I’ve redecorated my sitting room and I’m really happy 😊

Moved into the house after my divorce 3 years ago, and it’s taking me forever to redo it and generally make it feel like home. Combo of lack of time/money/being arsed 😁. But I’ve had a week off work while the DCs are at their dad’s house and I’ve repainted the sitting room at last! It was very drab before, and I feel like I’ve added some personality. Maybe not to everyone’s taste but I’m happy and just wanted to share!

It's feels incredible when it's done doesn't it. Our living room for ages was back to bare plaster. I preferred it to the previous owners tastes of white under the dao rail and gun metal grey above. Every time I sat on the sofa I felt like the room was closing on me. It was really depressive.

Recently moved in to a rental after separating from exp and it's still feeling a bit blank

It’s the best feeling isn’t it! We need a photo! I have almost finished a whole house from scratch.. had going keeping motivated but the reward is a lovely home for me and my boys 🥰

ive had a couple of hospitalisations etc & other genuine reasons. But its been plastered
for lots longer than you!

We're renting at the moment while we look for somewhere to buy. Our apartment is grey and white, so bland.

I cannot wait to have my own place to decorate!

Oh I still like grey, & I like white, but I'd hate white on the bottom & grey above the dado. I removed all the dado rails (as well as skirtings/coving & doors - all before I got ill 🙇🏻‍♀️)

I haven't asked about painting tbh it's only a 2 year lease and then we will be buying elsewhere so I dont want to paint and then have to paint it back!

Living room is typical rental magnolia so I'm going with neutral colours for soft furnishings etc might do some burnt orange bits in to autumn

Well done, look forward to seeing the photos, once MN has approved them. The trouble is that whilst painting isn’t too hard, I find preparation, clearing and putting stuff back so time consuming. My adult DS moved out in February, we’ve half cleared it, but can’t muster up the enthusiasm to redecorate it.

Some landlords will let you paint as long as you do it another neutral colour , like white / light gray / beige. They are usually scared of tenants using some crazy colour that they have to repaint.

Lol I had dado put up! 😅 The walls were just all plain magnolia and I wanted to make them look more elegant so got some white dado rail up and put some intricately patterned wallpaper underneath and it looks hundred times better!

While I’m waiting for the photos to be approved, thought I’d share the paint colours. I used Little Greene Loft White, and Farrow and Ball Green Smoke. As I was painting over a white wall I needed 3 coats of the F&B, used a full 2.5 litre tin and half of another one. I had to do quite a bit of filling and sanding but not too much stripping thank goodness

I’m really pleased with mine. My circumstances arent like yours, but we have various barriers to getting things done and I’m really pleased to have got there!

If anyone’s looking for ideas, I highly recommend a dark wall behind the TV. It’s so much tidier than it was!
