising though when you look at what’s allowed to stand on some of the threads here.

SerendipityJane · 25/08/2025 12:10

The Tory party has been polishing it's dogwhistle since Theresa May. For St. Kemi to be caught in the fire really is a case of being hoist with ones own petard.

You can trace a direct line from the Hostile Environment through Boris bantz and Jenrick acting like a low rent Popeye to where we are today. And St. Kemi was cheering it all on from the sidelines.

Bottom line (shamelessly nicked) if you fly with crows, you will get shot.

SerendipityJane · 25/08/2025 12:25

Here's one pensioner who didn't need the WFA.

As the first commentator said, More wanksy than Banksy.
