Desperately seeking that Peace Prize.
May have to settle for the Hero of the Russian Federation award. Bigly sad.

How legitimate is it for the central government to seize control of a state's infrastructure? Or is DC not a state so he can get away with it?

Might is right.

Drumpf doesn't care about legalities, as we know.
D.C. isn't a state and has no governor or senators. Just represented by a single Congress person who can't vote on the floor of the House. It does have an elected mayor and city council now (set up during Nixon's administration) but they don't have full autonomy.

Can Trump invoke a federal takeover of DC? Experts say it’s possible, but not simple.

After a DOGE employee was beaten in an attempted carjacking in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump threatened to “federalize” the district. What does it mean to federalize, and can he do that?

A great summary of why Gavin Newsom is working.

Trump has assumed full federal control of Washington DC's Union Station and has taken it over from Amtrak.

Does that make 🍊🌮 the Fat Controller?

I am slightly disappointed that no one has yet changed their name by deed poll to "Epstein Files" as they start a US wide tour.

An utter tragedy, but it will barely register, as with the other 286 mass shootings so far in the USA during 2025.

Has he got round to demanding pay per view televised executions yet? It's on the list.

The US troops are busy litter picking in DC

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 27/08/2025 19:08

Oh come on now. This is so far beyond a joke, I can’t take any more. The man’s a complete raving lunatic. He needs to be locked away for the sake of the country. Why is the USA sleep-walking its way into a hereditary dictatorship?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 27/08/2025 19:53

Blimey, and also stun a stoat sideways. Is that actually the Mirror? The redtop? Or is it some other paper of the same name?

"The unhinged US President has deployed uniformed troops in some of the city's most iconic landmarks, justifying the militarisation by repeatedly lying about crime rates being "the worst ever"."

That is rather more straight-talking that I expect from the print media. As is them talking about "Trump's antics".

I think Trump is expecting them to start raping, torturing and murdering civilians, like the troops his friend Putin has sent into Ukraine.

logicisall · 27/08/2025 20:09

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom The fear of Trump's power, spite and vindictiveness is real. As is the abundance of apologists.

Spandauer · 27/08/2025 21:03

Vanity Fair staffers threaten to walk out over a proposed Melania cover: “We are not going to normalize this despot and his wife… if this happens, i’m gone, and so is half my team.”

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom The fear of Trump's power, spite and vindictiveness is real. As is the abundance of apologists.

I’m clearly extremely naive, politically, but surely at this point, there should be enough recognition of, and disgust with, Trump’s narcissistic delusions of grandeur and his self-serving behaviour at the cost of the country, for a formidable political/legal opposition to have gathered from all sides, to put together a peaceful coup which puts him in prison for treason and bringing the Constitution into disrepute? At which point he would have no power, though the spite and vindictiveness would remain.
Would that there were more like the the Congresswoman in Texas who resisted being bullied by the GOP, or the people at Vanity Fair who refuse to normalize a despot, or the Trump-appointed judge in Maryland who threw out "an unusual lawsuit the Trump administration filed against every federal judge in Maryland over an order slowing down efforts to swiftly deport people it believes are in the country illegally.” https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/trump-appointed-judge-rebukes-doj-calamitous-lawsuit-against-maryland-judges-2025-08-26/

Surely these are not lone figures in the wilderness?

Oh, yes, and why is the Minneapolis school shooting yesterday almost out of the headlines already, and the main takeway from it not being about the need for gun control, but blaming the shooter for being trans?

logicisall · 28/08/2025 05:54

there should be enough recognition of, and disgust with, Trump’s narcissistic delusions of grandeur and his self-serving behaviour at the cost of the country,

There lies the problem. The combination of MAGA supporters plus the just 'concerned' , outweighs the people who recognise the force for evil and disruption that Trump is.

Trump's success is based on how people are willing to ignore everything else and support him when they might only agree with him on one point.

@logicisall: I have huge trouble accepting that you are right in what you say. Not that I think you are wrong, it’s more disbelief at the sheer stupidity of people.

logicisall · 28/08/2025 08:01

My concern is that the stupidity is spreading globally! Trump is emboldening far right/authoritarian politicians everywhere. Many ordinary people who are anti-Trump are choosing to keep their political and moral thoughts private to avoid fights with family/friends/colleagues, so it is heartening to see people in power dissent.

After a close family member indicated their support for Trump we no longer discuss politics, but I'll never fully trust them again.

Serpentstooth · 28/08/2025 08:10

Horrific just it ? It's as if their brains gave been sucked out and replaced with a Bigly brain, or what passes for it these days. I suppose its the constant reinforcement of the mad stuff by media/social media. Look at the prominence given to Farage's agitating over the past few days. It appears he's already PM. Him and his small collection of poodles. Utterly shameful.
