Hello there, so I’m 44 and currently on holiday in the US.

I discovered a store called Cavender’s and seem to be in the process of buying everything in it. So far I have bought myself cowboy boots, I’ll add a pic; a saddle bag; Rockin C torn jeans; Wrangler western T shirts…think cowboy hats and rodeo horses on the front in creams and browns; a plaid shirt and I’m seriously debating a small brimmed cowboy hat. Obviously I wouldn’t wear all of this together.

I’m in pretty good shape; size 10 UK, tallish and still keep my hair long and get told I don’t look 44…but…is this going to be acceptable or look a bit odd? Am I going to look like a stylish western country girl…or like I’m having a midlife crisis. Perhaps I should abandon the hat idea?

I have 30 days returns and am here for another 12 days.

Thoughts appreciated!

I wouldn't care what anyone else thinks @WatermelonGatorJerky but I have definitely seem cowboy boots in the shops in UK and had assumed they were making a come back!

TheFlis · 10/08/2025 14:38

I have those exact boots, you can get Ariat at loads of places in the UK, their jeans are brilliant. I actually have 3 pairs of cowboy boots, one pair I have had for 25 years and worn regularly that whole time.

Pedallleur · 10/08/2025 14:42

It's a look that is popular in large parts of the US and/or at shows by eg Brothers Osbourne or Kenney Chesney. Doesn't look great on the high street in the UK.

I’m just going to post this here for you:

I love this guy he is a total inspiration to me. I started wearing dresses recently after reading a thread here, I never wore them before. I watched this guy and thought ‘he is right’ and I am wearing dresses now since. I’m so happy in them.

Wear whatever you like!!! People take things way too seriously, forget any ‘rules’ they change all the time anyway!

I love the cowgirl look anyway but would say to you, go for it, don’t hold back for anyone, and enjoy it!!

I'd love some Converse but I have got massively wide short feet so its a no go....I am in my 70's

Try the kids sizes. They’re wider than the adult ones with the bonus of being a lot cheaper. Converse also do a wide fit in some of their adult styles.

Is it any worse than when I freuqently seen men and boys in a football kit. I saw some poor small boy last night, maybe about 8 years old, had shoes, socks, shorts and tshirt, all with football logos on, to match as well (dont ask me which team)

Sorry what? Do you actually know any normal 8 year old boys? Wearing the strip of their favourite club is what makes them happy. A grown woman sneering isn’t likely to put them off.

PixelatedLunchbox · 12/08/2025 05:39

Life is short. If this brings you joy, go for it. The country scene is growing in the UK!

Go for it.
I used to have some blonde leather ‘cowboy boots’ when I was a teenager late 70’s, they were great with all sorts including the ‘gypsy’ skirts of that era. Happy days! I’d like to get another pair if I could find some to fit my feet and calves as I don’t have anything I like to wear with dresses and skirts except sandals.

Broad brimmed hats are a very good idea in sunny weather, I could do with one with a bit more weight for when it’s windy. Maybe not ‘cowboy’ but some sort of leather.

Strawberrysummer25 · 14/08/2025 09:27

I wear my cowboy boots lots and get lots of compliments, I love them. My sunhat is a cowboy hat too which I love, have not worn them together.
For those saying it's dated, it's not it is classic. I'm older than you and wore a cowboy hat and coat in my teens , and then went back cowboy in my 40's and continued..

Matilda1981 · 14/08/2025 09:29

My Ariat cowboy boots are my most worn item and I’m 43! Wear them with dresses, jeans, shorts - summer and winter (obviously not in a heat wave tho 🤣)

LimoncelloSpritzplease · 14/08/2025 09:39

You have the legs go for it.

A work colleague has just said her twentysomething daughter has just packed two pairs of cowboy boots (a brown pair and a black pair) for a holiday to Spain in this heat I am melting in sandals in the UK lol.

Kat Farmer Does my bum look big and Emily Jane Johnston on instagram both rock cowboy boots.

Personally, I am not a lover of plaid shirts as I am older than you and wore them in the 80’s but get the rest.

How I picture myself styling my new clothes.

Love it.

user946372 · 14/08/2025 10:11

Most towns in the UK have an eccentric local who is known on sight by everyone. It appears that you are now on the precipice of starting down the local eccentric route, and I 100% back this!

Everyone loves an origin story. If you start out small now, by age 60 you could be your town's "Calamity Jane". Embrace your mythical status when the time comes, most people never achieve notoriety for something positive.

Also, the boots are 🔥 as the kids say!

No, he lived in Calgary, Alberta.

Is anyone here old enough to remember R Soles on the Kings Road because I still have 4 pairs of their boots!

So, I'm from a place where people wear cowboy hats for real ( now live in the uk).

Recents went to the Zach Bryan Hyde park concert and there were scads and scads of people wearing cowboy hats/ boots in a non- dress up way. All ages too, but loads of young ones. The whole lineup was pretty country music oriented, and the crowd was quite young
These people live among us.

I love Zach Bryan.😍

OP, Cowboy boots are fairly mainstream now. There are lots of T-shirts in high street shops with Nashville/cowboy references, Morgan Wallen T-shirts flew off the shelves at Primark etc. Go for it.

Just don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys...

I'd absolutely wear the boots and jeans.

Great song. 😊

Dippythedino · 18/08/2025 03:16

I'm in London and have seen cowboy boots worn with floral dresses as an alternative to trainers in the spring, autumn and winter. I think it's a really edgy look which makes the outfit stand out.

Go for it and have fun combining the items with what you've already got.
