Desperately seeking that Peace Prize.
May have to settle for the Hero of the Russian Federation award. Bigly sad.

Still dancing the Tariff Tango, Vlad and Bibi still playing him like a fiddle and Epstein's list must be written in invisible ink - Trump thread #146 | Mumsnet

Here is Vance demonstrating once again that he knows fuck all, 'unconditional surrender' ring a bell, JD?

https://bsky.app/profile/atrupar.com/post/3lx5ofw74hw2o

JD Vance: "This is how wars ultimately get settled. If you go back to World War 2, if you go back to every major conflict in human history, they all end with some kind of negotiation."

Hitler committing suicide in a bunker and Allied soldiers (including US) taking Berlin.

Yep, sounds like a negotiated settlement to me.

That helicopter on the roof the US Embassy in Saigon: also a negotiated settlement.

PerkingFaintly · 24/08/2025 19:06

He's the canonical example of the maxim, "Better to remain silent and have people suspect you're a fool, than to open your mouth and confirm it."

Meanwhile I had a slight snigger at the fact that defendants used Judge Cannons ruling on Jack Smith (that he wasn't proper as he wasn't appointed by the Senate) to dismiss Alina Habba from AG of New Jersey

@llizzie I think we were at the stage you're now at, several threads ago. The only way Ghislaine is going to get her freedom is if Trump pardons her, but MAGATs seem to draw the line at her & Epstein's 'paedophilia' activities.

MAGATs are mainly still in the thrall of master of the dark arts Trump, while the ones with some doubts are ensnared in a spent cost mentality. Things only change when they experience a personal "Leopards ate my face" moment.

Putin went to Alaska because he knew he had the most to gain from the optics - while dumbass Trump thought that he would come across as a Nobel-worthy peace maker.

I'm not convinced that our gov't's appeasement approach is the right one, and hate it that EU leaders think that flattering Trump is the way forward, but who knows? The Trump administration is mendacious, dangerous and bad for both the US and the world but he does hold many cards as the leader of the world's largest economy .

As always, the mocking mirror of comedians leads the way in showing how truly awful Trump and his sycophants are.

I just might subscribe to South Park now. 😈

What's all that to do with the Owl and the Pussycat poem? Why mention Ghislaine ? Who would she be?

I don't condone what she was accused of, but I think to some extent she was her father's puppet.

There might be a Trump link with her father.Robert Maxwell, but he's dead. He had fingers everywhere, so it might not be as impossible as it seems..

countrygirl99 · 25/08/2025 05:27

Robert Maxwell died 34 years ago so they'd have to be very long fingers.

Maybe just me so I apologise if so but I’m not clear what the Owl and the Pussycat has to do with the thread?

My post wasn't in response to the poem, as if it had been, I would have included the quote. I thought my post would help you to understand the room. Clearly, it failed.

I always remember this being rediculed at the time as a new American tactic - Declare victory and evacuate!

Serpentstooth · 25/08/2025 11:37

After several attempts at explanation by assorted well-meaning posters, I think it can not longer be assumed to be lack of understanding. To what purpose, who knows.

The minimising of what that woman did is sickening.

Supporting of paedophiles, sex traffickers and abusers.

Vile.

Spotted at a transport rally in Sunderland, today. No idea whether it's satire or an expression of admiration but it did make us snigger.

Cap'n Bob did try to launch a paper in new York in the 1980's at a time when trump was up and coming. I think iirc there were some union/ mob linked sabotage which might have brought him into contact with Trump's mentor Roy cohn.

Ha, just done a search on Google and this Grok post has come up

Robert Maxwell beat all his children and they were raised in an abusive home where brutal humiliation by Daddy Maxwell was par for the course. A schoolfriend of Ghislaine, both then 10 years old, was invited into her bedroom in Headington Manor and commented on the layout of her dressing table where a neat assembly of hairbrush, a strap, a slipper and other implements was laid out "this is what Daddy uses to beat me with. He allows me to choose which one I want". Someone raised in such circumstances is going to have a view of 'everyday life' and acceptable behaviour that differs wildly from the majority. She may be a victim but is also a perpetrator warped by her upbringing. Her word is completely untrustworthy.

Yes there's a John Sweeney podcast on her that mentioned that.

Maxwell also pursued the daughter of the owner of (iirc) the telegraph that he was trying to acquire and in effect groomed her

Yes, the above account comes from her, she was the schoolfriend.

SerendipityJane · 25/08/2025 15:30

It's probably been sanitized beyond belief, but there was certainly a rumour that Robert Maxwell was a willing participant the Czech division of the SS.

Who remembers Don Draper ?
