⚡️ Poland asks NATO to activate Article 4 (https://kyivindependent.com/poland-asks-nato-to-invoke-article-4-over-russian-drone-incursion/) over Russian drone incursion.
Article 4 of the NATO treaty allows member states to request consultations with the allies if they believe their security has been threatened, without triggering a military response.

⚡️ Trump sees no reason (kyivindependent.com/trump-sees-no-reason-to-economically-isolate-russia-outside-war-in-ukraine/) to economically isolate Russia outside war in Ukraine, Vance says.
Once a settlement is reached, Washington could have "a very productive economic relationship" with both Kyiv and Moscow, U.S. Vice President JD Vance said.

⚡️ In first for NATO (kyivindependent.com/nato-jets-scrambled-as-poland-reacts-to-suspected-russian-drones-during-strikes-on-ukraine/), Poland downs Russian drones amid mass attack on Ukraine.
As the Polish military confirmed that the aerial objects were shot down, the incident marks what is believed to be the first direct engagement by a NATO member against Russian assets in its own airspace since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said the country’s military “has used weapons against the targets.”

Former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock officially heads the UN General Assembly. She replaces former Cameroonian Prime Minister Philemon Yang. Baerbock will chair the sessions and shape the agenda, including during the general debate in late September.

There are signs that the drones flew into Poland not by accident, but intentional, says EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.

"My message to Putin is clear: stop the war in Ukraine. Stop escalating the war. Stop violating allied airspace. And know that we are ready to defend every inch of NATO territory,” NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte told a briefing in Brussels.

NATO has invoked Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty following a Russian drone strike on Polish territory, Polish government spokesman Adam Szłapka said.
Article 4 provides for joint consultations among member states when they believe the territorial integrity, political independence, or security of any member is under threat.

A Russian drone likely damaged the roof of a residential building and a vehicle in eastern Poland overnight, media reported.
The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces added that the Royal Netherlands Air Force, with its F-35 fighter jets, helped destroy the drones.

“If swarms of Shaheds are heading toward France, Sweden, the Baltic States—what do we do?” As Russia’s drones batter Ukraine’s skies, experts warn that Europe’s air defenses may be unprepared for such mass drone and missile attacks.

Hungary has signed a 10-year gas supply deal with Shell, taking one of the first steps to diversify and reduce its dependence on Russian supplies amid an EU deadline to phase out Russian energy.
According to Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, supplies will reach Hungary via Czech and German gas pipelines starting in 2026.
“We are negotiating several more contracts with other Western suppliers, but are not yet ready to announce them,” he added.
The EU plans to completely stop importing Russian gas by the end of 2027

The European Parliament has called on EU member states to open negotiating clusters on Ukraine’s membership as soon as possible.
They also believe that Ukraine should prioritize reforms for EU accession.
MEPs call on Kyiv to maintain this reform momentum. They stress the importance of transparent and merit-based selection processes for judicial and anti-corruption bodies and call on Ukraine to step up reforms in the areas of the rule of law and public administration, as well as anti-corruption measures, the resolution says.
The European Parliament has called for the opening of negotiating clusters to advance Ukraine’s application for EU membership as quickly as possible, “subject to Ukraine’s continued implementation of EU legislation and the completion of reforms already underway.”

🇺🇦🇵🇱 Ukraine is ready to help Poland build a proper warning and defense system against Russian threats, President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote.
He stressed that Ukraine can also provide Poland with the necessary data on this Russian strike. According to the president, more and more evidence points to the deliberate nature and direction of Russia’s drone attacks.
Zelensky recalled that earlier incidents involved individual Russian drones crossing the border for short distances into neighboring countries. But now the scale and targeting are much greater.

I thought that @ReleaseTheDucksOfWar

perhaps the Penny has started to drop for Orban that Hungary may be next as they too share the border with Ukraine. The more cynical part of me thinks maybe he just backs Poland up because they are in the EU and Ukraine is not.

@Natsku what signs are you seeing of the reported Kremlin attempts to threaten Finland?

Not much at all. Someone has commented in the news that its just the same old crap the Kremlin has spewed before and its important to neither overreact or laugh it off. Someone else has said that the Kremlin might be concerned that the average Russian views Finland too positively still, so these threats are a way to make them view Finland less positively.
But it hasn't even made it into the English language news, or the main news site, just the smaller news companies.

Not sure what the reason behind that is but if the Russians are throwing 10-20 plus drones/missiles a day at Ukraine, but Lockheed Martin can only produce maybe three Patriot rounds a day (that's a typical open source figure), and the figures will be similar for stuff like AMRAAM the west has a drone problem....

Doesn't help that some of that is based in truth, that Russians are discriminated against somewhat here (especially in regards to buying property, but that is for good reason, as Russia loves to buy up property near military bases and key infrastructure) and of course Finland does have historical ties to the Nazis, but so does bloody Russia.

I am very glad Finland is in NATO now, it makes things feel much more secure.

regardless of that, even if it came to that, it’s not as simple as just crossing the frozen frontline to the side you would align with. Where would these people go? Zelensky on Twitter:

Since 1 a.m. our military tracked the movement of Russian drones toward the Polish border. And this movement was not an accident or a mistake – it was deliberate. The Russians used both Ukrainian and Belarusian territory to enter Polish airspace. Almost two dozen drones entered Poland, and it seems that less than half of the total number came from the Ukrainian side.

This was a calculated Russian activity.

And we all saw the result – how difficult it was to counter. Ukraine offered Poland the necessary assistance in responding. No one can guarantee that there won’t be hundreds of drones if there are already dozens. Only united European forces can give real protection. We are ready to assist with technology, crew training, and the necessary intelligence.

We need to work on a joint air defense system and create an effective air shield over Europe. Ukraine has long proposed this, and we have concrete solutions. ]

We must respond together to all current challenges and be ready for potential threats to all Europeans in the future.
Likewise, we need to significantly increase joint funding for the production of interceptor drones. They have already proven their effectiveness.

I spoke with Polish PM Tusk, British PM Starmer, Italian PM Meloni and NATO Secretary General Rutte.
We need to work on a joint air defense system and create an effective air shield over Europe. Ukraine has been proposing this for a long time, there are concrete solutions.
We also need to jointly significantly increase funding for the production of interceptor drones.
I offered Poland our assistance, training and experience in shooting down Russian drones, in particular "Shaheds".
Donald (Tusk, of Poland) and I agreed on appropriate cooperation at the military level. We will also coordinate with all NATO member states.

United 24 Media:

🔹 President Trump has called for the death penalty for 34-year-old homeless man DeCarlos Brown Jr., suspected of murdering 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte.

🔸Violation of Poland’s sovereign airspace is a serious incident that could have far-reaching consequences. It is therefore essential to determine objectively whether this was a deliberate act or an accident, and under whose control the drones were operated, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said.

“I express my solidarity with Poland and offer cooperation in finding all necessary answers.
In the case of the violation of Polish airspace, I rely on information from relevant sources. I will not allow myself to be provoked by participants in political games or by anti-government and anti-Slovak media.
I receive information exclusively from relevant sources. At present, they allow me to take only the position I have outlined. If there is reason, I will amend or supplement it, while strictly adhering to the principles of international law.
The violation of Polish airspace, as well as the ability of the Polish armed forces to respond, exposes the Slovak opposition, which handed over the entire air defense system to Ukraine free of charge without adequate compensation. Instead of admitting their responsibility for this act of military sabotage against Slovakia, they make senseless statements in the media, proving only that they are capable of harming Slovakia.”
